Marshall signs with the Cavs.

If the Sarunas news are true, that will make him pretty tough to beat.

Z/Varejao (I read it somewhere that they tend to play him at C, but I don't know the new coach will still do that)
Gooden/Marshall/Varejao
LBJ/Marshall/Luke Jackson
Larry Hughes/Newble/Pavlovic
Sarunas/Snow

Now, that's a legit top 4 team in the East.

Rumor in the Cavs' camp has it that Drew is going to get traded... :|

If all of them play to their potential, they'll be more than a Top 4 team in the East alone...

Marshall as in Donyell? I'm guessing Yes...

Would they trade gooden for a PG? :?

Can you post the news?

Sorry, I forgot to do it before.

(...)"Perhaps to force the situation to a conclusion, the Nets yesterday increased their courtship of Memphis free agent power forward Stromile Swift. But after the Nets received assurances from Abdur-Rahim that he wanted to play in New Jersey, Swift signed with Houston. The Nets' third power-forward option, Dontyell Marshall, agreed to terms with Cleveland."

Donyell is good....would help the team out a lot (Y) looking forward to Sarunas and Luke Jackson (Y) Cavs seem a lot more likeable with those guys, along with Varejao....

Finaly, a solid three point shooter in the Cavs.

Another source:
Word out of Cleveland is suggesting that Toronto Raptors free agent Donyell Marshall could be close to agreeing to terms on a contract with the Cavaliers. Marshall has been adamant about commanding the entire mid-level exception – between 4.8M and 5.2M – from any team wishing to retain his services. The Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Seattle Sonics and Chicago are all interested in the 6-9 forward. He is considered out of range for the Raptors who plan on dividing their exception between two, even three players.

The underrated Marshall has been a steady contributor over the course of his NBA career sporting averages of 12.4 PPG and 7.3 RPG over five teams. He is also a deadly long-range shooter and has averaged over forty percent from beyond the three-point line in each of the last four seasons. Last year with Toronto Marshall averaged 11.5 PPG and 6.6 RPG in just 25 minutes a night off the bench. If Marshall does join the Cavaliers he would be the latest addition in a solid off-season for the franchise. They managed to resign All-Star center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to a multi-year contract and snagged free agent guard Larry Hughes from the market for the long-term.

The move for Marshall might also negate the urgency to deal power forward Drew Gooden whose defensive deficiencies have put him on the trading block. With Marshall able to play defense against both power forwards and centers the Cavs could conceivably keep both and go with a frontcourt rotation that would also include 7-2 Lithuanian rookie Martyna Andriuskevicius. Of course, the flip side is that adding Marshall will hasten Gooden’s departure if he they think he can still eat up big minutes.

Cleveland looks good for next season.

Wed Jul 20, 2005 2:02 am

there's that primeter shooter they've looking for. i hope he becomes a starter. i don't really like gooden.

Why would Gooden start over Marshall?

The Cavs and the Bucks are really taking some big steps forward this post season.

Most likely they would trade him for a backup center, as they would have Varejao backing up 2 positions. He isn't really a center.

Wow, finally Donyell makes it to a decent team. (Y)

Hey! The Raptors are pretty decent :D Anyway, he used to play for Utah with Stockton and Malone, I believe.

I'm going to miss Marshall  The guy's a really impressive three point shooter that really stood out when he was with the Raptors. I hope the Raptors can compensate for this loss.

No offense Cy, but the Raptors right now, roster-wise are pretty lacking.

You gotta get used to it, you can't imagine the shit I got before the Lamar trade. But all of a sudden a big guy dropped from the sky! Maybe it wil happen to you too! :P

Marshall is much more versatile than Gooden and does provide scoring off the bench. He can be Cavs's 6th man. Gooden would lose too much of his productivity if coming off the bench.

I agree with Jona.. the roster looks pretty bad.. deffinately one of the worst rosters on paper in the NBA. They need a BIG change.. and I don't mean trading Eric Williams for a 4th round pick. I support the Raps but they just suck right now..

Oliver Miller in Canada!!! Hide the surplus food, lock the fridges!!!

Ahhh beautiful! A Oliver Miller joke! I LOVVEEEE it. If he was to drop from the sky it would look more like a Goodyear Blimp

Depending on where you're standing, it might resemble a solar eclipse as well. Especially if he brings along Tractor Traylor for the ride....

Wed Jul 20, 2005 10:13 am

Hehe, Toronto trades their whole roster for Steve Nash who is admanant on ending his carreer in Canada & demands Stoudemire come along for the ride so they can continue to be the cheap version of Stockton & Malone.

Hey, it's possible.

Yes... I know. I was only getting my hopes up

Wed Jul 20, 2005 11:23 am

Just what the Cavs needs, a good big man who has the ability to knock down the 3s. Cavs should be in the playoffs, 4th seed.

Wed Jul 20, 2005 12:09 pm

You know, I could almost see Cleveland starting Marshall with Gooden in the frontcourt and starting LeBron at PG to give him control of the game, maybe make the 6th man a PG and pull off either Hughes or Marshall to let LeBron man the 2 or 3 depending on where coach feels theyll get the most impact.

C Ilgauskas
PF Gooden
SF Marshall
SG Hughes
PG James

Tall, Big, Talented.
