Have you ever seen him play? I've been going around various Laker forums and I can't find anyone who's seen more than just the McDonalds game.

I am not confident about Bynum, but as a Lakers fan I am hoping to hell that he becomes a good player and the opposite of bust.

Exactly and I can tell why you have that sig because Turiaf > Bynum (which is pretty sad). I'm actually REALLY glad the Knicks picked Frye and not Bynum.

Villanueva at 7. bad choice

Definitely Villanueva at 7. Laughable, although Bynum is also pretty bad.

Fri Jul 01, 2005 2:35 am

Bynum is the worst. (N)

We're talking Jerry Sloan here. He likes his players tailor-made, and if he said he wanted Deron, I trust his judgement. He's the Bill Bellicick(sp?) of the NBA, barring the rings. :P

lol of course he'll say he wanted deron. he's not going to pull a this year's jerry west lol

but was it worth the price? can you name any other prospect that a team traded 3 1st round picks for?

Exactly. he's a prospect, not a project. And don't kid yourself, Sloan is the big boss in Utah, no matter who the official GM is. Jerry made th epick, and I respect his basketball knowledge too much to criticize his pick now. Let him play a season or two, and then we'll know.

I too believe CP will turn out to be the better player in th elong run, but I agree that thick, defensive minded and blue-collar mentality Deron is more suited to Jazz' playing style.

Fri Jul 01, 2005 10:17 am

lol relax there buddy, i'm not questioning who's making the decisions in utah, rather the decision itself.

but speaking of his basketball knowledge in regards to draft picks, he isn't exaclty jerry west. outside of kirilenko, what was the his best pick?

humphries, snyder, mo williams & pavlovic (no longer with the team)??? stevenson? lol

anyway, i'm going to critcize all i want with good reason. memphis gave up an established player like abdur rahim to get gasol and williams is nowhere the talent either of those players are

Bynum at 10

Fri Jul 01, 2005 10:26 am

Hehe, I was under the assumption that a 4-time All-Defensive First-teamer and 2-time second teamer , who has been coaching a team for 17 straight years knows better than anyone else what kind of defensive PG that very team needs. When I say better than anyone else, that included both you and me. So let's at least give Jerry teh benefit of the doubt, shall we.

That said, feel free to criticize, I'm sure Jerry will not be insulted...

Bynum... How the heck will he get playing time???

Jax and Mitch sayin he is a project.. bet you they will trade him in 3 years... (N)
If they wanted a project, they should have taken Green!

Im not gonna hate on him till he gives me a reason to hate him. For now, as a fan im hoping for the best and not for the worst(Diop....Ugh!)

Bynum... How the heck will he get playing time???

By thanking Chris Mihm for sucking on road games. Vlade for even trying to walk and Brian Cook for jacking up treys.

If they wanted a project, they should have taken Green!

But we DO know how Felton plays, he's not a gamble, he doesn't have a huge upside, and he's 6' 0". He's gonna give up significant height to the smallest guys in the NBA: Parker 6' 2" Nash 6' 3" Hinrich 6' 3", and these are the small guys. People point out how Nash at 6' 3" with his quickness is a huge defensive liability, i can't imagine what they'll say about Felton.

What's he gonna do against the Kidds and Livingstons? They're gonna shoot over him like he's not there. Deron Williams stacking 2 fouls on him in the first 5 minutes of the title game is peanuts compared to what Baron Davis will do to him.

I smell nothing but a marketing pick, which is a real shame for a #5 pick. They could have grabbed him with any # of lower picks and still gotten a lot of great players.

I'm pretty sure he measured in at 6'1", but height's overrated anyways. Parker is 6'2" but you saw him struggle with Billups. Felton is pretty strong for his size and is already a good defender. Defense isn't all about size and length. Felton is excellent at pressuring the ball (he did the in almost every single game I watched). I really don't believe Felton would've lasted to 13. Toronto needed a point and the Lakers would've seriously considered him. Felton will be a good player. If there's one player's defense to criticize, it's Chris Paul. I love the kid and despite making the All-ACC Defensive team (because he had some 2.5 steals per game ), he is much weaker than Felton. His defense needs a lot of work, not Felton's. Anybody can pick up two cheap, easy fouls. You saw it happen to Chauncey Billups in Game 7 against a smaller Tony Parker. Felton's defense isn't on Jack's level, or even Deron Williams's level, but it's solid. Felton will be a solid pro with his vision, speed, improved shot.

I don't think Villanueva is such a bad pick, contrary to my initial reaction. There are not many frontcourts in the league that can take advantage of Bosh and Villanueva and there's Hoffa and Sow to guard the Shaq's and Curry's. Keep in mind, the Raptors played Bosh and Marshall together quite often. I think Bosh and Villanueva can cause lots of mismatches offensively. Charlie can play some 3 against some teams too.

I don't see a bad pick among those, per se, but I'm going to have to go with the McCants pick. I have no problem with the Lakers gambling with Bynum, the Magic adding a C/PF (although they failed to add a swingman in the 2nd round...), or the Clippers adding a project, etc., but I don't like the McCants pick. Sure, Sprewell is gone, but IMO, the Wolves should've replaced him with an all-around player, especially a good defender. They could've used Granger's versatility, athleticism, overall skills, or defense. Even Graham would've been a better pick. I'm not knocking McCants and he may step in and score 15 ppg immediately, but he's not the type of the player they need to reach the finals.

Yeah, Odom at the 4 adn Butler is suposedly supposed to play more at the 1. Plus, if he isn't adjusting at least Caron is still there to start at SF instead of him. I see it better than Bynum, at least Green's got a more difinite future!

Bulter at the 1 . Disaster awaits. Anyways, Jackson has already said he envisions Odom in a Pippen role, i.e., as a point forward. I think Odom will play more 3, his more natural position. Who will be the 4 then? Turiaf is the type of player Jackson loves - rugged, hustles for loose balls. Phil loves Luke Walton and will get him time somehow, and I think that'll be at the 4 (unfortunately).

That's exactly my point. I don't see how anyone (including myself) can be "high" on a high school kid no one knew about until 2 weeks before the draft. So he's tall and big, so was DeSanga Diop. I don't want him to turn out like that, but until he shows anything on the court (summer league I'm hoping) I'll continue to be disappointed with the pick.

Fri Jul 01, 2005 6:32 pm

Yeah, Odom at the 4

Phil wants Odom to play the 3..

Butler, a small forward, run the triangle as a point guard?

There's Caron, Odom, Luke, George and Jumaine Jones.

I see it better than Bynum, at least Green's got a more difinite future!

You can predict the future?
