Nash had 27 points and 10 assists and directed the offense down the stretch as the Suns held on for a 113-107 victory over the Magic, who moved to the 9th spot in the playoff race for the 8th spot. Jim Jackson had a season-high 27 points and 7 assists and Quentin Richardson scored 21 points for the Suns (52-17), who bounced back from Friday's loss at Miami and kept their number one seed in the league.
"These are games you would like to have to give yourself a chance to get the best record," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "From that standpoint, we were looking at it as though we needed to win this one." As has been the case all season, they were led by Nash, the All-Star point guard who makes all the right decisions. He helped Phoenix build an 14-point advantage midway through the fourth quarter, then nursed it to the final buzzer. "We really didn't show up at all in the first half," Nash said. "We really challenged ourselves at halftime to try and close the trip out right. I thought we saw a big change in our attitude in the second half." Nash scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, including two free throws for a 100-95 lead with 4:28 left. His penetration and pass set up Jim Jackson for a three pointer that made it 108-102 with 1:05 to go.
"I've been asked questions referring to him (Nash) as MVP," Magic interim coach Chris Jent said. "That's what MVPs do; they carry their teams. That's the mark of a great player." After a free throw by Orlando's rookie Jameer Nelson, Nash made one of his four three pointers with 42 seconds left. lol, mccarty usually provide the scoring load for me off the bench, but he sucked in that game.

In what may have been a preview of a possible first-round playoff matchup, the Suns improved to 3-0 against the Nuggets, who entered the contest in the 8th spot. "Hopefully this kills a bit of their confidence," said Suns G/F Quentin Richardson, who made 8-of-15 shots and scored 20 points. "I was talking to (Andre) Miller after the game and he said he hopes they play us in the first round and my question was, 'Why? We beat you three times and tonight we beat you without one of our starters.' I didn't get an answer."
After Earl Boykins' layup with 3:45 remaining pulled the Nuggets within 95-93, Jackson and Nash combined for the last 10 points in an 10-6 run as the Suns took over down the stretch, looking very much like a team fighting for the NBA's best record.
