Yes, they need a star, Gasol can be a 20-8 player for them, but he's not really a star player. They need a 20 PPG guy on the perimeter who can take over games, create their own shot, and make big shots.

I agree, I just don't see Pau being that 25ppg scorer and grabbing 10rpg. I don't think his basketball IQ is just as high as it can be. As long as he is, he has the chance of averaging that, but he may need help by getting another star on the team just like Yao got Tmac.

Yeah, Memphis needs a guy who demands a double team and can put pressure on the other teams defense. They have so much talent but you need that star to open everything up. They can make shots, attack the basket and play good defense but they need that one guy who can set them up and create the defense to collapse and focus on him.

Yeah, Pau demands double teams, but the fact is, we don't have that other star player that we can go to in one-on-one situations and crunchtime situations. We have so many good players and neither of them can really take someone one-on-one other than Bonzi. J-Will can do it at times though along with Mike Miller, but they don't have that star mentality.

It is, but they don't have a lot of players they can trade for star players without leaving them with even less than what they have now.

imo i don't see any big name FA's going to atlanta. so the only way ATL is going to improve is through the DRAFT... and they will use that cap space to gather 1st round picks.

 @ that J-Will pic.

Star player or no star player, I'm sure this year the roster will get a shakeup unlike last year. I can without a doubt see J-Will, Bonzi, and Stro heading out, Posey and Watson could also probably not be on the team next year. I'm sure Jerry West has had all he can take of being stomped in the first round, so I'm looking foward to the offseason to see what he does.

Too bad, i like this team.

"Pau Gasol also has proved expendable. He, too, may be dealt. In fact, he may be the first to go (don't say you weren't forewarned) in unison with one of the more desirable Grizzlies in an effort to acquire greatness for those left behind to follow."
-- New York Post

"As Shane Battier correctly noted, it'll be shocking if the Grizzlies aren't disassembled during the offseason. It's been a ruinous year with players verbally abusing each other, head coaches, assistants and the media. Bonzi and the unrestricted Swift are guaranteed to go. Rising free agent Earl Watson may have to be liberated due to a swollen salary cap ($56M next season without those three in addition to Bo Outlaw's expiring obligation). And Williams will be traded if at all possible, maybe even released outright with three years and $24M remaining on his contract."
-- New York Post

"While Swift, the lone remaining Grizzly left in the move from Vancouver said, "If it's that time, I've just got to move on"

I agree with the majority in this thread with regards to the future of the Grizzlies, Swift and Watson will price themselves out of Memphis' range, Bonzi's $8 million team option won't be picked up, so we could be looking at a very different team next season.
