Unanswered Questions About 'War Of The Worlds' *SPOILERS*

Sun Jul 03, 2005 12:48 am

I saw War Of The Worlds last night, and maybe someone that understood it better than me can explain some stuff to me.

*WARNING, SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE*
1. What were the red vine looking things now?
2. Why were the aliens attacking us? just because they burried their machines here millions of years ago?
3. Why were the aliens away to walk around in a wet, damp basement looking around for humans, but when one sticks its head out of the machine at the end, he dies?
4. So the machine captures people, then sprays their blood around the atmosphere?
5. How the hell did that kid not die when he wanted to see the huge battle between the machines and the US Army?! The whole place was lit up!
6. Ok... why did the machines shields go down all of a sudden at the end?
7. How did Tom Cruise manage to find the only van that wasnt effected by the 'Lightning' in the begining of the movie with?

Those questions were just bothering me, and if someone could explain it to me you would be a real help

most of the things didn't really make sense. kinda illogical to me...especially the ending

and I didn't really read all of your questions but I think the answer to number seven is that that was the car that the mechanic guy was trying to fix. and remember when tom cruise passed by the mechanic guy and he suggested a solution. It worked. That's why when he tried to jack the car, the mechanic was talking about he it worked and stuff to tom cruise

The book, and original were 2 of the most horrible things I have ever seen/read. My friend saw the new one and said it was even worse.

War of the Worlds has by far the worst ending in movie history.

ah... ok that makes sence, thanks Null17

And yeah the ending did kinda suck.

And Am I the only person that made these conenctions?...
-The WotW machines=The Half-Life2 'Strider'?
-The 'Crazy Guy' in WotW That Lets Tom Cruise Stay In His Basement=Father Gregori From Half-Life2
-The Weapon On The Machines In WotW=The Energy Swords In Halo2?

I probally am

All of my friends who's seen or played HL2 definitely said that. that's why I kinda hated it. The ships kinda turned me off. They looked so 'primitive' I mean the close up of the lights looked like they were headlights of cars

Maybe the Half-Life2 artists used a description in the WotW book to create the Striders? Same with the Lord of the Rings novels and Warcraft.
Or the WotW graphics artists copied it from Half-Life2 just like that creature in the coliseum of Star-Wars Episode2 that looked like a Hydralisk from Starcraft.

The aliens came to harvest on human blood and the machines died of bacteria... which still doesn't make sense because wouldn't they have thought of that if they planned it for a million years?

Mon Jul 04, 2005 12:47 am

Maybe they needed another million years to realize that

I thought it was an alright movie. I got entertained for an hour and whatever minutes.

I don't have complaints since I hadn't set my hopes up too high for this one. Two things I can say that annoyed me is the constant screaming of that little whore from Hide & Seek. The second one was the son, that faggot gave his dad a whole lecture about running off & leaving them behind and what not but he was the first that ran off to mommy's house. Little bitch.

Oh, the fact that I didn't get to see Tom Cruise's car after the first 5 minutes also pissed me off. On another note, can I have his job? The one in the movie? Moving containers? Having that car, that house & still being able to pay for child support? Awesome. Oh, when he does have a chance to save money by cooking, he has his whore of a daughter order out. Another thing, what's with that little twat ordering green goo for food? Shit, kids these days, all fucked, whatever happened to a steak?!

Ehm, sorry, spoilers.

 haha.
Yeah, that was a kick ass car.
But that look on Cruises face when he found out what that stuff he was eating was, priceless :D

exactly what me and my friends were thinking. they were smart enough to plan all this shit and have all that technology. yet they didn't have protection against bacteria.

the machines weren't buried.. if you saw the part were the reporter where showing tom cruise videos they shot while there was lightning, you will see that the machines where riding the lighting to go underground to make it look like they where burried here long time ago.

Mon Jul 04, 2005 9:20 pm

No, that wasn't the case. I'm not too sure you got that whole sequence.

The machines were buried under the ground, the things that you saw in the lightning were the beings/creatures that were operating the machines. The machines weren't in the lightning.

Mon Jul 04, 2005 9:46 pm

machines were buried. the thing in the lightning were pilots as what jackal said...

