I might do a free trial in the month prior to the draft  although I can afford it, but ahh well....it must be the Scottish blood in me

I reckon we should all have a draft day MSN thing. Admittedly for most of us it'd be like the middle of the night but it'd be worth it somewhat. We did have one once on AIM a few years back, all I can remember contributing was "who the fuck is Jerryl Sasser?"

 I think people are still wondering about Mr. Sasser
the Magic have a history of drafting average SG's as they think they are big PG's far too early....Sasser....and more recently Reece Gaines, who got picked before Tony Parker

as for the draft, it is usually on between midday and 5pm Aussie time if I remember correctly....I might have a sicky that day....or maybe I'll schedule my wisdom teeth to come out about half a week or so prior to it so I'm off work :o hmm....I think I like the draft too much....the joy of hearing Sean Marks' name called out was too much

Too bad you do not follow the NFL, this is the mother of all drafts... (Y)

I think I will create a mock draft thread were everyone posts only one mock draft. Then we determine the winner on draft day...

Apparentely Shelden Williams is going back to Duke. Probably hoping he'll grow or something

Wed Apr 27, 2005 10:19 pm

I would too. Last year he was overshadowed by teh many shots of JJ Redick.

Thu Apr 28, 2005 12:37 am

JJ Redick is staying at Duke as far as I know so he better get used to it.

I thought he was a senior? Dammit :x

Sat Apr 30, 2005 4:43 pm

hey now that some of the Carolins stars reported to enter the next NBA Draft I wonder if Bogus is still the top drfaft choice?? :?:

Sat Apr 30, 2005 9:24 pm

Bogus?!? I think some people think Andrew Bogut is a bogus top choice....

the only Tarheel entry that affects Bogut is that of Marvin Williams, who is a very good chance of going No. 1....it all depends on who is picking with the top pick....

Sat Apr 30, 2005 10:12 pm

It's the age old question of potential and probability. Marvin Williams has unlimited potential (like alot of athletic players that have come before him) but Bogut, if he can get stronger, already has the skills to make himself useful in the NBA without having the potential of Williams.

Hey Everyone, I had a quick squiz over everybodies Mock's and generally don't disagree in alot of cases except what someone was saying about McCants and how his height hurts him, Dwyane Wade is 6'4", I don't see many problems in his future, yes, McCants may be 6'2"-1/2 at best, but really, Fred Jones is good when he gets minutes and I'm telling you right now, McCants SHITS (pardon me) on Fred Jones! Anyway, I'm gonna follow NBAdraft.net's order and give some in-depth analysis, hope its a good help. This is my top 5, although the same as NBAdraft.net's. I'm telling you why and maybe why not.

Atlanta Hawks: Andrew Bogut #4 7'0" 242lbs Center/Power Forward

Ok, he's been thrown around on the comparison table, Divac & Miller in a Blender = Bogut, Kevin McHale, Luc Longley (LMAO). It's simple, he's got good range, he can pass the ball, he can dribble the ball, he can get up and down the court, he's fearless, look what he did to Duncan in Athens! Andrew Bogut is ready, but the main question for him is adjustment, now, being Australian and a decent basketballer myself, I know how we're bought up to play. Thank god in this case for Bogut's Croatian heritage and Americanised family! He has the skills and talent to be better than McHale, but with more strength, let's see... Atlanta need a Center desperately, whilst they wait for next years draft, Tyronn Lue is fine for 82 games as is Royal Ivey as a back-up, Draft Bogut. SPECULATION, don't be suprised to here some Dampier/Van Horn/Stackhouse for Bogut whispers over in Dallas around draft time, and if I'm Atlanta, I take Stackhouse if he's offered, oooooo I can here the retorts now :P

New Orleans Hornets: Marvin Williams #24 6'9" 230lbs Small/Power Forward

Carmelo Anthony, Luol Deng come to mind. Marvin was an excellent back-up for Roy Williams in Chapel Hill. Solid numbers in all area's proving he wasn't just an athlete. Scoop Jackson will have Marvin's back all the way to Jazz city too, this guy is so relaxed out there, smeering confidence with the game to back it up, I look for him to come in to New Orleans, give J.R. Smith a running mate and friend, hopefully for Marvin & J.R. Jamaal Magloire and P.J. Brown hang around and they can swing in a point guard or take a huge risk and trade Magloire for one. Marvin Williams won't be scoured by losing, I think he'll rise above it, no worries here.

Charlotte Bobcats: Chris Paul #3 5'11" 175lbs Point Guard

No Brainer. If Charlotte pick Deron Williams they're insane. Emeka Okafor will love Chris Paul as will Bernie Bickerstaff. He's a pure point guard, knows how to run a team, may be a little overrated, but will flourish with this roster. Look for Charlotte to make big changes this off-season. Hopefully Kareem Rush works out this summer and gets into 15-5-5 shape and hopefully Gerald Wallace will become what Charlotte drafted him for. Charlotte could make the playoffs if things go right this off-season and ding-ding! they've got the 13th pick too!

Utah Jazz: Deron Williams #5 6'3" 210lbs Point Guard

Personally, I think this guy is as overrated as they come! He's nothing special, he may be Andre Miller at best, but doesn't have the Miller effect to his game. I may be wrong, but Utah will pick up this guy and then waste him. Not much to say here, Deron Williams biggest enemy will be Jerry Sloan and Carlos Boozer who will love Deron will bite Sloan too and then Utah will be back in the lottery next summer. Just my prediction.

