Playoff History

New York Knicks vs. Seattle Supersonics

These two teams have no history of facing each other in the NBA Playoffs.

Last year, the Seattle Supersonics fell short of making the NBA Playoffs. The Knicks made the Playoffs, but got swept by the New Jersey Nets 4 games to none in the First Round.

NBA Finals History

New York Knicks

NBA Titles: 2 Total appearances: 8 Last appearance: 1999

The Knicks last trip to the NBA Finals was in 1999, where they lost to the San Antonio Spurs 4-1. The Knicks were the #8 seed in the East and upset the #1 seed Miami Heat in the opening round in five games.

In the 90s, the Knicks also made it to the finals in 1994, losing in 7 games to a Hakeem Olajuwon-led Houston Rockets team that would go on to repeat a year later.

The last time they won the NBA Championship was in 1974, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 4-1. Just a year earlier, they lost in the Finals to the same team. In 1970, they also won the NBA Championship, behind the stellar play of Willis Reed in Game 7 at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks also made the NBA Finals in three straights years from 1951-1953, but never won any.

Seattle Supersonics

NBA Titles: 1 Total appearances: 3 Last appearance: 1996

The Sonics last trip to the NBA Finals was in 1996, where they lost to the record-breaking 72-10 Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls 4-2.

The last time they won the NBA Championship was in 1979, defeating the Washington Bullets 4-1. Just like the Knicks, a year earlier they lost in the Finals to the same team they would end up beating for the NBA Championship.

Playoff Experience

Mehmet Okur: Finals
Kevin Garnett: Conference Finals
Kyle Korver: none
Baron Davis: Conference Semifinals
Gilbert Arenas: none
Chris Mihm: none
Vladamir Radmanovic: First Round
Charlie Ward: Finals
Steve Smith: Finals
Samaki Walker: Finals
Casey Jacobsen: First Round

Kelvin Cato: Conference Finals
P.J. Brown: Conference Finals
Caron Butler: Conference Semifinals
Michael Redd: First Round
Gary Payton: Finals
Chris Wilcox: none
Manu Ginobili: Finals
Stephen Jackson: Finals
Shammond Williams: none

Knicks
Finals: 4
Conference Finals: 1
Conference Semifinals: 1
First Round: 2
None: 3

Sonics
Finals: 3
Conference Finals: 2
Conference Semifinals: 1
First Round: 1
None: 2

The experience is about the same, but the old veteran Gary Payton should have the advantage on the young stud Gilbert Arenas in terms of being able to use his old tricks to keep up with the All-Star. Arenas is without question the fresher of the two, but what GP lacks in youth, he'll be sure to make up with his experience of being to the Finals before. Sonics also have two proven scorers and Ginobili and Stephen Jackson, who have won it before, coming off the bench.

Season Series

Sunday, March 13: Sonics defeat the Knicks 133-129 (0-1) @ Madison Square Garden
Friday, March 25: Knicks defeat the Sonics (1-1) @ Key Arena

The season series was even (1-1). Both teams won on the other's home floor.

New York Knicks have the best record in the league (62-20) and have won nineteen of their last twenty-one games going into this series. They swept the Chicago Bulls(8) in the First Round and the Detroit Pistons(4) in the Conference Semifinals, and they beat a tough Shaq-led 76ers team in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Seattle Supersonics(41-41) are the #8 seed in the West. But they upset the #1 seed Denver Nuggets in the opening round. They swept the Utah Jazz (5) in the Conference Semifinals. And in the Western Conference Finals they beat the dynamic duo of LeBron James and Vince Carter and the Golden State Warriors in 5 games, a team that had the Knicks number, sweeping them in the home and home series.

Knicks get off to a rocky start, but walk all over Seattle in Game 1 win.

Knicks got off to a rocky start. They ended the first quarter with a defensive 3 second technical foul called, and then a Baron Davis foul on Manu Ginobli on a 3! The Seattle Supersonics took a 6 point lead into the second quarter.

