I do agree it's tougher to apply statistics from other teams in history to Detroit, but you can apply Detroit's trends to Detroit, and SAS's trends to SAS.

Detroit: 32-9 (H) 22-19 (A)
Spurs: 38-2 (H) 21-20 (A)

SAS is almost 50-50 away, which is the realm of teams like Sacramento, Memphis, and Minnesota. They just aren't very good away. Detroit is a little better away but still not enough to be notable.

Good away teams are Seattle (26-15 / 26-15) and Phoenix (31-10 / 31-10), but for almost every other team Home Court Advantage is a real factor. Both teams are predicated on high-octane running offense and a lot of 3 pointers, very opposite both Detroit & SAS. Very little reason to apply trends from Seattle/Phoenix to either of these teams.

This doesn't mean Detroit is destined to lose, it just means it's an uphill battle.

i dont apply stats and trends simply because it's a game by game basis. There's no point in saying "they cant win 2 on the road in a row"...they won Game 6 and Game 7's chances are 50/50...Game 6 is in the past.

I agree. I think its ridiculous to assume the Spurs are going to win just because no team has ever won 6 and 7 on the road. There hasn't even BEEN a game 7 since 1994 (Rockets-Knicks) and last year the Pistons made history by sweeping the 3 home games (didn't they? correct me if I'm wrong.)

So to be honest, I'm rooting for the Spurs, and I think they have a good chance to win, but Im leaning towards the Pistons winning this game.

:barf:

I'm not sure who you guys are defending the Pistons against...where is that article from a sportswriter saying the Spurs are a 100% lock to win game 7? I can't find it. I've read no less than 14 articles, all saying the same thing: Spurs have home court advantage, Pistons are tough.

Fri Jun 24, 2005 8:49 am

Enough with teh statistics and history already.... Those guys are professional athletes:

It's one game for one season... The team who handles it the best will win (unless Horry is in the mood for another extra-terrestrial , Hall-of-Fame inducting performance...)

Fri Jun 24, 2005 11:00 am

I agree it's wrong to assume victory for the Spurs, but there are historical comparisons worth making. That's where the whole "history on their side" thing comes in, though it's hardly a guarantee.

GG DETROIT!!

GUARANSHEED?
"IT'S ON?"
IT'S RIP'S "DESTINY" TO WIN A 2ND CHAMPIONSHIP?

GO SPURS

Fri Jun 24, 2005 1:55 pm

SPURS WIN!!!

Fri Jun 24, 2005 1:57 pm

At least the Suns lost to the eventual championship. Duncan played a great game and played like what he is: the best player on the court. Manu really clinched it in the 4th and brought his A game. Detroit was hanging on by a Rasheed Wallace.

Fri Jun 24, 2005 1:57 pm

Spurs win :( Can't believe Detroit faltered in the 4th.....i'm going to cry now

Congratulations to both teams for an amazing finals.

Fuck you Rasheed Wallace, I hate you, I'm glad to see you lose you mutherfucker.

Now that I have that off my chest, have fun with it San Antonio, you get it for one year, next year the trophys comin to Conseco!!!!!

Great conclusion to the series, just as exciting as Games 5 and 6. Congratulations to both teams and to Tim Duncan for winning his third Finals MVP trophy. At times it looked as though he might come up short again (he did miss 17 shots and at one point went almost 14 minutes without a field goal), but he made his free throws and found Bowen and Ginobili for those timely threes. Great block by Bowen, a great effort by the Spurs to hold off the Pistons in the final two minutes as they really threatened to pull off the unlikely for a moment there.

The last three games definitely made up for the first four blowouts. Great series, not my favourite but it ended a lot better than I expected it to. Looking ahead to next season, it will be interesting to see if both these teams are back here next June.

And not only him. Also Small Ben, R.I.P. Richard Hamilton (1978-2005) and Tshonsay! I hate these stupid ass hoes. Manu's final three point shot was a relief!! Thanks Manu and Timmy D! And shame on you, Tony (yes, I mean the three airballs). I hope the whole Pistons team dies in some time of the loss... I know that R.I.P. won't take that loss! Nobody will ever see him again! I'm soooo proud!!

Fri Jun 24, 2005 2:28 pm

LMAO! You wish the trophy was going to Indy next year  Well Congrats to the Spurs, I knew they were going to win it all along. I really wouldn't mind if the Pistons won it because I don't hate neither team, but I the Spurs were the better team.

Whats wrong with Sheed?
He is a champion, he keeps the game exciting and fun to watch.
And he tought your very own Jermaine Oneal how to play and not to do things he did.

Not anymore. And why didn't he get a technical for the intentional punch into Manu's face?

Fri Jun 24, 2005 2:35 pm

a champion not meaning winning wise.
He is a gun/legend/great player/ one of those.

Fri Jun 24, 2005 2:41 pm

He is a gay/retard/fool... I think one of those.

Fri Jun 24, 2005 2:47 pm

Spurs are worthy champions, definitely the champion i prefer over all the other contenders (unless you count Seattle as a contender, heh).

But Detroit deserves a hand, they were 5x as tough as anyone expected when the playoffs started.

But in a last jab, Big Shot Billups vs Big Shot Bob:
Billups: 3-8, 0-3
Horry: 4-7, 2-4

Duncan will get MVP but every game Manu played well, the Spurs won.

(Sheed has 1 f'n rebound? cmon sheed...)

Congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs for winning the 2005 NBA Finals... It was a fun and tough 7 game series... To the Detroit Pistons, not bad either... they have proven that they are a worthy championship team last year... Onward to the 2005 NBA draft.

San Antonio, hey I missed the game but I get to watch it on tape. San Anotonio your 2005 NBA Champions. They do basketball right. I'm very pleased with the results of this team winning, though I know alot of people will miss the who point of the adversity they went through this year, they earned this trophy against their toughest Finals opponent in franchise history. I appreciate what they did all year and to see them sitting on top is just great. Now let's do it again and grab some supporting members who can help make it a reality again in 2006.

Luis Scola for one is joining the team. Great Argentine banger at the PF position... you'll be surprised... Plus no 28 of the draft... and almost everyone is returning for next year.... Things are looking good for 2006

Is Scola quick? I would like to see some quickness next to Tim this year. Capable of rebounding too. I like Nazr but I would like to see someone quicker coming off the bench, and I mean quicker than Horry. LOL
