2006 Online Play?

Postby Oosh on Fri May 20, 2005 2:19 am

Ok ive been out of the mix for a while because NBA 2k5 has had me locked to my playstation but I desperatley want to get back into Live with 06 and the best way I can think to do this is to get involved with online multiplayer mode.

Now my question is... Is it only possible to play games that are 1 computer connected to another? or is it possible to have a game server where several players can connect to it and have some big games?

My vision and I have had this vision since Live 95 is to have a huge multiplayer NBA league on the net. (I actually drew up plans for this when I was a kid and wanted to submit them to EA).

Will it be possible to have a dedicated server that 24 players can connect to and we can have a realistic online league? From starters to scrubs hehe

Think about how huge this would be fellas, we would have coaches and GM's and everything and players would be REAL players and their postion on the team would be based on their actual on court performance!

Anyway I know this is possible because I already play online military games with more than 24 players and there is alot more detail involved than 24 players moving around and 1 basketball for the connection to process.

But will EA make this function available with Live 2006 or will only computer to computer type connection be available?

Sorry if this was already in the wishlist or whatever but I just had to air that out lol

Probably. You know how more then one player can play on a side if that computer has more then 1 controller? What I always thought of doing was have 2 computers both with 4 or 5 controllers so you could play with your friends and have some fun games..

Thats just stupid. EA should provide "server" software so we can get a total online league going it would be simple.

as far as actual games go, just 2 people at a time as always. there's no option for 10 people connecting and playing a game of 5 on 5(that would be total chaos)

as far as the leagues go, different leagues have different styles. CNBA in particular is a full 30 team league, with 30 people from across the US and Canada.

the league features full stat tracking, each GM can make trades with one another, sign and release free agents at will, everyone plays a 58 game schedule(2 vs each GM, 1 home, 1 away, in any order they want) and then there's full nba style playoffs at the end, along with a variety of awards for season accomplishments.

just some tidbits

Why would it be chaos?

sports games are different then shooter games, where a bunch of people are just running around killing each other.

you'd have 5 guys fighting over the ball, fighting who gets to be who on the court on which team, people playing for themselves, not running plays, not playing the game the way its supposed to be played.

i mean, if you got 5 people that really got along with each other, then I could see it. then you're talking about forming actual online teams of people, its a possibility.

personally I'd rather have total control, I wouldn't want 4 other peeps on my team, messing up everything.

Think of the bigger picture.

We could have the actual NBA on our computers. Players try to hog the ball in real life they usually wear the jersey number 8.

You guys really need to think about this a bit more.

I hope they make it where you can have leagues or at least come back later and adjust the online settings for live. I can't believe they kept those garbage settings all last year.
