Orlando’s Francis Suspended

NEW YORK, March 19 --Orlando’s Steve Francis has been suspended indefinitely without pay for kicking a photographer during last night’s game at Seattle, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Senior Vice President, Basketball Operations. The length of the suspension will be determined following further investigation. Francis will miss tonight's game against Portland.
The incident occurred with 8:57 remaining in the fourth quarter of Orlando’s 98-90 loss to the Sonics at Key Arena.

I wish I could've seen this incident, but never heard about it until now. Anybody know exactly what happened?

Look, he pulled a Dennis Rodman!

Sun Mar 20, 2005 12:46 pm

Indefinitely? Well, if Rodman is the precedent he'll likely miss 11 games, which would be all but six of the games left on Orlando's schedule.

that's weird...should look for a video..

Sun Mar 20, 2005 2:42 pm

Looks like Orlando's playoff chances are over.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 2:48 pm

yeah, never heard that either.. maybe it was a minor incident. I'm wondering where he kicked the photographer.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 3:10 pm

did he have a reason for kicking the photographer? (the link doesnt work on my computer if it answers that question.)

the thing that made the rodman incident so fuckin hilarious is that he did it for absolutly no reason whatsoever!  if my memory serves me correct, he did it when the bulls were winning too!!!

Sun Mar 20, 2005 3:12 pm

Andrew if we've learnt anything about precedents and suspensions after the artest incident. Its that previous suspension length aren't used as a guide.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 3:21 pm

That's true. I suppose it's probably more accurate to suggest at least 11 games, if not the rest of the year. Rodman clearly kicked the cameraman in the groin though, whereas Francis is denying he made deliberate contact.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 3:55 pm

Obviously it wasn't that bad for the camera man to have to tell an official. The way Rodman kicked the cameraman before was obviously easy to see. So I'm wondering if Francis kicked him like a little touch kick or kicked him like Rodman kicked him. I'm kind of feeling the first one.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 4:09 pm

"He threw my legs down, man. That was it," Francis said Friday night. "No. Uh, uh. I don't know what happened."

Looks like it won't be 11 games

Sun Mar 20, 2005 8:24 pm

He's feelin' way too important the last couple of months.

Sun Mar 20, 2005 11:20 pm

Rodman made his victim unconscious for a few mins too.....I'll say he'll get 6 games.

Mon Mar 21, 2005 12:18 am

Rodmana victim was a liar!~ (N)

Mon Mar 21, 2005 5:18 am

Did anybody really see this or did the photographer just say it?
If there's no video footage or witnesses then they should let it be.

Tue Mar 22, 2005 10:15 pm

Francis suspended three games

The two games he's already missed will count towards his suspension.

Wed Mar 23, 2005 4:50 am

So from what it sounds like from the Magic head coach, Steve did kick him... but I haven't seen any video footage.

Wed Mar 23, 2005 1:33 pm

3 games isn't bad..still don't know the reason why he "kicked" the cameraman though
