kevC's recap of the Rockets-Grizzlies game (He was there!)

Postby kevC on Fri Apr 15, 2005 10:11 am

Yesterday, my friend's little sister and her cheerleading squad performed at the Grizzlies game at Toyota center so 3 of my friends and I got some cheap tickets to go see the game. Believe it or not, this was my first actual NBA game so I was very excited. It was a very exciting game as Mike Miller had his career high of 37(he was hitting everything he threw up) but the Rockets rallied led by Yao to win 100-92. Here are some of my thoughts of the game:

- I won a T-Mac celebriduck, pretty cool stuff.

- Shootarounds are quite interesting... Scott Padgett hits every single shot during shootarounds. I counted and he hit about 12 3's in a row... Clarence Weatherspoon misses lay-ups during shootarounds  ... Yao Ming practiced aginst Mike James... T-Mac didn't even bother to participate in the shootaround...

- Now to the actual game, this was Yao's night. I've never seen him in person (even though he lives <3 miles away from me) but he is HUGE. He runs up and down the court very well and really has a terrific inside presence. He was simply unstoppable against anyone the Grizzlies put on him. On the defensive end, he swatted several shots but also got into foul trouble. Also, he gets hacked ridiculously but the refs seem to be rather whistle-shy when it comes to him establishing post position (I might be biased) He also grabbed 9 boards.

- T-Mac, T-Mac, T-Mac... He is simply amazing. Although he had "only" 21 points but he's such a positive asset to the team and was efficient throughout the game. What really impressed me about him and is often overlooked is his passing. He draws two or three defenders to one side of the court and makes seemingly impossible cross court passes to find the open shooter with such ease. His court vision is outstanding (Maybe it's because he looks two ways with his cross-eyes) Also, the way he explodes into the hole was very reminiscent of MJ. He gets my vote for the best wing player in the league. On defense, moreover, he showed dominance on Shane Battier. He also swatted a jumpshot that brought the crowd to its feet.

- The aforementioned Mike Miller had an amazing night. He hit everything he threw up and at times it seemed like he couldn't miss. Unfortunately his team lost and his defense was rather sub-par.

- Pau Gasol is a pussy. Yes, I said it. He complains about every single call or no-call and he flops excessively. I yelled "Pau, don't complain and go back to Spain!"(OMG IT RHYMES!) but he probably couldn't hear me as I was in the nose-bleeder section.

- The closing moments of the game was quite exciting. The Grizzlies rallied to overcome a 16 point deficit and closed within one but in the final minute, Rockets proved superior as Mike James hit a 3 and T-Mac made his free throws. It was 98-92 with a few seconds left in Rockets possession when for some reason the Grizzlies fouled T-Mac with .3 seconds left. The crowd was cheering for the 100 points because in Houston there is a promotion where if the Rockets score 100+ or hold the opponents to less than 80 at home McDonald's gives away a free Big-Mac for the ticket stub. T-Mac calmly made both FT's and the crowd went crazy. (I got the free Big-Mac today :D).

- Rockets won: 100-92 F (48-31)

All in all, it was a great experience for me and hopefully I can grab some play-off tickets next

If only Mike Miller could score in DOSL the same way he did in that game

Seems like a pretty fun experience. Hope I'll be able to watch an NBA game someday...

what's a celebriduck anyway?

Wow that must of been really fun! Congrats on your T-Mac celebriduck and your Big Mac! In Toronto, if the Raptors score 100 points, you get free pizza!

shootarounds

Postby COOLmac© on Fri Apr 15, 2005 2:01 pm

very cool!!!!!!!!!yay we won
anyways star players usually never bother to even go to shoot arounds...wonder why :?:

in my playing days...i always arrive late and just took my time stretching and talking to few poeple around the court...i never bother to take time to shootarounds...maybe because i consider it a waste of energy, the extra shooting will take toll in my arms as i have a fair amount of shots in a game...up to 21 shots per game (Y)

actually i elect not to be in the draft  j/k

there were three of us......the other guy gets away wit about 27 shots the other 18 shots.....so i guess i was a bit of a ballhog....i average about 16-18ppg in college days  which suck since i get to shoot 21 shots per page......but the 2 championship i won as a player can't deny the fact that we were playing as a team........

EDIT: no that was no NCAA nor UAAP basketball....it wa just inter department basketball league, you know ENGINEERING vs.COMMERCE vs.LAW vs.MEDICINE type of league.....my only professional experience in bball was in elementary

I wish people wouldn't make duplicate threads at .org and the NLSC, but either ways, going to an NBA game would be cool.

There was a pro elementary league????!!! lol Law vs. Medicine... the Law students would keep arguing with every call, while the Medicine students would always stop the clock to put their glasses back on.

yeah it was crazy.....different departments=different attitudes.......of course the engineering departments always kick ass since we are mostly men.....the most gayest department would be the computer science or the art of sciences department..they just suck very bad...mostly geeks/nerds/noobs, the only good side are fine women (Y) ......

about the elementary league....i beleive it's called pewee leagues in other places

Just for the record, KevC: Please don't use third person for your topic, we (ONYX... and... that's it) don't want that.

It was a good game between the Rockets and Grizzlies. I thought the Grizzlies had many oppurtunities to take the lead when they were down by 1, but they couldn't connect on shots. Miller was unstoppable in the game and I wasn't really impressed with the Rockets play. They didn't play as well as I thought they were playing such as being unstoppable. I'm just hoping Memphis can win their game today against the Nuggets or the Twolves lose because right now I just want one win or the Twolves to lose.
