10-Game Recap

Postby Heiks on Tue Apr 19, 2005 5:33 am

Here's a quick round up of the 10 games played after the ASWE.
And apparently this is my 500th post in these forums. Hurray! Woohoo! By the way how the hell did it take me so long???

February 21, 2005
Wizards Zone Out Sixers
Philadelphia 52 - Washington 104

Eddie Jordan's team played 2-3 zone all night long and Philadelphia had no
medicine against it. Only Sixers in double figures were guards Allen Iverson
and Willie Green. Philadelphia shot only .253 percent from the floor.

...

February 26, 2005
Memphis Relieved At The Buzzer
Washington 109 - Memphis 112

Memphis turned this game around in the fourth, as they came back from a
7-point deficit. All of their 31 4ht period points were scored by Gasol, Posey,
Miller and Williams. Wizards' Anthony Peeler missed the buzzer that would
have tied the game.

...

March 2, 2005

Wizards Beat Nets, Loose Howard
New Jersey 81 - Washington 100

Vince Carter's 32 points weren't enough, but Antawn Jamison proved his all-around
game with a triple-double (20pts, 14rebs, 12asts) Washington played great defense
and forced both Kidd and Carter to 7 turnovers. Rookie Dwight Howard was injured
in a collision with Kidd 4 minutes before the end of the game and was expected to
miss the next 6 games.

...

March 4, 2005

Arenas Did It All
Orlando 67 - Washington 97

Gilbert Arenas dropped 31, dished 7, stole 5 and furthermore stopped Magic's
Steve Francis from putting up same kind of stats. Francis was held to only
12 points and 2 assists. That destroyed Orlandos offense, they shot only
.337 percent from the field.

...

March 6, 2005

Bulls Beat Wizards in Opening 10 Minutes
Chicago 108 - Washington 90

The Bulls won the opening quarter 30-7 and never looked back. Wizards' duo
Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes combined 59 points, 11 assists and 7 steals,
but that wasn't enough to pull back the Howardless Wizards. Six of Chicago's
players scored a double digit number of points.

...

March 8, 2005

Marbury's Knicks Outrun Wizards
New York 109 - Washington 106

The Wizards were great on offense but awful in defense. Neither Larry Hughes
nor Gilbert Arenas managed to stop Stephon Marbury who had 41 points and
6 assists. The game was even until the fourth when the Knicks pulled ahead
with 13. Washington managed to come back, but not soon enough.

...

March 10, 2005

Wizards Loose Third In a Row
Washington 88 - New Orleans 98

The Wizards once again failed to stop the opposite team's pointguard. Hornet
Baron Davis scored 25 of his 41 points in the critical second half as New Orleans
outscored Washington 51-38. The Wizards are on their longest loosing streak.
The last time the lost consecutive games was in December.

...

March 15, 2005

Wizards Keep Raptors Out Of Touch
Toronto 87 - Washington 94

The Wizards opened the game with a 11-2 run and the difference stayed there
until the end. Toronto were in it but didn't take the lead through the whole
game. Larry Hughes was the Player of the Game with 27 points, 8 rebounds
6 assists and 4 steals.

...

March 16, 2005

Wizards Stomp Shorthanded Dallas
Dallas 62 - Washington 120

The absence of Michael Finley turned out to be much more critical that anyone
expected. The Mavs lost the first period 28-27, but that was only the beginning.
They lost the second period 34-18 and scored only 21 points in the
second half. Dirk Nowitzki was held to just 6 points. Brendan Haywood had a
great game: 19 points, 11 boards and two steals. Jamison, Hughes and
Arenas combined 68 points.

...

March 22, 2005

Howard Returns With A Double-Double
Washington 105 - Portland 82

Every Blazers' player who came on the court scored atleast a point, but they
still fell to the Washington Wizards. Both of the teams shot around 50%, but
Portland couldn't take as much shots as Washington.A. Jamison, L. Hughes and
G. Arenas combined 60 points and 20 assists while R. Horry and D. Howard
dominated in rebounds (accordingly 12 and 15).

...

Image
Dwight Howard's arm injury knocked the Washington Wizards' offense out of rhythm.
The team went 3-3 without their force down low, one of the top rookies this season.

Wizards Roll Past Nets
D.C. made it all obvious by the half.

Washington 110 - - -New Jersey 90

[ Box Score ]

The New Jersey Nets who fell to the Wizards at home just three weeks ago
came to Washington with revenge on their mind. The second meeting between
former UNC teammates Carter and Jamison went down the same road.

Washington built a 9 point lead just in 3 minutes and didn't allow the opponents
to get any closer the whole game. Only three men could crack the Wizards' tight
defense in the first: Jefferson, Kidd and Carter, who was allowed to shoot just
2 points. The four three-pointers by Hughes and Arenas, plus Jamison's great game
down low gave Washington a 31-14 lead.

The Wizards continued their great play in the second quarter. Robert Horry scored
all of his 11 points as Arenas and Hughes were dishing out assists (both had 4).
New Jersey couldn't answer with anything exceptional and the difference grew to
29 points. Jefferson was the only Net in trouble figures at the half.

