LeBron and Carmelo

Postby Amphatoast on Mon Mar 07, 2005 2:53 pm

Will these 2 ever be on the same page?
Last year Lebron was a loser, Carmelo a winner.
First half this year, Lebron a winner, Carmelo a loser.

Right now Cavs 6 game losing streak ( baby bulls time to rise!)
Nuggets 6 game winning streak ( knock knock lakers!)

Individually I think LeBron is always going to be superior to Carmelo, when you look at the teams aswell Denver is technically a better team (arguably) so if you swapped places I think the situations would be vastly different... but yeah I find it unlikely that they'll be on the 'same page', although it's possible that Carmelo could end up being traded or signing with a winning team where he won't get as many minutes/shots but will get more wins.

if you stick melo on the cavs, they'd do a lot worse. remember that the cavs have no true pg (to pair up with lebron, snow has no 3pt range), and sometimes lebron has to fill in. i'm gonna predict melo's the next spree.

last year and this year bron is better than melo in every category. teamwise, denver was the winner last year. the cavs are the winners this year.

melo has a better supporting cast than lebron, but i can see that changing in the next few years. cleveland will be a good place to land FAs.

Jeff McInnis has done just fine playing point, and just because Snow has no 3pt range doesn't make him a true point. Makes him more of a ture poiont since he doesn't spend his tiem jacking up three's.

And yes Bron is better, next question.

mcinnis is a shoot-first PG. bron needs a pass-first PG. snow doesn't have 3pt range, so he doesn't compliment bron very well because bron doesn't have a 3pt shot either.

Did you see all those alley-oops McInnis threw to LeBron last year? Did you see how their record shot up after the acquisition of McInnis, then back down when he was injured. Jeff fit with them very well.

Hes changed......when he played for the Blazers he was a shoot-first PG...even his clipper days he distributed the ball well n was a key in that teams playoff push(though it failed)......hes not at all a shoot first PG anymore....if he was the Cavs wouldnt be doin so well.....hes been a key reason for the Cavs winning....since he joined the team they've won way more than they lost....

Wade has shaq, and wade is no way better then Lebron.

The thing about Melo is, he will always be compared to lebron, and that will make 99% of the nba players look bad. It would be like comparing Karl Malone to Jordan, and saying "malone isnt so good, MJ kicks the shit out of him". It's totally unfair. What makes the comparisons even worse is Lebron was picked before Melo, so there isnt any real suprises here: lebron was sposed to be better. Carmelo isnt far behind though, and i would take him over wade if i had the choice.

if Karl trades him, hes a stupid fuck.....Melo is the key reason the Nuggets have turned around their tag of shit franchise to up and coming (y)

Well, so far in this second half of the season, ever since George Karl took over, the Nuggets are winning a lot of games, and the Cavs are on a mini-slump right now. Let's see how long that'll last.

McInnis played SG on the Blazers, Damon Stoudemire was PG.

McInnis is a fairly decent pass first PG, and can also hit from the outside Snow has no 3PT range, but neither does Andre Miller. Earl Boykins also isn't as good a shooter as Jeff McInnis from outside.

Wade is much better than Carmelo right now, and could be right there with Lebron because he's far ahead of him on man to man defense, but 4.2 turnovers a game just aren't going to cut it, he needs to bring that way down. Also he's 2-3 years older than Lebron, so that's a factor. I felt Wade was there with them last season if not for injuries, I said his PPG would've been 18-19 PPG and 48-50% FG last season if he had remained healthy. Wade having Shaq as an argument is not that good, he plays better with Shaq on the bench [they run the break more and the lane opens up more], played very well when Shaq was injured, and already showed his capablities in the playoffs last season.

Overall the Nuggets have a better team, but they've had injuries, and also don't have any players who can spread the floor, though the Cavs don't have any either. Maybe Jiri Welsch can fill that position at some point, but Voshon Lenard going down was a big hit to the Nuggets in that area.

Lebron will always be the better player, he just has more overal skills and athleticism, and he's already better now, and still has more potential, so Carmelo is screwed there. Team wise in the future, who knows, but this off-season, if the Cavs can get someone nice at SG, Lebron will take that one too.

I get the feeling that Melo will never get a ring, whereas LeBron, it's only a matter of WHEN and not if.

i think the cavs need a SG who can actually shoot :P

james needs to win a playoff series first before any ring talk :P
but seriously, ilgauskas i think may be the key here. this guy's already in his 30's and up for a contract. do the cavs give him the multi year max contract?!?! it's great he's been able to avoid the foot problems but it's gotta be concern for jim paxson anyway. it can turn potentially into grant hill/orlando magic pre 2005 situation.

also james will probably hitting his prime when ilgauskas (assuming he's resigned) will be on the decline and other then drafting james, jim paxson's moves have been spotty

just something to consider :P

mcinnis is decent, but not good enough to compliment james. james gets more assists than mcinnis anyway. i guess paxson dealt with the first major hole in shooting by getting jiri welsch. miller plays better defense than mcinnis. i think boykins isn't as effective as mcinnis as an outside shooter is because of his height. it's much harder for him to get the open shot.

It's not like he'd do that if he went back there, though I like Dre', the more seasons he stays under 7 APG, the more if shows that it was a fluke year, and he was just being allowed to severely dominate the ball.

I would take Wade over Carmelo anyday. It's obvious that Lebron has more talent then Carmelo, but I think Wade is right up there with Lebron. If i had the choice I would take Lebron 1st round, yes... but I wouldn't take Melo over Wade. Wade is a strong 6'4 PG. He's amazingly athletic (not as much as Lebron but still very), and hes a clutch player. Last year in his rookie year he proved his worth when he was playing at ease in the clutch (in the playoffs mind you). I forgot which team it was against (Indiana or Milwaukee) when he hit the running 3 foot lay-in at the buzzer to win a playoff game. He's always been a winner and I would love to have him on my team. Also I completely agree with fgrep15 that using Shaq as an excuse is bullshit. When Shaq goes to the bench Miami still continues to dominate, and Wade's numbers go up. Why do you think that Shaq averages such a low # of minutes this year? He has so many 20-30 minute games, not because he's injured, but because his team is blowing the other team out. And Shaq isn't loading up with the scoring, only getting 22.7 per game. Granted thats good but it's not the reason that Miami puts teams away. The reason is Wade. He also sees the court amazingly well and averages 5 (i think) rebounds along with 7+ assists, steals, and over 1 block per game.

Overall great defender, great driver, clutch player... and he's developed a very consistent mid range jumper that he hits all the time now. I'd rather have that then Carmelo whose not as athletic, slower, not as clutch, not a good defender, and not able to score at will. If you watch Miami games you notice that if Wade wants to score he will score 7/10 times, and will get to the basket 99/100 times. Most of the times he gets the foul call. Melo can't do that at will, thats the big difference.

That was against New Orleans

Also I'm happy you talked about his mid-range jumpshot, I was hoping someone else would say it, but Wade's mid-range jumpshot has become so good latley, not many people are really taking notice, but he's been hitting them so well the past month.
