if Sonics lose Game 5 then it's bye bye to them.
Even if Sonics do go down in this series, taking them to 6, 7 games makes them a worthy advasary.

In the final round, it's 2-3-2. In the first three rounds, the team that's secured home court advantage (ie the one with the better regular season record) hosts game five and seven.

You know if I was coaching the Sonics I'd instruct my guards that the refs don't consider it traveling as long as you cradle the ball in both arms and put your head down while running in the lane.

SAN ANTONIO, May 17 (Ticker) -- After moving Manu Ginobili back into the starting lineup, the San Antonio Spurs are on the verge of finishing off the Seattle SuperSonics.
Ginobili scored a playoff career-high 39 points and helped contain Ray Allen as the Spurs pulled away for a 103-90 victory over the SuperSonics in the pivotal fifth game of their Western Conference semifinal series.
News conference: 300k
Ginobili teamed with Nazr Mohammed to score all of the points in a decisive run that opened the third quarter and gave the sporadic Spurs the lead for good - and control of the series.
An All-Star for the first time this season, Ginobili agreed to come off the bench after San Antonio lost its playoff opener at home. The move sparked the Spurs to six straight wins.
But after losing a pair of games in Seattle that evened this series, San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich moved Ginobili back into the starting lineup. The Argentine responded by making 10-of-15 shots and 15-of-17 free throws.
Ginobili also had six assists, forcing Allen to work on defense. With Bruce Bowen hounding Allen at the other end, the All-Star guard of the SuperSonics scored just four points in the second half, finishing with 19.
After a scoreless first quarter punctuated by two fouls, Allen scored 15 points in the second period, when the Sonics rallied from a nine-point deficit for a 50-50 halftime tie.
However, Ginobili and Mohammed took charge in the third quarter, combining for San Antonio's first 20 points. Mohammed scored nine of his 19 points in the surge and Ginobili had 11, including three free throws that opened a 70-55 lead with 6:31 to go. The Sonics closed to 82-75 early in the fourth quarter before Ginobili made two foul shots to reverse the momentum.
He added a driving finger roll, a feed to Robert Horry for a dunk and a beautiful behind-the-back move that led to a flagrant foul on Damien Wilkins and two free throws for a 95-81 advantage with 4:22 left.
Tim Duncan had 20 points and 14 rebounds for the second-seeded Spurs, who can reach the conference finals for the first time since their 2003 championship season with a win at Seattle on Thursday.

The series has yet to see a road team win.
Hopefully Sonics win game 6 and they win the first road game of the series.

What do you mean by that?

Duncan with a game winner..good job by the sonics.. ray allen barely missed a game winner
They played very good considering their 2nd and 3rd leading scorers were out.
PS- this is the type of game where you look back and see where 2 points came from.. look no further than technical fouls.

That was a sweet pass by Ginobili to Duncan for the game winner. There was like 3 seconds left and Ginobili was still dribbling at the top of the key and not even thinking about shooting it and I'm like, wtf is he doing?! Suddenly he makes a bullet pass to Duncan and Duncan throws it over Potapenko and damn, that's an awesome play for a quick basket. Great move by Ginobili!

For Seattlites this was still a great season...so much for all those experts predicting we'd be the 3rd worst team in the League along with Atlanta and Charlotte!
And how sweet it was that Seattle were the ones to eliminate Minnesota from the playoffs mua ha ha.
The real win is that this playoff run will convince Nate & Ray that Seattle is a playoff team in the next few years. There was a good chance both were going to leave for better pastures if this season was a repeat of last season's.
As well, Phoenix needs to play the Spurs, it's not justice otherwise. Phoenix would crush Seattle in the Conf Finals...now we'll see a real series for the West (assuming Dallas doesn't go nuts for 2 straight games).

but i wont bandwagon yet.

1 more win in the next 3 games and we're in the finals... Too bad it wasn't a sweep, that would have sent a message...
Thu Jun 02, 2005 7:37 pm
That's it faithful, we're in the Finals for the 3rd time in the past 7 years. Let's make it 3 out of 3, shall we? Homecourt advantage against either Detroit or Miami...
Thu Jun 02, 2005 7:43 pm
I didn't see you in the Spurs' lineup?
