Trade rumours envolving Memphis, Atlanta

Postby Bill Russell on Fri Feb 14, 2003 4:10 am

I was watching cable TV while having lunch, there was this brazilian program about NBA... The so-called expert said there's a trade n the works... I dunno if it's true, because I looked at the other sites (ESPN, TSN, CNNSI, Slam Magazine), and nobody seemed to mention it... It envolves the Grizzlies and the Hawks... He said something like Terry, Glover and Ratliff for Giricek, Battier, Knight and Gooden... I dunno if the salaries match, or if the guy was tripping... I dunno if it will really happens... :?

My bad, it's Swift instead of Gooden.

It doesn't really sound like a trade Jerry West would agree to, but I guess we just have to wait for further reports that confirm one way or another whether the talks are genuine.

That trade would solve the Hawks problems at the point and give the Grizz some interior defense and outside scoring.
The Grizz would look good on paper with
C-Ratliff
PF-Gasol
SF-Gooden (switch with Gasol)
SG-Terry
PG-Williams

The Hawks would lot weaker on paper, but the trade would give more shots to Reef and Robinson.
C-Swift (Small, but who else will start, maybe Nazr.)
PF-Reef
SF-Robinson
SG-Battier or Giricek
PG-Knight

My bad, it's Swift instead of Gooden.

Thought so. Jerry West has said that Gooden and Gasol are the only untouchables on the Grizz.

Fortson and Folye for Coleman

who would get better deal
i think sixers, coz fortson isnt exactly old and if givin minutes could be come a very productive player like he was before he got injured(i think he only played 12 games though)

I'd like to see how contracts play a role here, otherwise I don't like it.

Yes, I heard that as well, but they would need to include someone else with Spree and they are asking for Thomas, I don't see it happening that way.

I hope the Warriors keep Foyle... He's valuable as a backup center... About Fortson, I think his style of play is not suited for the West... If he goes to the right team, he could be a good player... Kenny Thomas was a steal for Philadelphia... He was good last season for the Rockets... I think he could a George Lynch/Tyrone Hill clone if given the time... The Sixers sorely lack those kinda role players to complement AI...
