Great news, I'm very glad for him!!

As Drex put it, he deserved it. :)

Is this contest restricted to white foreigners or something. I'm putting money on Bogut to win it next year (Y)

Mon Jun 13, 2005 5:56 am

Actually, Pau was the winner from last season beating out Kobe. So I guess they made Pau go up against Ginobili since he was the winner last year and maintained some decent stats. Don't hate the Spaniard from the Grizzlies or the black Argentinian

Well, why is Pau going up against Ginobili, but not any one of the other players that ceekay mentioned?

Mon Jun 13, 2005 2:46 pm

Ginobili's in the Finals, the rest (with the exception of Rasheed) are not. I suppose it's a matter of "out of sight, out of mind".

Probably the same way Yao beat Shaq in the all-star game.

Probably since Kobe was in all that trouble and they would've let someone that wasn't in trouble win it :P

Pau isn't in The Finals either, meaning they should have put somebody from the Pistons for the other baller. Or from the Spurs again.

What is it? Nike Baller of the Week wrote:We want to know what you think. Each week, we'll spotlight two Nikebasketball.com ballers who will be matching up in a single game later that week. It's up to you, the fans, to vote on who you think should be the Nikebasketball.com Baller of the Week, based on who you think will have the stats, team performance and intangible baller qualities like artistry, finesse, and power in the selected game.

I guess Kobe's inability to play a team game is what had Gasol beat him out last year. Either that, or the rape trial had to do something with his diminishing popularity.

That sounds like a good explanation, I doubt Nike wanted Kobe as their baller of the year due to the rape charges, I heard he lost a few endorsements because of it so that seems like a pretty good guess.

Pau was the defending "champion" though; perhaps that's the criteria for choosing him, while Ginobili's this year's representative because he's in the Finals.

it still dont make sense though.

coz they go through a playoff bracket type thing, with head-to-head matchups, so kobe got votes over all the other nike guys before the finals also lol.

its gotta be rigged, has to be!

Wed Jun 15, 2005 12:36 am

Perhaps you're right, because I'm sure there's more Kobe fans than Gasol fans... but, but, there could be more Kobe haters than Kobe fans :!:
