I hope they use the 2nd round pick smarter than that, there's a HUGE chance he'll go undrafted and there's some pretty useful guys available in the 2nd round. Although knowing my luck the Lakers draft will be Monta Ellis and Sun Ming Ming... in which case Operation Bomb STAPLES goes into full effect.

lol... Sun Ming Ming could make the second round next year but not this... hes goign to play for CHinas national team and will be back in july to tryout for teams!

That article says he'll be trying to get signed as a free agent if he's not drafted.

Well China is the most populated country on earth and this guy did not play b-ball until recently from what I read.

Yeah, and this guy wasn't known to me until recently.
In my opinion,Sun cannot and wont reach the level of Yao.Height is not everything,he doesnt seem to have something special except his height.More,he doesnt get much experience from games,he achieved nothing before, hes 22 now, while Yao has got a champion in China Basketball Association at the same age.

Everyone should just accept it now, this guy will have the same fate as Mengke Bateer, Wang Zhizhi, Ha Seung Jin and Yuta Tabuse. If he plays 5 minutes for a team, I'll be surprised, and if he's not out of the league in 2 years, I'll be even more surprised.

Well, Pippen started playing basketball in college, so who knows, maybe Sun Mingming could learn to play at a faster pace. Chances are, he probably won't

Anyone can get heaps good... its just if u got the time!

I guarentee Sun Ming Ming will be a waste in the NBA. Don't expect him to be nothing like Yao. He looks like a fool if you ask me, just look at his face

I bet he don't even know position he plays

all that really matters is, is he willing to do the work that it takes to make it at this level. alot of players in america are naturally talented but just wont do the work it takes to make it in the nba so they flop. this guy is naturally tall and i honestly think the best part about him is that he is so raw. a team could snatch him up at the end of the second round or as a free agent and spend the next few years molding him. hell sign him and just dont use him for a year or 2 and make him do nothing but workout and practice american ball.

the worst part about this guy is he is from china and will probably be worn out before he has a chance to get good.

Wed Jun 01, 2005 11:34 am

thats where a development league would come in handy!

Wed Jun 01, 2005 11:46 am

i personally he would be best served in not entering the draft, or signing with a team at all this year. take 1 full calender year to work out and get into nba condition. also spend some time learning basketball. i dont mean stay in china and learn, i mean play in america with coaches that can show you how things are done. if he just jumps into the league i have a feeling teams will become impatient with him or he will not get the attention he needs to improve.

Guys, stop doubting the guy with the Yoda sig. Come on, you know he's right.

Wed Jun 01, 2005 9:00 pm

From what I read I don't think he might be NBA ready this upcoming draft. He is listed 7'8 and 360 lbs  but I bet if Shaq bumped onto Ming Ming he would hit the floor in no time :) height is not everything and Shaq is a powerfull beast :)

Source mentioned he has never weight trained in his life, well if he wants to enter the NBA he better do ALOT OF THAT because strength is required in today's NBA in order to succeed.

Wed Jun 01, 2005 9:28 pm

Yeah, imgine if he ended up 7'9 and 400 lbs!

No mather how bad he is, he could still dominate. Imgine him going ug against Chicago's frontcourt. Can Antonio Davis still touch the rim?

Thu Jun 02, 2005 7:42 am

this is the problem. just because he is so big he will be surrounded with hype. once that happens it does not matter what he actually does in the league, in the eyes of most he will be a failure. just like yao is now. so many yao bashers out there right now just cause of his hype/size. people seem to think just cause you are bigger than everyone you should own them. if that was true then why is boykins even scoring 1 point in the nba?

Thu Jun 02, 2005 8:58 am

I dont think u want to get behind a huge body.. all that momentum would crush u!

Thu Jun 02, 2005 11:35 am

"mmm the force is strong in this one"
