Walker on the bench?

Thu Aug 04, 2005 10:31 pm

You all know the Heat just got Antoine Walker,Jason Willams,And James
Posey.Pat Riley said in the miami herald ''He's a starter,'' Riley said of Walker, who signed a six-year, $53 million deal. ``It doesn't mean he's going to start here. Udonis is the starting power forward. [Walker has] got a multitude of skills, not just as a ball-handler but as a passer, a guy that can rebound. He knows he'll be on the court playing minutes. That's one thing we do here -- we play our money. The Herald Said that this would be the starting lineup:
C Shaq
PF Haslem
SF Posey
SG Wade
PG Willams

I Like that lineup but theres one problem where's Walker?
i think Walker Should start instead of Haslem.Haslem Has Done a great
job.But if you sign a very talented and keep on the bench then why would
you sign in the first place.Who would you rather have in your starting lineup Walker or Haslem?

ummm , i think that is smart because they can use walker as the sixth man off the bench. they need an energy guy off the bench who can come in and score . so i am thinkin that is a pretty smart move if it happens.

what a deal for the heat....

I don't mind seeing Haslem start either. Haslem does work the glass pretty well which causes Shaq to focus on the offense and he doesn't tire out chasing after rebounds.

I suppose they'll try and use Walker as a spark off the bench alongside Alonzo (if he's still with Miami.) So then you have Shaq & Haslem which is the offense/rebounding & then off the bench comes Walker with Alonzo which again is offense/rebonding/defense.

Not a bad idea, if Walker will fall for is another question all together. How old is Walker by the way? Perhaps he accepts the role in case he thinks he won't win a title ever again.

I thought it was going to be ...

C : O'Neal
PF: Haslem
SF: Walker
SG: Wade
PG: Williams

I don't see Walker playing SF, he's just not...capable enough in my eyes. I'd rather have Posey start at SF.

He was probably talking about his NCAA title.

I don't think Walker will be coming off the bench... It would probably be smarter, but if they are going to keep Toine happy, he will have to start. Fielding Shaq, Haslem and Walker the same time would make up for a pretty decent Zone-defense defense.

I don't think Walker will be settling for a bench role... This will be a problem next season... Posey will probably be subbing for Walker, Williams and Wade... So he will be playing 30 minutes a night from the bench. Anyway... The guy coming off the bench will be competing for the sixth man award.

I still think Posey will come off the bench no matter how much smarter it would be for him to start.

I think it should be:

C- Shaq
PF- Walker
SF- Posey
SG- Wade
PG- J-Will

That's a team right there^. 8-)

Same reason you don't start Jerry Stackhouse.

I think something will go wrong with this team. Chemistry issues, most likely. They are STACKED. Too many stars, not enough role players.

In the East, I really like Indiana actually. They bring back O'Neal, Tinsley, Artest. Also got Jasekevicius and Granger. Jeff Foster and Dale Davis are underrated.

Walker is 28 by the way.

First off,I don't see him playing SF ,because he's an awfully streaky 3pt shooter which would only hurt in the long run. This being said Walker knew he wouldn't be a star since there are already a handful available on this team, thus he seems to have accepted his role off the bench by agreeing to that sign-and-trade deal the Heat pulled off.

I wouldn't really mind if he started, but that's the coaches job to decide.

yeh right

let him speak for himself

I meant he won't get a chance again to win a title. I guess I formulated it quite fucked up.

Point was that this could be his shot to win a title. Might not happen in the future, don't get your panties in a bunch and just look at the line in my sig. :proud:

I see him as a 6th man backing up both Haslem AND Williams. Walker+Wade can run the point when williams is out.

Are you serious? Freakin fat-ass brick chucker won't play the point, NOT for the HEAT, that would be just embarassing...

As Jackie said,

So Walker would come out of the bench to fill for Udonis. (Y)

Sound plan in principle, but in practice it will require Walker to embrace the role to be truly successful. It wouldn't surprise me to see Van Gundy experiment with Walker starting and coming off the bench to find out how he can be best utilised and which rotation will work best for the team.

Sat Aug 06, 2005 7:34 pm

I think he's better a starter because he has more variety than Haslem.

Sat Aug 06, 2005 7:48 pm

But the point is to make it easier for Shaq. If Walker doesn't chase boards, it'll be left for Shaq to do that. That's why Haslem is so valuable, he does the dirty work.

Sat Aug 06, 2005 7:50 pm

Since Walker has never won the sixth man of the year award, he might take that chance. But hey, why should he? He did not came here just to win the sixth man award. Walker want to win his first NBA title. He will start at PF and Halsem will come off the bench. It may be the other way round but we will see once the season begins. Walker sometimes may play other positions as well. He is a nice addition to the Heat after all because he can play 5 positions.

Sat Aug 06, 2005 7:50 pm

First of all, Riley said he is going to get minutes so whether he gets 30 mins starting or coming off the bench it dont matter.
Secondly, Walker would only do the Heat no good, unless he plays different to what he has his past...whole career, he takes bad shots and makes bad decisions and that cant happen when you have players like Shaq and Wade on your team.
Haslem doesnt care whether he scores 4 or 20 as long as he plays and gets the team going.

So id rather start Haslem and if I was Riley I would trade Walker for a bench player or two who dont mind coming off the bench and not scoring much.

Which players would you like to trade for Walker?

Sat Aug 06, 2005 8:06 pm

Pretty much any role player.....somebody like New Orleans for Dickau and someone else or something...
Walker is a ballhog...Miami dont need him

Kemp40 wrote:He is a nice addition to the Heat after all because he can play 5 positions.

Hehehe Lol, 5 positions, id love to see him go up against Iverson or Shaq....

Sat Aug 06, 2005 8:12 pm

Hey Walker would not face Shaq because he is a Heat.

Sat Aug 06, 2005 8:17 pm

Dont be a retard man, you know what I mean.... :shake:

Walker can play 2 positions and only just...hes too slow for SF let alone a SG and PG, and hes not big enough for a C barely a PF.
If there were 6 players on a starting 5 then he would be the Power-small Forward but there aint.
