Contract questions

How come they don't let you restructure player's contract in the NBA. If I'm not mistaken that is allowed in the NFL. I'm aware they're different league with different policies and regulations. But I think, if in the near future the NBA could come into an agreement allowing contract restructuring that would make the players to really play hard to earn their money. They are too many overpaid players in the Nba... Adonal Foyle, the C from Dallas last season I said C because I even forgot his name because he's ain't that good and you know it, and others.

And just to re-emphasize my point i think the implemention of this would make players play ball harder and more efficiently. Here in the outside, employees get fired when they messed up, but in the NBA they can't fire out well they can waive you, trade you and stuff but you're still getting the same salary until it expires of course.

Any input on this would be appreciated.

as you said, this is the policy of the nba. In a way it will be good, but i union would disagree with you. The bottom line is the players sign a contract, and a contract is a contract. You can't just blame the overpaid players, and the fault for overpaying also lies on the owners/GMs. If a player does not live up to the expectations, then some of the blame must be put on the coaching stuff/GM for not doing a good job scouting. Of course there are other cases where the players just stop playing the game. They just sit on the bench and enjoy their millions. It'll be a good idea to change the max contract year to 3 to 4 years. Just my thoughts....

I belive you were referring to Erick Dampier from Dallas...

But i believe there is too many 7 year deals thrown around...A guy has a bust out year and bang hes offered a huge 7 year deal. Who says hes going to keep going? Make them proove them selves before offering huge deals....

I feel the same way. No matter what job you're in, if you have the opportunity to make more money even if you haven't really earned it, nor do you have to work any harder...how many of us would decline?

The problem lies in the attitudes of the front office. Role players can snatch these big deals because in most cases if their current team isn't willing to pay up, some other team will. The last CBA somewhat restricted players from holding teams to ransom and it seems the new one will as well, but as long as there's a few GMs willing to overpay, there's always going to be players who will use that leverage to get more money than their talent and contributions command.
