Lakers in the off season

Postby beau_boy04 on Sun Apr 24, 2005 9:17 am

I heard it news that they're trying to get Phil Jackson and arrangements are being made. Mitch said they are about 15-20 candidates but fill the coach vacancy for the Lakers but only about 3 legitimate coaches. Those are:
1. Phil Jackson
2. Larry Brown
3. Pat Riley

The following I got from other message forums:

-Now I think its time to trade Lamar Odom for someome else maybe Carlos Boozer from Utah?
-I heard from a friend of mine, that in yesterdays newspaper (i dont know which) there was an article talking about a possible trade for KG, involving Lamar and Devean. Can anyone back me up on this? and what do you all think about it?
-On ATH today, Jay Mariotti brought up a point about a clause in LeBron's Nike contract which states that his $90 million contract could be worth well over $100+ million if he played for certain NBA teams, namely the Knicks and Lakers. This gives him even more of an incentive to not sign with the Cavs longterm and go to either the Lakers or Knicks.
Kobe is probably already on the phone trying to recruit him.
-Kobe at SG and LeBron at SF would be insane. But to make it happen Kobe needs to re-structured his contract to make it possible.

Interesting fact - Lakers, NY, Bulls and Miami are the top selling teams in jersey of course...

Thinking about it you might believe they wont be able to co-exist on the same team meaning Lebron and Kobe. I believe they have a strong friendship and since they are the 2 best swingmen in the league - damn I guess you can only dream.

I would say Give the Cavs Odom, Grant, George, couple of first round picks, and money and if that doesn't work add C Butler to the package.

I dont think Lebron would go to LA 'cause Kobe wants the lakers to be his team, not Shaqs and certainly not lebrons. It would be a good for Lakers and Odom if they trade him.

LBJ has a salary of about 3.5m . Odom alone is earning more tha 10m a year. How are they supposed to work up a trade with matching salaries?

Laker Off-Season easy and simple..

1.They will try to trade Lamor Odom...Will it Happen...No
2.They will try to get Phil Jackson.....Will it Happen...No..New York or Ceveland..Yes
3.They will get Felton in the draft....Will it happen...Yes
4.Divac Retires?...No...Kobe's the GM he likes Divac so.....He stays
5.Laker tickets go up...Yes
Now prove me wrong because I'am human:
1.Who wants Lamor Odom contract?....on top of that who wants him period??
2.Why go for Kobe who you've had past problems with, when you can get Lebron??
3.Why not, unless the Bobcats want him?
4.Point Proven
5.Hey I live in LA and cant afford a game, they continue to go up
Lakers starting Five:
1.Raymond Felton
2.Kobe Bryant
3.Caron Butler
4.Lamor Odom
5.Chris Mihm
You can't even answer the question why you hate Kobe Bryant some much!

I think it's a bit arrogant of the Lakers to pursue Phil Jackson. They abruptly stopped negotiating an extension with him and bluntly informed him the team was going in a different direction, and now that they've had a disappointing season they're trying to get him to return? "Sorry, you're out, we're moving in a different direction...actually, how would you like to coach the team again?"

I can understand why Jackson would want to return and that there is at least a slim possibility he will return, but if I were him I wouldn't. Not when I was already financially secure, had other job prospects and was cast aside the way he was last offseason.

Well according to hoopshype every single Laker player is on the table except for Kobe. I don't expect to see alot of that team back next year except Kobe and Caron.

For the guy who said no teams wanted LO. Did you know that last year the lakers recieved trade offers for Lamar involving players such as J. Kidd, Peja and Elton Brand amoung others? He is the Lakers number one trade asset.

Expect him to suit up for another team next year.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

There is no way Phil will want to go back there, his relationship with Kobe was so straining on his life, he doesnt want to have to do it again.

Were those in the New York papers? Their was 0 news of the Clippers even wanting to trade Brand, especially for Odom who they chose to let go . I heard the Peja one though, and the Kidd one would never have gone, New Jersey is smarter than that.

The Lakers have good trade assets, they better keep Caron Butler though, but they need to be heavily shopping Odom. Odom just can't play with Kobe, and Kobe needs other scorers of shooters, not playmakers. That's the thing with Odom, he's not a scorer, it's not natural for him to play as a scorer, he's a playmaker, and can't get comfortable in the scorer role.

Phil Jackson said it a million times. He coaches "one unique player and the team around him". He coached Jordan and the Bulls, he coached Shaq and the Lakers and he would be EXTREMELY interested in coaching LaBron and the Cavs. Phil isn't going to the Knicks anytime soon... only the NY powerful media are maintaining this false rumor alive and making people believe it but Phil ins't considering it. I strongly believe this.

What's wrong with LO??? Didn't he play like an all star when he was in heat? This guy is only 26 years old, he averages a double double this season, you say that no team wants him? Have you seen any of his game? No one can stop him if he attacks the rim from the top of the key.
Did you know that Buss's daugter is Phil's girlfriend??? If he was not gonna come back, why did he come to watch Lakers game against rockets last month?

I see peja or boozer come to lakers next season...

Ditto. I have no idea why he would go to NY. Definitely not for Marbury. The only possible consideration that Jackson would go to NY is if it was his dream job to coach the Knicks.

Lamor Odom played like a allstar???LOL..And he can't be guarded when he goes to the basket???So why do you have Kobe Bryant, and the so called All-Star Lamor Odom and didn't make the playoffs???And where the trades at??Peja....heard about it never happend.....Elton Brand.....I read the LA Times never heard of it........Carlos Boozer.......I heard about it on FoxSports......never happend...I would take any of those players over Lamor...Plus I qusetion Lamor Odom heart, something a real all-star has.
And for the guy who said Lamor is good from the top of the key thats the point its not good to be one dimensional

Lamar averaged 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal last season. He has strength, he has really good passing skills, and he is way faster than a lot of the 6-10 players out there. I don't think he's an all-star, but if you consider how multi-faceted his game is, he's almost like a poor man's KG. I wouldn't mind having that on my team.....

Back in Feburary the Lakers approached the Clippers and proposed a trade package for Brand. THey also approached te Kings about Peja. In both cases Butler and George offered. Both teams told the Lakers they would do the trade but for Odom. The Nets approached the Lakers in December or Janurary. Again, to the guy who said the Nets wouldn't be that stupid. The Nets proposed the Kidd for Odom trade.

I never said that was the best source, just saying my source.I guess the GM(Kobe) didn't like those trades. You have to be out of your mind not to take Elton Brand over Lamor Odom,if you really wanna talk about a guy who's a all-star and doesn't get respect....
