DETROIT (Reuters) - Rap superstar Eminem plans to make his last solo performance in Ireland in September, the Detroit Free Press, his hometown newspaper, said on Friday.

Citing sources close to the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, the daily also said his current album "Encore" would probably be his last as he moves to full-time work as a record producer.

The final solo appearance of Mathers, the best-selling hip-hop artist ever, would be at a concert in Dublin, Ireland, on September 17, the Free Press said.

The newspaper quoted his manager, Paul Rosenberg, as saying no official decision had been made about the future of the Grammy and Oscar-winning artist who has recorded three top-10 albums.

But Rosenberg said Mathers' current multi-platinum album was "certainly the cap on this part of his career."

Mathers' spokesman at Interscope Records in Los Angeles could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Free Press said the rapper, who has sold more than $1 billion worth of records, has grown weary of the media spotlight and may be musically spent.

"Marshall feels he's said everything he can say as Eminem," one insider was quoted as saying. "The idea that he intended this ("Encore") to be his last record is something that everyone on the inside circle has known for a while."

Another source said "Encore," which was released last year, had been an especially difficult record for the artist to make. "Marshall really struggles to write for himself now, to speak through the voice of Eminem," the source said.

"He knows as well as anybody that there comes a point where you risk beating this thing to death."

The cover shot on "Encore" shows Mathers taking a bow, and its closing song is entitled "Curtains Down."

In the album's liner notes, and in his current concert tour, Mathers has also played up the figurative death of Eminem.

"This is how you go out with a bang, baby," Mathers says in one video," after pulling the trigger of a pistol that misfires on himself.

Finally, 12 year olds are going to have to find another idol.

If it's true, then good riddance.

Mon Jul 18, 2005 3:28 am

Wow. I guess he's destined to become poor man's Jay-Z.

Finally, I've been waiting for this day for a long time.

Eminem was my favorite artist for a long long time. When I was in 8th grade I loved him. He's a great hip hop artist and he was someone I used to help me vent through tough times.

More senseless hate for an extremely talented artist...

Mon Jul 18, 2005 3:51 am

He could really wrap the media around his fingers, and that's one of the biggest reasons why he became so successful, but he is definitely talented. Well, it's good to see him retire, because I thought he was goofing off when I heard his new song (Shake That Ass or something?) which just seemed like he's tired of doing what he does.

Mon Jul 18, 2005 3:56 am

That song was Ass Like That...I hate that song...

that being siad, Eminem had real talent which was unfortunately put to waste sometimes with songs like Ass Like That or Just Lose It. There were flashes of his potential with songs like Stan and Till I collapse, two of my favorite songs. Anyway, I do think it's his time to give it up.

His first two major release CD's were awesome, Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP... unfortunately it went HUGELY downhill from there.

I agree that it went hugely downhill, but it definitley didn't go so downhill that it sucked. I thought Eminem show and Encore were 2 albums that were still better then most mainstream rap, if not all of it. Yes, it could not compare with the first two, but still good.

The Eminem Show was alright, it wasn't really too bad but I thought Encore was a car wreck.

What the fuck are you talking about :?:

Mon Jul 18, 2005 5:14 am

She also has a song called "Crazy In Love", I think.
At least in the chorus she says those words.

Yup. This is the fuck I was talking about.

Mon Jul 18, 2005 5:27 am

1. What does Beyonce have to do with Eminem?
2. Since when did she turned out to rapper?
3. Since when was it even possible for Beyonce to turn out to a gangster

Bonus
4. She has a greeeeat body :o

Filip wrote:She has a greeeeat body :o

...and that's just about as much as you need to know .

It's just that Beyonce did a song with the same titles as Eminem's. Plus, the thread is about rap (<-Eminem), so joked (joke is a yellow fluffy thing that cripples babies. Just like God.) that Beyonce turned gangsta. It still doesn't make any sense, but it should do it for now.

bah, everyone in the music buisness "retires". the problem is none of them ever stay retired. hell man how many times have the rolling stones retired? gotta be in the tripple digits by now.

the final retirement will probably be when Keith Richards passes away of old age on stage. Although I have a feeling that the first old horse to go on stage will be the always-in-motion Angus Young.

Why does everyone think he is actually talented? I wish I could write rap's about killing my mother and the mother of my kid (if i have kids  ), and also complain about fans asking for autographs...

Yep this guy sure was talented. His biggest fan base is 12-15 year old. Such an intelligent audience there.

Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:51 am

So you can rap like him?? (Y)

:cussing:

Those songs were the waste of talent I was talking about. IMO his best song is Till I Collapse.

Mon Jul 18, 2005 4:59 pm

I think he is talented, but his music started to sound like shit when he became serious. White guys being serious when doing hiphop music doesn't work IMHO.
