Marbury being shopped around the league

Postby Full Surface on Thu Jul 07, 2005 2:28 pm

According to ESPN's Chad Ford (relayed by Real GM, which makes it sound like fotter), Isiah Thomas is HEAVILY shopping Stephon Marbury around the league, or to anyone who will listen. His large contract (4 years left) will be tough to move but supposedly, both Atlanta and Philly have talked with Isiah about a possible deal.

Let's face it. Marbury is just a team killer and an underachiever in the places he's played.

Minnesota
New Jersey
Phoenix
New York

Everytime he leaves a team, that team become surprisingly better the year after.

heh, id laugh if the Knicks sent him back to Minnesota for like Cassell and Scerbiak....

Otherwise i could see him going to Memphis for L Wright, B Well and J Williams.....

Could Denver consider giving up Andre Miller and ridding themselves of Kenyon to get Marbury and maybe Sweetney?

I think Marbury could be great if he dropped the ego and just played a more traditional PG role.....

The other rumour in Denver is they want Cuttino Mobley, imagine if both moves happened....

Camby
Nene / Sweetney
Melo
Cuttino
Marbury

That team would rock the house ;p

..and he needs to be surrounded by a real team, instead of a CBA squad. That's what the Knicks are these days.

It takes a team to win in the NBA. One player cannot do it alone, despite what many people think. Marbury has yet to be on a great team.

Minnesota-When he left Minnesota we had a growing Kevin Garnett. Of course we were going to get better, Garnett was growing up and getting better and better.

New Jersey-They were injury-prone that year and Marbury did not have Marbury or Jefferson to work with.

Phoenix-He actually led them to the playoffs but he was shipped to New York for cap relief. The Suns used the cap relief to get Nash and Q and Amare, Marion, and Joe Johnson got better and better as they gained more experience.

New York-Medicore talent with a lack of big men. Not really anything anyone can do on this team.

Please note, this is coming from a Marbury-hater. I hate Marbury, but not because he can't win and is a loser but because he left us (Minnesota) in heartbeat.

You mean Martin and Jefferson?
I think it would be nice to see the KG + Marbury tandem again, they were both young players trying to be the main guy, so thats why it didn't really workout, but during that time they were together, there were heaps of sick alley dunks from marbs to KG, and since he left, I don't think I remember seeing any alley's for KG.

I wish you would get rid of that gay sid and avatar Riot

On a Grizzlies report, they were talking about since the Knicks want Swift so much maybe the Grizzlies could do a deal with Jwill and Swift for Marbury. I don't know how well the deal would work out, but at least we would be getting something for Swift other than just losing him.

In my opinion Marbury's been in some unfortunate situations that have contributed to his reputation. That said, he does need to prove he can be an integral part of a perennial winner to truly shake the label. I don't think it's fair to call him a team cancer but at the same time he's yet to truly carry a team.

I like Marbury, I think he's pretty unfairly judged by people... I mean his head is kinda swollen (literally and figuratively) but he is a very good player all the same.

I'd love to see Starbury on Philly with AI, I don't know how good the team would play, but the games would sure be fun to watch. Not to mention the potential of a locker-room blowout! Woo Hoo!!

I remember an All-Star game way back, the back-court of AI and Starbury almost brought the East back into it by draining 3's. Would be a killer combo on the streets, but in the NBA it would be interesting.

I hope he gets traded, but we definately need to get a solid PG in return (+some more players), I don't want Crawford playing the 1 and Nate Robinson is more of a combo guard and he needs to learn a lot.
On the other hand, I also want to have Marbury in New York, would feel for him when he would be traded away from his hometown. Maybe he can prove he's a winner by taking the Knicks to the playoffs.
Also, he wasn't too bad when he was with Phoenix, Amare and Marion weren't as good as they are now but they still made the playoffs and gave the Spurs a hard time.

Not almost, they brought the East back from like 21 points down and AI got the MVP. I think that was 2001.

If it's the 2001 game you're thinking of, they succeeded. The East won that year behind the play of Iverson and Marbury.

July 7, 2005

Thomas Denies the Knicks Are Shopping Marbury
By HOWARD BECK

LAS VEGAS, July 6 - Isiah Thomas's tone was sharp and his stare icy Wednesday as he angrily denied reports that he might trade Stephon Marbury, the Knicks' star guard.

Thomas, the team president, was frequently profane in his first public comments on the speculation surrounding Marbury, which began with an article in The New York Times on Saturday. A Western Conference team executive and a player agent had independently said that Marbury was being made available by the Knicks.

Similar reports have since surfaced in other news media outlets, all citing unnamed team executives around the league.

"That is so far from the truth," Thomas said testily, a few minutes after the Knicks played their first summer league game here. "And I'm ashamed for you guys that you even have to ask me that, because there is absolutely no truth to it at all."

as long as marbury didnt end up in boston i am happy. i dont care if the celtics only had to offer up a second round pick in the year 2087 its not worth it. infact they would be getting robbed. marbury is a damn cancer to anyone he plays for and i dont need a bum like that in boston.