From there, the Knicks got things under control outscoring the Supersonics by 7 in the quarter and taking a 1 point lead into the half. The second half was all Knicks. The Sonics defensive intensity letdown allowing the Knicks to scored 49 points in each quarter! By the end of third quarter, the Knicks had a 17 point lead. And in the fourth things got worse, as the Knicks built the lead up to as much as 29.

Baron Davis had a brilliant passing game and outplayed "The Glove" Gary Payton, dishing 17 assists. In his return to Madison Square Garden, the Sonics' Michael Redd had a team-high 34 points.

Baron Davis skies!

KG explodes for 53! Knicks blow Sonics out again.

Just like in game one, the Sonics broke down defensively allowing the Knicks to explode offensively. The Sonics frontline has shown they have no answer for the MVP, Kevin Garnett. He got 53 and could not miss from the field, shooting a perfect 100% from the field on 24 field goals. KG also got the job done of the defensive end, blocking 7 shots! He also had 10 rebounds.

The only difference this game was the Sonics did not wait until the second half, falling behind by 13 after the first quarter. Gilbert Arenas himself had 17 first quarter points, only six shy of what the Sonics had as a team. By halftime, they got the lead down to 10, but in the third the hometown Knicks outscored the Sonics by 17 and put the game out of reach.

In the loss, one time Knick Michael Redd led the Supersonics in scoring with 25.

Well you could be on your way to another sweep. You going to have to win the next two games in Seattle though.

Didn't you ask that before?

I think that would mess up the minutes played per game stats.

Why would it? Your players would only go down in the mpg rankings, but he said after you win the title so it would have no effect except they can't average 48 mpg maximum but 40 instead. I use 10 min too and 12 min sim length, no problems with that for me. Still up to you but this dynasty would be even better if you had realistic scores.

We score a lot, but look at our roster.

With Golden State, look at how much Baron Davis is scoring..

And we have plenty more shooters than they have.. Vlad, Korver, Smith, Jacobsen can all hit the outside shot. Plus we got the MVP, Kevin Garnett, in the middle!

Knicks Take Commanding 3-0 Lead.

Games 1 and 2 were dominated by the Knicks, blowout after blowout. So back in Seattle, the Supersonics hoped to have a change of luck. It was not enough. The firepower of Kevin Garnett, Baron Davis, and Gilbert Arenas has been left unmatched by the Seattle’s stars. Knicks lead the game from the start and never looked back.

Kevin Garnett had another big game, scoring 35 points. Chris Mihm, who pretty much started for the Knicks all season until Knicks Coach Lenny Wilkens decided to go small for more of a scoring lineup in the Playoffs, got the start Sunday at Center replacing Vladimir Radmanovic in the lineup and had a big night off the boards with 18. Michael Redd was again the Sonics high man with 26.

Knicks will look to get another win in Seattle to Wednesday in order complete the sweep. It'd be the first sweep in the NBA Finals since 2002 when the Los Angeles Lakers took down the New Jersey Nets in 4 games.

NEW YORK KNICKS: 2005 NBA CHAMPIONS! NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BACK IN THE BIG APPLE!

Knicks fans have had to wait a long time for this. It's been 31 years since the Big Apple last hoisted the Larry O'Brien Trophy following Willis Reed's heroics in a game 7 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Knicks swept the Sonics in 4 games.

The only negative about this is that the Knicks did not win it on their home court and will have to wait until they fly cross-country back to the East Coast and New York City, before they can celebrate with their fans.

The Series MVP Kevin Garnett again had a big game, with 32 points off high-percentage shooting. Michael Redd had 29 points for the Sonics.

Knicks swept 3 of 4 of their Playoff series, finishing 16-2 in the Playoffs and winning 23 of their last 25 games.

CONGRATS DUDE!
I hope to see this in real life in a couple of years.
I'm wondering though, why are Korver and Okur holding the trophy, why not KG and BDiddy? :)
Imagine how KG would trip when he would really win this.
