Three-Team Blockbuster Nearing Completion, Watson Added To The Mix

2nd August, 2005 - 6:03 pm

RealGM - The Miami Heat , Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics have reached a tentative agreement on a three-team trade according to an NBA source close to the negotiations who spoke with DraftExpress.com’s Jonathan Givony.

The Miami Heat will receive Antoine Walker via a sign-and-trade from Boston, as well as Jason Williams and James Posey from the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies will receive Eddie Jones from Miami and Marcus Banks from Boston.

The Celtics will receive Earl Watson via a sign-and-trade from Memphis, as well as Dorrell Wright or Miami’s trade exception.

Watson’s inclusion in the trade is a new twist to the deal, satisfying their need for a starting point guard. He will reportedly receive the mid level exception.

Now this trade seems more realistic.

Actually the deal still doesn't make sense. Why would Memphis get Marcus Banks in the deal if they suppose to end up signing Stoudamire?

To back up Stoudamire if Jackson goes down? Maybe use Jackson as a undersized SG (Jackson is in no way a true point anyhow)?

Naw because the Grizzlies have Burks as the 3rd string guard and there is no way Jackson will be a backup SG off the bench with all the depth Memphis has at the SG spot.

FSN to report within minutes.

J-Will deal nearly done

Complicated transaction expected to send guard to Miami

Point guard Jason Williams resides in Orlando during the offseason.

He won’t have far to travel when NBA training camps begin in October.

The Grizzlies are among the teams in a five-team deal that would send Williams, James Posey and Andre Emmett to the Miami Heat for swingman Eddie Jones, The Commercial Appeal has learned.

With league approval and the completion of a sign-and-trade deal that will ship Antoine Walker from Boston to Miami, the complicated transaction could be announced as soon as Wednesday morning, several NBA sources confirmed.

Boston, Utah and New Orleans are the other teams involved.

The breakdown is as follows:
# Memphis would receive Jones, who is scheduled to earn more than $30 million over the next two seasons.
# Miami would get Williams, Posey, Emmett and Walker.

# Utah would receive Greg Ostertag from Memphis, which acquired him – along with Bobby Jackson -- in a separate deal fro Bonzi Wells.

# New Orleans would get Utah’s Kirk Snyder and Miami’s Rasual Butler.

# Boston would receive Curtis Borchardt (Utah), Qyntel Woods (Miami -- and Carver High School in Memphis) and the Heat’s $1.9 million trade exception as well as draft picks.

The Griz are also expected to sign free-agent point guard Damon Stoudamire once the trade is completed. Stoudamire is expected to replace Williams in the starting lineup with Jackson serving as the backup.

In Jones, the Griz would receive someone who will strengthen their shooting guard and small forward positions.
Jones, an 11-year veteran, was the Heat's third-leading scorer last season and best perimeter defender.

The deal would end Williams’s tumultuous, sometimes exciting, stint in Memphis.

Williams departs with a reputation as a talented but troubled player. He eventually feuded with coaches Sidney Lowe, Hubie Brown and Mike Fratello.

Teammates, coaches and executives tired of his antics and his poor fourth-quarter performances.

Posey leaves just two seasons after signing a four-year deal with the Grizzlies. He followed a career year in which he helped the franchise win 50 games and earn its first playoff berth with an injury-riddled, uninspiring season.

Williams and Posey won’t have to wait long to face their former team.

The NBA regular season schedule isn’t expected to be released until later this month. But sources said the Heat and Grizzlies will meet on opening night in FedExForum.

Memphis and Miami also will meet during the preseason in San Juan.

Heat get Fatione!!!!!!!

Sweeeeeeet

JWill will turn the ball over, Shaq will put up the worst numbers of his career because of age, Fatione will suck like he always has.

I smell this past years Denver Nuggets in the Heat. A team with a ton of talent that ends up nowhere near where they look like they should on paper.

I'd put the Heat next to SA for next year. Pacers and Detroit a step behind.

If Shaq makes Toine into Good Toine, Heat for the title.

Maybe a security in case Stoudamire decides to sign with Houston?

After all I'm more enthusiastic about J-Will and Posey than Walker after all the bad feedback he's gotten lately. (Haven't paid much attention to him in the past, except when he stepped up in playoffs for Boston)

Wed Aug 03, 2005 9:03 am

The other thing I don't get about this trade is why the hell Memphis is doing it.

They are getting robbed.

Wed Aug 03, 2005 9:04 am

fuck that heat/ memphis trade i hope they reneg on it

Wed Aug 03, 2005 9:24 am

Ye, he was just acquired.

Man, if James Posey leaves Memphis, that's going to suck. Dahntay Jones and Posey are the main reason why I like the Grizz. (N)

Wed Aug 03, 2005 9:44 am

Hehe, Shaq's worst numbers > any other Center's numbers. That's just how sad the league is.

Watch Antoine have a good season playing a long side Shaq. The NBA just got a tad more interesting. :)

Wise words Sir Habbakuk. :)

I don't really like the "Toine in Miami" idea, but if he is capable of diminishing his attempts and play good D, we definitely have a shot at the title.

Wed Aug 03, 2005 9:54 am

I think this is a great move for the heat. Now we need to re-sign Damon Jones for his "trey" value.

Would twoine play the three or would he come off the bench like in Dallas?

C Shaq
F Haslem / Twoine
F Posey
G Wade
G J Will

Wed Aug 03, 2005 9:57 am

I'd see him starting ahead of Haslem, personally.

Jackal wrote:Hehe, Shaq's worst numbers > any other Center's numbers. That's just how sad the league is.

no. it says there is a lack of quality centers in the league and that shaq can play on a high level

and tim duncan had an off year himself/was injured and he arguably had better numbers

Wed Aug 03, 2005 10:06 am

Probably starting instead of Haslem, then depending on the Good/Bad 'Toine development he might be put on the bench.

But playing him at the three would be suicide.

Wed Aug 03, 2005 10:11 am

I disagree. Haslem earned that spot and signed for less money. They will need to keep him happy.
