BrokenWings wrote:VC, how can you say you like him more? That is not what you should be doing as an athlete, talking to other teammates like everything's all chummy. That was his biggest problem in Toronto. He's not there to compete, he's there to socialize. Even when the Raptors were down by like 20, he'd be over there on the other team's bench joking with Shaq and smiling. That is not what a competitor does. If your head is truly in the game, you're out there in your own zone playing basketball, not talking about your weekend with the family.

ok so anyway i go down to watch this game and its close between NJ and NO. then its just funny to watch how horrendous this team is. i dunno how much time was on the clock but p.j. brown bricked a shot and chris anderson got a lucky put back as he fell to the floor and smashed his dome on the ground. he jus laid there for like 20 seconds. then he got up and started doing pushups... like wtf hes so stupid. he got a frikkin putback to tie the game and did about 5 pushups right there on the court thinkin hes cool
then with 8 seconds left tie game 77-77 speedy claxton doesnt know what hes doing so he tries to get past kidd and cant so he gets rid of it and throws it to nachbar. nachbar heaves up the semi-open 3 and bricks it pretty badly... goes to overtime
later on its a 4 point nets lead in OT and nachbar hits a lucky ass ugly 3. then nets miss and next possession p.j. brown hits this pathetic ugly shot where his arm jus stretched out to the left... it was soooo lucky but it somehow went in... and the 15 or so fans in the stadium got up and started cheering.
so nets down 1 with 30 sec... carter takes a quick jumper misses... jarron collins gets the rebound, gets fouled. goes to line for 2 misses both, gets his how board... then tries to go back up but gets SWATTED by chris anderson. kidd grabs the ball with 5 seconds left and in the mean time anderson is standing there in his after-swat pose acting like hes a superstar... little did he kno that there was still 5 seconds left on the clock. so kidd comes right at him draws the foul hits the shot and the FT... nets up 2. andersons a frikkin idiot...
then wit 2.5 seconds left j.r. smith gets the inbound and gets fouled while shooting the 3 by kidd. he goes to the line for 3 for a chance to win it. he misses the first FT. he misses the 2nd FT. he tries to miss the 3rd FT which was the only way to giv his team a chance to win and he makes it off the glass. then carter jus threw it up and nets won.
it was so horrendous... chris anderson especially... and bostjan nachbar and j.r. smith being the go-to-guys from 3 in OT and end of regulation is sad.
i think the worst part of it all is wen i saw the replay of one of anderson's dunks... where he dunked it and swung around. u kno "spider" from the and1 mix tape tour? he always hangs onto the rim and twists his body up onto the rim and it looks cool. well anderson tried to do something like that and it looked so gay... then runnin down the court he did this motion wit his hands. supposedly its his dunk called "the birdman."
damn that guy is patheticly bad. the only cool thing i saw from this game is afterwards VC ran up to j.r. smith and gav him some words of encouragement... and it looked like he really meant it. also vince was so happy after the game tlakin to the nets reporters... hes cool im beginnin to like him more
You know they won the game right? Even if they lost, I think it's always a good thing for older players to encourage younger guys coming into the league. JR Smith was very dejected after the game as anyone would when they miss 2 free throws, and then make the one then have to miss, so I don't see any problem with it.
Vince has always been like that though, the thing is that none of the Raptors fans or media complained about it till the team began losing. In his earlier years, it was good sportsmanship, and him just making light of the situation when he congratulated opponents even after losses, but the last few seasons, it was him not caring about winning.

And that's when it starts to become a problem. Okay, I agree it's fine to give young players like JR advice after they lose a game like that. But note, the Nets WON. Back in Toronto, he was losing and still smiling after games and talking to the other team's players. Is that the type of player you want on your basketball team? I want a competitor, not mr. social. What could you POSSIBLY be saying to the other team after a loss, or when you're down by 20. "Haha, how about my Raptors. Man, are we ever terrible." While you're losing in the middle of a game, you should be playing your own game and focussing on what you could be doing to win the game. He wasn't always like that, that's a lie. Back in his first three seasons I would say, he was a competitor. Against former teammate Tracy Mcgrady, he said a couple nice words at the beginning of the game, and kept his game face after tip-off. Not a single word, he played his game.

I even remember him saying one time that his game face is a smile. Like I said, no one notices those things when everything is fine, when things go bad is when people start to pick at an possible faults they can find in a player.
It's just like some players, everything is fine, but when the team starts to lose, is when their true colours begin to show. Like how guys only complain about minutes and shots when the team starts to lose. I'm talking about players that play like 28 minutes, but normally would play 35 or so, not someone playing 10 MPG on a winning team, no one would really enjoy that. It's the exact same with fans and media, when things are bad is when things that no one cared about before start to matter.
BrokenWings wrote:No, you're not getting the point. Yes, he smiled after a good play, or when his team is up. And he did that frequently in the older days, because the Raptors were winning. THAT is a reason to smile. Are trying to tell me that it is okay to talk to the other team and joke with other team members while your team is losing?? Stop trying to make it like Carter is the "victim"... he is not. He deserved all the criticism. He was not serious as a player in Toronto. He didn't believe in practices. He had no strive to win during his later years here. And socializing with other players during a game in which he is losing is a reflection of his lack of commitment to Toronto. Want more proof? How about his confession when he moved to New Jersey saying how he could have tried harder when he was playing in Toronto. Come on, don't be blind.
