he had a good, long carreer... and is the pioneer for bringing Euro players to the NBA. Good luck Vlade.

IMO, Vlade had just as much talent (or maybe SKILL is the word) as any of the top centers of the '90s, just not the athletic ability. But he had a jumper, was a great passer, was a pretty good defender & rebounder. Overall, a really savvy player & it fun to watch him run with the Kings.

lol, I wouldn't call Vlade savvy. He's not really a James Bond type.

And an artist's interpretation.

A top 10 centre during most of his time in the league, and as Dweaver said another player that helped create opportunities for talented players in Europe to make the jump to the NBA. He was indeed a versatile player and one of the best passing centres in recent times, though as a flopper he's nowhere near Rodman in terms of making it believable.

Vlade finally retiring, like Dweaver said, he brought a lot of euros to the NBA

:applaud:

Best of luck to him, hopefully he can get a coaching post in the league.

He is the flop master and did play for the Queens and Lakers but he never had attitude issues to a great extent so he was alright in my book.

Yup hes definitely a pioneer in bringing europe and the association together.

One of the best European players ever played in NBA. I loved those days in Sacramento. Too bad that he didn't won the Finals though. Anyway, he said he'll be a Lakers assistant coach, helping young players and stuff. *cough*unlettered Bynum*cough*...

Do you think Vlade knows how to spell better than Bynum.. :?

I'm guessing Yes.

Has he ever gotten into a fight? :)

No surprise there. Good luck to him, and he better lay off those cigs. I loved watching him play with the Kings, and his passing was smooth. Best of luck to him in his future.

I remember him in a brawl with Karl Malone in soem USA-Yugoaslavia game, I think it was in 2000. The Mailman gave him one shove and Vlade almost wound up in the bleachers...

I'll never forget footage I saw of him smoking in the GREEN ROOM WAITING TO BE DRAFTED. Legend has it that the devious Jerry West, wanting him to drop late in th efirst round right into the Lakers' lap, advised him to keep smoking when he saw him exit the airplane he arrived in with an already lit smokey...

Gotta love Jerry West, no?  (Y)

Sat Jul 16, 2005 11:45 am

No way. (N)

I remember an incident at the Atlanta Games in 1996, where they got tangled up going for a reboun and had a bit of a shoving match. Is that the one you're thinking of?

Thankyou for the memories Divac! :applaud:

Vlade Divac: Retirement reports inaccurate

01:46 PM PDT on Friday, July 15, 2005

Lakers center Vlade Divac said late Thursday night that an Internet report about his imminent retirement was inaccurate.

Divac, speaking by phone, said he will wait to hear from Lakers management about what the team plans to do with him for next season before he makes a decision to return for a 17th season. He said his health would also play a role in his decision.

He had surgery last December for a herniated disc in his lower back that kept him out until early April and limited him to just 15 games last season.

"First, I have to wait to see if the Lakers want me," Divac said. "If they don't want me back, then I have to think about my future, about retiring. But I make no decision right now. I have been working out and my back is OK sometimes. My back has to be healthy. There is no rush. We'll see. But I would love to play again and play for (Lakers coach) Phil Jackson if all things can be worked out."

VanK is right, he didn't say he's retiring. He denied those stories and said that he will make a final decision on 30 Sept.

LOL  Hopefully he'll do good on the team (Y) :P
