Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think an enlarged heart is what killed Marc Vivien-Foe (sp?) on the field in a soccer game a few years back. It also killed a 14 year old who was playing rugby league in a local football comp in New South wales.

Poor guy

It sucks big time, and I hope he makes a full recovery

How long will he be sidelined for?
I always thought Turiaf was white from Jae's sig

I just found out.
He's got an enlarged aortic root.

Did the GMs know this before the draft? I was wondering why he was taken so late.
Hope he recovers.

He was always projected to be a 2nd rounder, so that wouldn't have had anything to do with it. Besides, even if they did know there's no way they would've let him play summer leagues.

He's got an enlarged aortic root.
That is eventually fatal for everyone, with athletes having increased cahnces of aortic rupture due to high heart strain.
Turiaf is probably lucky in his misfortune, because if he was not a basketball player, and not so thoroughly examined by Lakers doctors, the problem would still be unknown, he would have no correcting surgery and he would most likely die sometime in th efuture, without even knowing why.
So his luck/misfortune is really a matter of perspective.

So after surgery, is his chances of death significantly decreased, or is it still fatal even after the surgery?
Mon Jul 25, 2005 5:06 pm
huh.... Enlarged Heart? Doesn't that help you circulate blood easier, making you have more stamina? 'Cause I heard Lance Armstrong's training made his heart size increase (or was it capacity? meh.. not good with sciencey stuff..) and they said it helps his stamina or something.... so dunno..

Apparently it doesn't, since this seems to be an almost fatal thing.