Tue Jul 05, 2005 8:15 am

I thought that they died 'cause the polluted the air and shit...that was something a friend told me, I haven't seen the movie :P

basically all the bacteria and microscopic organisms killed them because they weren't immune to it yet, unlike humans are. have to admit, it's unique but kind of illogical

Tue Jul 05, 2005 7:58 pm

maybe the reason why they aren't immune to it is that maybe they never saw it coming.. lyk they never thought that something that microscopic could destroy them..

i actually liked the movie, except for the part that his son was still alive and Dakota Fanning was so annoying!! she kept screaming and screaming and screaming... hahahha :D and also, the effects on the people dying(turning into dust) was awesome! hahaha

Tue Jul 12, 2005 1:36 pm

here's my million dollar question:
about the stupid aliens, why would they harvest poeple and let other poeple be zap to dust...if you have crops all over the field would you not want to harvest them all. the idiots

Not if the "crops" were constantly shooting at you.

I actually didn't think the movie was all that bad. The ending sucked, yeah, but everything until then was pretty good.. special effects were nice. (Y)

2. Why were the aliens attacking us? just because they burried their machines here millions of years ago?

No, they were not attacking us because they buried machines here. They buried machines so they could attack when they wanted to.

3. Why were the aliens away to walk around in a wet, damp basement looking around for humans, but when one sticks its head out of the machine at the end, he dies?

The one at the end was already killed by the time it stuck its head out by the bacteria or whatever.

4. So the machine captures people, then sprays their blood around the atmosphere?

From what I understood, they used the blood as fuel for their machines. Don't really know about that tho.

6. Ok... why did the machines shields go down all of a sudden at the end?

Because the bacteria got into them :o

yet they planned everything for millions of years. seen what bacteria can do to humans and they didn't check it out? and they're supposed to be smarter than us

I Think my friend Kodo explains it best...

No offense but I think you missed the beginning and ending monologues by Morgan Freeman because some of these were answered by him. But here are some answers. :p

1. What were the red vine looking things now?
1. That was some plant they were growing and humans were the fertilizer... I think it was just something they wanted for their new planet...not sure on this.

2. Why were the aliens attacking us? just because they burried their machines here millions of years ago?
2. They were envious of our planet and also wanted to harvest us for their red plant.

3. Why were the aliens away to walk around in a wet, damp basement looking around for humans, but when one sticks its head out of the machine at the end, he dies?
3. Didn't you listen to Morgan Freeman at the end? He said that bacteria killed them. The aliens were killed by the common cold, so with any bacteria it takes time to kill. The ones in the basement were first breathing it in and the one in the machine at the end was already pretty much dead - he just happened to open the hatch right before he died.

4. So the machine captures people, then sprays their blood around the atmosphere?
4. Yeah pretty much. They were harvesting humans for fertilizer.

5. How the hell did that kid not die when he wanted to see the huge battle between the machines and the US Army?! The whole place was lit up!
5. Eh... this is Steven Spielberg making lame, happy hug endings. Here's my explanation - a machine picked him up in a cage and found its way to Boston, then the machine broke down cause the alien inside died so Robby escaped.

6. Ok... why did the machines shields go down all of a sudden at the end?
6. That was because the aliens were dying and the machines were losing their power.

7. How did Tom Cruise manage to find the only van that wasnt effected by the 'Lightning' in the begining of the movie with?
7. The mechanic changed out a part that was effected by the EMP so it worked again... that was the whole point of the scene with the mechanic.

Yeah

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS NO MATCH FOR NATURAL STUPIDITY

Wed Jul 13, 2005 12:49 pm

I'm still kind of confused on it...

In the end with the last tripod that died, Tom Cruise was like "LOOK AT THE BIRDS" and they showed the pigeons landing on the tripod and the tripod looked drunk. What did the birds do, crap on it and make it go blind?

The lightning strikes sent the pilots into the tripods. But why did lightning strike 'so many times in one spot' when throughout the movie I believe you only saw evidence of 1 pilot in these things?

Is the crazy man with the gun (that cruise beat to death) the same guy that was telling cruise to get out of the van earlier (and then got torched...?)

When Cruise put his hand up to the window (around the time he saw someone get thrown to the ground and stabbed by the tripod) did his hand start bleeding? If so, why?

Seriously though, that Andrew Bogut guy went off to fight the tripods or whatever, then all the military vehicles exploded!! Theres no way he could have survived!
