Great move for Houston. Swift could easily fit into the 4 position, where he'll reach his potential. The Rockets could be contenders.
Your thoughts?

Wow, I certainly did not expect this.
I thought ATL or MEM were closer with negotiations than HOU.
Great move for HOU, as you said.

even more defense for their team... still-the spurs are the best texas team.
Tue Jul 19, 2005 11:12 am
Great move by the rockets...that's turning out to be a team with some serious potential.
Yao & Stro in the middle...damn.
Tue Jul 19, 2005 11:14 am
great pick up. this should push them into the second round now, we will see.
Tue Jul 19, 2005 11:21 am
It was a great pickup, I think it was a mistake by Memphis by not trying to hurry up and strike a deal with another team so Swift wouldn't leave without getting anything. The same thing is going to happen with Bonzi if they don't end up trading him by July 22nd. This will definitely make Swift rise since he will be starting in his natural position.

i agree...i hope Stro thrives, ive always liked him
Tue Jul 19, 2005 11:22 am

wow.. without giving up anybody?
Edit: I know he left through FA like Shaq with Orlando and T-Mac with Toronto, but it's damn nice for Houston to pick up a pretty good player to an already good team.

Free Agent.
Memphis doesn't want Stro, otherwise they would have signed a longer contract last year, they only signed him to 1 year. I believe they think he's injury-prone...and Stro would have a tough time getting minutes ahead of Gasol, and he can't switch to C being only 6' 9".

stro only took the MLE, good for him. he could've made a lot more elsewhere.

He didn't leave the same way, he was an unrestricted FA. When Shaq and Tmac left, their was no restricted free agency as the CBA at that time removed restricted free agency.
Stromile was restricted last year, but Memphis gave him his Qualyfying offer which he accepted, so he'd stay with them one more year, and then become an unrestricted FA this year.

Huh?
Luther Head is a guard and Swift is a PF
Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:04 pm
wow. memphis must be kicking themselves in the ass. they lose him for nothing and he leaves for a moderately cheap contract (rather ironic since the logo didn't want to give him a big contract in the 1st place last year)
i guess stro will just be dunking on yao only in practice now

Good Good! Howard benching now? Yay! They should have like a California Allstar against the Texas Allstars
Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:08 pm
Great great move for the rockets.
Ive been expectin this to happen, its been out there quite a while that Swift was interested in houston.
Now they just need a proper point.

Agreed.
Nice to see howard now benched
Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:32 pm
Will he be a starter in the Houston line-up?
Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:39 pm
of course, he's much better than Howard
Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:45 pm
hell yeah....oh i mean allelujiah!!!!!!!!
God bless Houston for this
i'm so happy i'm gonna party tonyt

Frontcourt of McGrady (6'8''), Swift (6'10'') and Yao (7'6'') looks pretty good to me

. I'm not so sure about their backcourt, though. At least McGrady won't have to guard Nowitzki anymore.
Tue Jul 19, 2005 6:19 pm
Don't forget that a healthy Juwan Howard is a 6th man candidate coming off the bench, and covering both for Yao's fould trouble and Swift alleged inconsistency. With T-Mac able to play the 4 on occasion as well, the new Rockets' frontline is very intimidating. If Mutombo plays for another year, they're going to have a party in th epaint, especially on defense...
Tue Jul 19, 2005 6:31 pm
who said mutombo's retiring? the guy is only 29 years old [in african elephant years that is

]
what concerns me the most is our point guard spot....even though we breathe a little sunshine after Lue left we still have a lot to do because Bobby S. has only Charlie W as a legitimate point guard...no james is a points guard okay? no arguments there
Tue Jul 19, 2005 6:37 pm
i think Juwan could be an option at SF, he played SF with Webber in Washington, depends what offence houston runs, but its certainly opened up more options for them.