As the second half begun the Nets tightened up their defense and scored a bit
more points at the other end. Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson took care of the
scoring while Washington remained quite humble. The Nets won the period 24-20.

New Jersey's game improved minute by minute. They had cut their deficit to 14
by the middle of the fourth quarter while Vince Carter scored 15 of his 28 points.
Washington managed to keep their lead thanks to consistent trips to the freethrow
line, they shot 11/11. Another important factor was guard Juan Dixon who shot 7
points and had 2 assists in the last 4 minutes.

Washington had 12 turnovers in the second half. Despite of that six players managed
to score a double figure of points. New Jersey's Nenad Kristic had a great defensive
game: 8 defensive rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals. The Wizards couldn't hit a 3-pointer
after the first period.

The only bucket that VC managed to score in the first period. There is no sign of Dwight Howards recent injury.

Kristic played great defense and put down a few aswell. - - - Antawn Jamison scored his 19 points in just 20 minutes.

I must confess I've been a bit selfish about Dynasty threads this year, but I've been reading through this one including your latest updates and I have to say, nice job. (Y) The recaps are well-written and I like your presentation, especially the way you've used images and in particular the screenshots.

Last Quarter Drama
Hughes' late heroics save Wizards.

- - Imagevs.Image
Golden State 102- - Washington 106

[ Box Score ]

The game that could have been a blowout turned out as one of the most exciting
matches throughout this season. Thanks to Larry Hughes Washington escaped
with the victory.

The Wizards had a great start and built a 9-point lead in few minutes, but by the
middle of the quarter the Warriors tied the game. At this point the teams were
tied at 14. Mike Dunleavy Jr. displayed his shooting talent and dropped 12 points
in the first as Golden State outran Washington 14-6 in the last four and a half
minutes. The Wizards shot only .318 from the field.

Washington improved its game in the second period, Larry Hughes did a great job
guarding Dunleavy, who scored only 2 more points by the half. Both of the teams
shot over 50% and the game was dead-even. Gilbert Arenas' mid-range shot at the
halftime buzzer cut the deficit to 4 points.

There were a lot of lead changes in the second half. Washington caught up and went
ahead. Then Jason Richardson stepped up and took the Warriors ahead. The Wizards
puled back thanks to great team play on offense, but Golden State shot 75% from the
field throughout the whole quarter and won it 32-25. Washington was in a 11- point
deficit.

The fourth quarter brought a lot of drama. The Wizards came back and took the lead
thanks to Larry Hughes who played big in the fourth. He scored 9 of his 18 points in
the last 8 minutes. Jason Richardson, who scored 19 of his points in the second half
kept the game even. Howard who was just 2/9 from the field shot nine points and took
down 4 rebounds in the last 10 minutes.

The game was all tied a minute before the end, but Troy Murphy missed a important
shot down low and Hughes answered with a quick lay-up at the other end. The Warriors
couldn't realise their next offensive play and Gilbert Arenas' three at 32.5 out the Wizards
up by 5. Golden State wasted another chance and quickly fouled on Jamison who nailed
one of the two foul-shots. Richardson nailed two freethrows at the other end and Golden
State put Jamison again on the line. This time he hit them both. The Warriors managed
to score a quick basket but there was only a second left on the clock and the Wizards held
on to a 106-102 victory.

On the paper Washington dominated the offensive glass and shot .682 percent from the
field in the last 10 minutes. Dunleavy finished with 25 points and 7 boards, Richardson
had 24 at 10/16 shooting. Arenas was the Player of the Game with 19 points, 7 boards
and 6 assists.

Nice point distribution between your players, but it doesn't look like Arenas and Hughes scores as much as they do in real life.

i noticed it myself, i've changed my offense a bit in the last two games, played more with the bench than usually
but they still put up about 23 and 19 ppg, i guess its about 2-3ppg less than in real life, not too shabby...

anyways, important game against the Kings, who now have the best record in the league,
so you can expect bigger impact from my guards larry and gilbert

Another 10-Game Recap

Postby Heiks on Sat May 28, 2005 11:59 pm

Been lazy again, VERY LAZY... I guess I have to switch to 10-game recaps from now on

March 31, 2005
No C-Webb, No Game
Washington 102 - Sacramento 82

Chris Webber had foul trouble from the beginning and played for just 17 minutes.
Bibby led the Kings with 23 points, Hughes led the Wizards with 28. Arenas just
missed out on a triple-double with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists.

...

April 2, 2005
Hughes Passes, Arenas Scores
Washington 97 - Cleveland 81

This one turned out to be a one man show: Gilbert Arenas scored 18 points in
the first quarter and 48 through-out the game. Arenas had 7 assists and 4 steals
aswell. Hughes had a bad shooting day, but that didn't stop him from helping
the team. He dished out 16 assists as the Wizards had 20 more assist in the
game compared to the Cavs. McInnis Was the only Cav who managed to score
over 15 points, he had 34.

...

