Don't worry you guys will probably bounce back in the off-season. In my opinion drafting Bynum aint that bad and Von Wafer. I heard about this kid to and he is something special. Like ceekay said he was a HS All-American. But he'll be stuck behind Caron and Kobe.

Not, Kobe and Caron. Maybe Lamar Odom and Chris Mihm.

Not, Kobe and Caron. Maybe Brian Grant and Chris Mihm.

Naw am talking about Von Wafer.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 12:52 am

Oh, it was not clear.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 1:10 am

Yes it was, it was very clear.

and Von Wafer. I heard about this kid to and he is something special. Like ceekay said he was a HS All-American. But he'll be stuck behind Caron and Kobe.

But maybe he meant following: "In my opinion drafting Bynum and Von Wafer aint that bad". And when he starts the next sentence with he, it is not clear. I just thought he put the phrase "Von Wafer" at the wrong place. To make it clear, it would be better as follows: In my opinion drafting Bynum ain't that bad, and also Von Wafer: I heard about this kid [...].

I noticed that he wrote Von Waver, but from his sentence construction it, obviously, was not clear. His English just ain't clear, because in order to make people understand, he should rephrase that sentence. Just look at this:

Naw? WTF? Maybe now? And where's the personal pronoun?

No one's offending you, that sentence made no sense. If you even bothered to read the thread you would've made sense of it immediately since ceekay DID mention Wafer being a HS All American. Also "He'll be stuck behind Caron and Kobe"... he mentioned 2 players, Bynum and Wafer... you surely know Bynum is a 7 foot tall C, who else could he have possibly meant. Stop being an idiot.

Edit: So you removed the "Stop offending me".

But imagine someone didn't read the whole thread, like... me! Then it is not clear. Of course I understand that he was talking about Von Waver, because he has Kobe's or Caron's height, but just imagine somebody doesn't know that? Then it's also unclear. It's just the Grammar, man.

Edit: Yes.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 1:45 am

Yes the grammar is incorrect but it's still easy to understand. Besides, if you don't read the whole thread it's not really fair to say 'that wasn't clear" when if you did read the thread you would've got it.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 1:50 am

Yes, of course it's easy to understand. Problem solved, right?

I thought the Lakers had previously said they would make this pick...

Thu Jun 30, 2005 3:59 am

The Lakers first two picks were fine. They did the best that they could to solve their big man problems.

Had they picked a point guard, though, instead of Von Wafer, I would have said that they had one of the best drafts of the league. Von Wafer is undersized and egotistic. If they wanted the best player in the draft with attitude problems, they should have picked John Gilchrist. That would have been a steal. John Gilchrist was shat on by every second round team, but mostly the Lakers, who picked a player of around the same height, same college conference, and of the same things going for him -- first round talent but the attitude sucks. The thing is, Gilchrist can actually play point guard and would have easily been able to start over Chucky Atkins; plus, he at least wants to win.

Bynum and Turiaf :applaud:

Wafer
:scold:

Gerald Green would still be a fine pick, it's not like Kobe & Green are 6' 3" SGs, either can play SF and Kobe has the skills to play PG.

Let's remember if the Bulls decided not to trade up to get Scottie Pippen because they had Jordan, there'd be no championships in Chicago (considering that Pippen would be replaced by Olden Polynice).

Green isn't any more established than Bynum, both were not on the radar before the all the High School All-Star games like McDonald's. Green was just projected to go much higher, Bynum was thought to be mid-round, he went just a few picks ahead of where people thought.

I think it's fine, it's a gamble, all gamble's cannot and will not pay off. I just hope the Lakers and fans understand that, and not start bitching like Chicago fans did when Curry & Chandler didn't win a championship their rookie years.

That's a good point, but I don't think Gerald Green is the right guy to be a Scottie Pippen. I think if he doesn't end up being a bust, he'll be a superstar.

Maybe Green gets a chance at the Celtics' frontcourt, but I doubt it. Even Boston is not the right place for Green, Charlotte would be much better. He's gonna keep the bench warm for Paul Pierce and Tricky-D.

Frontcourt? Not really.

First of all, he's mostly a SG, and , secondly, he's too weak to play SF right now. Don't even think about spotting at PF,even for a few mins...

I said that I doubt it. Just read.

At ESPN.com he's listed as SF, at NBA.com as G/F, and to me he's also too big in order to play SG. Besides: The Celtics have Tony Allen and Tricky-D at SG. I know Green is just one inch higher than Tricky and a sharp shooter, but I don't think they'll use him as SG. He'll stand behind Pierce at SF. He's gonna drive to the basket and dunk over all who stand in his way. And I also never said that he'll play PF.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 8:23 pm

He's 6'7, usual height for a SG.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 8:54 pm

It's not only the height I was talking about, Jae. Let's have a look at the Celtics' PGs and SGs, besides Gerald Green:

#42 Tony Allen
#11 Marcus Banks
#12 Ricky Davis (he's listed F, but he plays SG; Pierce plays SF... but I can remember that Davis had G-F and Pierce F last season... correct me if I'm wrong)
#4 Ryan Gomes
#20 Gary Payton
#13 Delonte West

That's already enough to put him on SF. And Jae: I said he's too big to me, and he's listed 6'8", not 6'7". He's also a strong rebounder (12 RPG last season).

Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:08 pm

He measured at 6'7 in shoes at Chicago.

he's also too big in order to play SG

So if you don't mean height, what do you mean? He is quite skinny and will need to put on weight, and I'm sure Boston will find room in their rotation for him.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:15 pm

He's 6'8" here and also here.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:31 pm

Well it says here, where it matters, that he's only just 6'7 WITH shoes

Code:
Name               Height    Height (w/ shoes)
Green, Gerald     6' 6"      6' 7¼"

Thu Jun 30, 2005 10:35 pm

Since when do you decide where it matters and where not? I gave you two links, and you wanna tell me that the official NBA site does not give the correct information? But you are right that the link you gave is also official NBA material. So why don't they consider it matches everywhere?

Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:43 pm

Everyone knows the NBA boosts player heights. The best explanation I can come up with is that they did those site profiles before the measurements were taken and couldn't be stuffed fixing it.

Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:57 pm

Usually, the official NBA listed heights when the pre-season starts correspond exactly with the 'with shoes' combine measurements. So, in all probability, Green will be listed 6' 7" next year, unless he grows in the summer, which is not unlikely given his age of 19.