Portland Trail Blazers: Martynas Andriuskevicius #20 7'3" 240lbs Center/Power Forward

Dunno really, only Portland would be dumb enough to draft this guy. I love him personally, but know the realisticalities of a guy like this, stock this high for 3 reasons; 1. Name, 2. Sabonis, 3. nearest 19 year old euro that can dribble and shoot that scouts can find. Long term guy, Portland don't need an long term guy. If Utah can trade for Point leading up to or on Draft night they should get Martynas and give Mark Eaton a call to work with him. RAW is the best word to describe, he's 7'3" with skills and warms the bench while being lectured by Sabonis whilst he watch's Zalgiris get cained (as of late).

Sun May 01, 2005 1:27 am

regarding the mock:

Doubt that Portland will pass up Green, seems to be high on him. Though it might be a bluff, but he could be great there. Outlaw doesn't have starter in his future imo, and Khryapa seems more like a role-player.

The problem with that pick would be Monia <-> Green and who to go for.

Sun May 01, 2005 2:42 am

Lol yeah taking Stackhouse is a great move for Atlanta, it's not as if they have Josh Smith and Josh Childress on their team or anything.

Utah Jazz: Deron Williams #5 6'3" 210lbs Point Guard

Personally, I think this guy is as overrated as they come! He's nothing special, he may be Andre Miller at best, but doesn't have the Miller effect to his game.

He can dominate games without scoring, ala Jason Kidd. The only real problems anyone has with him is that he looks chunky and he's not really that athletic.

I also think Portland will snap up Green. Considering they're a bit shallow at SG it'd be a reasonable choice, and I think Green is probably better than Monia... it's hard to say since Monia hasn't played but Green's been praised a hell of a lot lately.

Well...
I don't think Bogut will go second, IMO he's teh clear choice for first. Deron Williams is a great PG, but he's not even teh best in teh draft. Chris Paul is. Green would go somewhere between 6 and 8, definitly not as low as 15, and what happened to Boston's 18th pick?

Sun May 01, 2005 3:32 am

cripwalken, no sean may?

and indiana picks 18 not 16, Im sure other post-lottery picks are the wrong order too, but thats the one that jumped out at me.

Sun May 01, 2005 11:35 am

I guess you can put Sean May in Boston's spot....haha....which is Indiana's spot....

Mon May 02, 2005 12:37 am

Jae, ok, lets look at this.... why not get Stackhouse? Keeping Al Harrington in mind (before he demands a trade....) Ok Jerry Stackhouse is 31 this year. Stackhouse can flat out score and isn't a terrible defender. In his last 4 healthy season's he averaged 21+ ppg. 4 rpg 5apg, For Atlanta these are AWESOME numbers. And he can still do that!

Josh Smith is 19. He can play the 2,3 & 4 spots, he's a phenominal athlete, for this 13 win with NO-ONE he got 10, 6 and 2 swats, WOW!

Josh Childress is 20-21. he can play 2,3 spots, he is also a decent athlete, for this 13 win team with NO-ONE he got 10, 6 and shot 84% from the line, WOW!

I'd also like to note they both played under 30 mpg, hmmm can't think of why that was; youth, inconsistency, jacking up shit, trying to dunk on everyone. Stackhouse presents a veteran scorer who can guide these 2 young studs, oh yes, don't get me wrong, they are good players (soon). By the time Childress & Smith are effective Stackhouse will be trying to win a championship in Texas or something, if I'm Atlanta, WHY THE HELL NOT!? Hey, maybe we can get Rudy Gay next year? they can draft Sun Ming Ming in the 2nd round, he's prolly better than Jason Collier & Obinna Ekezie anyway..... Just another way of using the first pick. I'd take Bogut too.

Mon May 02, 2005 10:09 am

I don't think the Hawks would touch Stack with a barge pole....I think they still have bad memories from a one Isaiah/JR Rider....

Mon May 02, 2005 2:04 pm

what do Jerry Stackhouse & Isaiah Rider have in common? Apart from scoring ability.....

Mon May 02, 2005 3:02 pm

You'd have to be the worst GM in the NBA to stunt the development of two ROOKIES by signing Erry Stackhouse... do I have to emphasise that more? ROOKIES... they're not going to be scoring 30ppg in their first season, 10/6 from two ROOKIES is a great effort considering they weren't the #1 and #2 pick. Veteran scoring presence? Hello Antoine Walker. That didn't really go to plan did it.

As far as Al Harrington goes, why would he demand a trade? He left Indiana because he wanted to be "the man", and that's what he's got in Atlanta. He was injured most of last season so he hasn't had a chance to prove himself. The Hawks are rebuilding, they don't see themselves making the play offs for a fair while now and with the amount of cap space they have why would they sign an ageing veteran who really isn't as great as you made him out to be on a contract that would no doubt be inflated more than it should be and taking minutes away from the franchises two young cornerstones who can either make or break the Atlanta Hawks in the future. Numbers aren't everything, and even if they were I'd take a SF straight out of high school who can average 2bpg anyday.

they can draft Sun Ming Ming in the 2nd round, he's prolly better than Jason Collier & Obinna Ekezie anyway

Oh God you're on the bandwagon

what do Jerry Stackhouse & Isaiah Rider have in common? Apart from scoring ability.....

Questionable characters.

Mon May 02, 2005 3:07 pm

exactly....you saved me the trouble of answering that question
