HUGE Boston-Denver trade!!!!!

Postby Brave Sir Rubin on Fri Feb 21, 2003 8:09 am

well...not really...

ESPN.com reports that the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics have agreed to a minor deal. The Celtics will trade guard Shammond Williams, cash and a second round pick to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for center Mark Blount and forward Mark Bryant.

The deal was to be officially announced later Thursday.

Williams, a fifth-year guard, was Boston's third-string playmaker, behind J.R. Bremer and Tony Delk. With the Nuggets, he will join Chris Whitney and rookie Junior Harrington as the point guards on the team with the league's second-worst record (12-43).

Williams averaged 7.3 points and 2.5 assists in 51 games for the Celtics

celtics get the most out of this....size....they didn't need williams...

Yeah...the Celtics don't need a point guard  they need a underrated big man they let go and won't play and one who won't be suiting up

Denver gets Shammond WIlliams who I like. In the beginning of the year when he got time, he was tremendous for the Celtic dropping 20+ points on the regular. Now with the emergence of Bremer Shammond sat at the end of the bench.

I Will be disappointed if he doesn't start for Denver. Lorinza(JR) Harrington shouldn't be starting, he should be COMPETING for an NBDL STARTING job, let along on an NBA team. And I think Williams is better then Chris Whitney who i've always liked.

Williams should definately get the start. Cannot really understand this trade from the Celtics point of view. Williams was their second best point guard (Bremer has nothing on him) and they give him away for two post stiffs.

That is the point Clinton, they don't have any help in the post, these guys (Walker, McCarty) just like to shoot 3s, those they are getting are better for rebs. They have this Bremer guy & T. Delk, what else do you want at the PG? They do need to start getting rid of all those SF so they get some SG and Centers.

My point scubilete was that they gave up their backup point guard for two guys who are good for a couple of fouls. They aren't going to help in the post, they will be lucky to get minutes. The Celts have enough big bodies (Battie, Baker, Moore, Sundov and Long), they didn't need to get 2 who can't do jack.

Yes, I know your point Clinton. But those guys are not doing anything, the only one is Battie who is starting at Center. I just guess they want big bodies there who can rebound. Those guys you meant, that Long, is kinda old, Sundov, is more or less the same thing that they got, Moore, I guess he was a 10 day contract cause is not showing in the current roster and Vin Baker has been a big disappointment, those are not guys for you to have in a team. I wouldn't take Baker for free.

Battie, I believe he's playing C there, and nobody to back him up. Blount would be the only one getting his minutes, if you check, he's not that bad. He should be playing over Baker who has the same stats in more mins meaning Baker is not effective.

After that trade, they got a C, maybe not that good but better than few other guys they have there. They need to get rid of Baker, Long, Bryant and try to get a SG from that NBLD or from the CBA if it still exists, that would be the best for them.

All the Celtics really need is a couple of guys who can play in the post, regardless of their talent (or lack thereof). Battie is playing injured (I believe he's been excused from practices as a result) and Baker's health is also questionable. Walter McCarty is not a centre, he's a forward (small or power, depends who you ask), so an average/less than average centre won't go astray, especially in the East.

Moore was not signed to a new contract. Sundov is injured. Grant Long is not a Center, he's a PF pretending to be one (he's only two or three inches taller than his Uncle, at least last time I saw them standing next to each other)

Shammond Williams had become the Celtics third string point guard. Bremer is the teams best true point guard, and they are looking to develop him in the Celtics system. Delk is actually their second-point guard now (even if he starts) as the Celtics are just using him for his three-point bombing ability, his lock-up defense and if Bremer can't get it going. Bremer is their man though, Williams was dead weight.

Blount is a great re-pick up. The Celtics wanted him back last season, but luxury tax and all that. He's very quick and athletic for his size. He's also a very smart shot blocker (like Russell said, be selective, don't go after every shot...I'm talking to you Benji...) and is eaisly the best backup big man they have.

Bremer...True point guard...This guy Jacks up threes like crazy. The guy that plays most like a point guard on that team is Toine Walker and he also gets into the jacking mood leading the NBA in 3 point attempts.

I think Blount needs time before we all judge him...or maybe he was given time and I didn't know of it. Bryant on the other hand has to be one of the worst players in the NBA hands down, as he really is good for nothing.

The Celts really didn't need Mikey Moore who is comfortable playing on the perimeter, and isn't a banger.

BTW did anyone see the St. Johns game where Ingram was 2 of 20 shooting threes...THAT was funny