April 3, 2005

Wizards Beat Celtics, Win Division
Boston 104 - Washington 109

The game was tight all the way. The teams were tied at 102 with 1.25 to go, but
reserve Laron Profit scored 4 of Wizards' last 7 points, as Larry Hughes ensured
the victory with his only made 3-pointer just 30 seconds before the end. Bostons'
Davis, Pierce and Payton scored over 20 points and had 4 or more assists.
Dwight Howard led the Wizards with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.

...

April 6, 2005

Rookie Of The Year Matchup
Washington 105 - Charlotte 91

On this game's performance Dwight Howard would be the Rookie of the Year with
no questions asked. He put up 34 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks as fellow
rookie Okafor had a decent double-double: 10 and 10. Larry Hughes had a
triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. The best Bobcat was
Kapono with 27 points, shooting 7/11 from downtown.

...

April 8, 2005

Wizards Outrun Cavs
Cleveland 92 - Washington 102

These teams met for the second time in a week, but much didn't change. The teams
had more of a all around game, but the Wizards still managed to get the best of it.
Larry Hughes was voted the Player of the Game with 18 points, 5 boards, 8 assists
and 6 steals.

...

April 12, 2005

Hughes Continues Strong Game, Wiz Win
LA Clippers 86 - Washington 106

Both of the teams stared with poor shooting, but the Wizards pulled away in the
second quarter as they shot .667 percent from the field. The Clippers didn't have an
assist through the first half. The Wizards shot 7/11 from behind the arc. Jaric
tried to pull the Clips back as he scored 14 of his 16 in the last 10 minutes, but it
wasn't enough. Hughes' 27 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals were too
much for LA.

...

April 14, 2005

Warriors Fall To Wizards
Washington 92 - Golden State 83

The Washington Wizards were once again too strong for the opposite team. They
out-rebounded Golden State 52-36. Jamison shot 3/4 from outside, Arenas dropped
24 points, dished 6 assists and Hughes play at the same level as previous games.
All that was too much for the Warriors, their best performance was by Speedy
Claxton who had 21 points, 5 boards, 5 steals.

...

April 17, 2005

Wizards Keep Magic Out Of Touch
Washington 105 - Orlando 91

This late season matchup was a two man battle. Grant Hill and Antawn Jamison
went at each other all night long. Jamison, who fouled out with 8 minutes remaining,
had 27 points (10/15 FG), 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Grant Hill answered
with 29 points (13/20 FG), 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Francis had foul trouble
from early on, he couldn't support his team enough.

...

April 19, 2005

Jamison Red Hot
Sacramento 79 - Washington 106

Washington played great defense and allowed the Kings to score only 16 points in
the first and 17 in the third period. The Wizards' offense was concentrated on Jamison,
who was 18/33 from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds (6 of them at offense),
had 44 points. The best King was Mike Bibby with 20 points.

...

April 20, 2005

Wizards Finish Season With
15 Game Winning Streak

Denver 119 - Washington 127

The last game of the season terrified the Wizards' fans, as Arenas injured his right
knee 8 minutes before the end of the regular season. Washington's playoff
success was under a question-mark. Larry Hughes and Antawn Jamison took
care of the victory, combining 65 points, Voshon Lenard led the Nuggets with 28.

Later at the press conference Eddie Jordan announced that Arenas luckily suffered
only a minor injury and will be fully capable of playing in the playoffs. "I think
the Dear Lord was on upon us today. If we had lost Gilbert, we could have only
dreamed about the second round," said Jordan, referring to the first round matchup
against the Toronto Raptors.

...

Image
Arenas' injury in the last game scared a lot of people, but everything seems to
be OK, so expect good performancein the playoffs from the Washington Wizards.

Wizards Ready For Playoffs
Post Season Returns To Washington

The Washington Wizards who won just 0.305 percent of their games last season,
finishing third last in the season standings, but things have remarkably turned
around. Coach Eddie Jordan has made some adjustments in his tactics and the
arrival of forward Antawn Jamison, veteran Robert Horry and rookie Dwight
Howard, fantastic efforts by guards Larry Hughes and Gilbert arenas and a solid
second line up has brought this team back to the top.

Washington, led by Wes Unseld, won their last title in 1978 against the Seattle
Supersonics. Now, almost two decades later the team has once again a shot at
it. But coach Eddie Jordan stays shy: “Well making it to the post season isn't
the same as playing in the finals. We have a long way to go and further more
the no. 1 seed brings expectations and expectations bring stress and pressure.
Actually the second seed would have been more comfortable, but we would
never trade it for the regular season victory. Finishing first is always great, but
the trophies are yet to play for.”

Their last performance in the playoffs was 8 years ago, in 1997 as the Bullets
matched up against the first seeded future NBA champions, the Chicago Bulls.
Washington was swept 3-0. But now the Wizards are in the opposite position.
They will meet the honor of Canada, the Toronto Raptors, who just made it
past the Hawks even though finishing the season with 8 consecutive losses.
Gilbert Arenas isn't that worried about the future: “As long the team plays
great basketball and the guys get along, we have no intention to miss out on the
conference finals. So see you all there!”
