Alonzo to Miami finally done

Wed Mar 02, 2005 4:49 am

MIAMI -- Alonzo Mourning and the Miami Heat finally are together again.

Mourning signed a contract Tuesday and practiced with the team in Miami, where he spent eight seasons -- a stint twice interrupted by kidney disease. He's expected to make about $325,000 for the rest of the season, based on a prorated share of the $1.1 million minimum veteran contract.

Mourning may be in uniform Thursday when Miami visits New Jersey. He averaged 10.4 points and 7.1 rebounds in 18 games for the Nets earlier this season.

Mourning

To clear space for the seven-time All-Star, Miami waived forward Wesley Person, who had played only 27 minutes since Dec. 4 and was displeased with his diminished role.

 hurray for Alonzo, after screwing us he gets to go to his contender

Wed Mar 02, 2005 5:10 am

considering how he is playing with the kidney and all i think its fair for hm to go to a contender at this stage of his career.

I loved the article in SLAM in 2000 or 2001 about him, interview or something. Man has really suffered hard, and respect for going on and trying harder each and every day.

i agree. especially after all he has done for the league for so long. he was a great guy for the NBA, i dont think it would be fair for him to play for the raps or any other non-contending team in probably his last or second to last season.

i'd like to see zo start by his 3rd game..

will we ever see a shaq-zo starting lineup? (Y)

probably not. still can wonder though..

Zo has a funny voice

Mourning
O'Neal
Laettner

1, 2, and 3 overall picks on the same team. Who would have thought that would happen?

Wed Mar 02, 2005 11:00 am

why did they have to waive wesley person, he's a good 3 pt shooter

Wed Mar 02, 2005 11:04 am

Oh yeah!!!!!
What a nice frontcourt we will have now!!

He'd fallen out of the rotation...besides, they've just acquired Steve Smith, so they'll still have a good veteran shooter off the bench.

why u guna shoot him???
im sure the rpators arep laying better since vince went???
im not to sure, but rose has been awesome.

You'd be pissed too if you got a sack of potatoes for Vince Carter, ESPECIALLY with the way he's playing right now. What a waste of trade value.

Good news for Zo and the Miami Heat. I'm glad to see Zo back in Heat uniform after his haelth issues I have always respected Zo and hope he and the Miami heat end the season well and tear it up in the playoffs.

Still doesn't justify trading for garbage, even if you play better, that doesn't mean you still didn't trade for garbage, and we're been at home more anyways, stupid Babcock, and he also didn't trade Donyell at the deadline because he likes him

Eric Williams doesn't play, Aaron Williams doesn't play, and Alonzo Mourning never came to Toronto. Then Philly's pick is getting less valuable each day, and Denver's pick is for next year, so if they make the playoffs it's really nothing special then.

"Starting at guard, the poster formerly known as Matt, 'from' detroit, RIIIIIIIIIIP, the Shep, Hamilton!"

Fgrep, You're excatly right. Even if a trade is addition by subtraction, you dont deal away your most talented player for nothing.

dont be pissed at him, be pissed at carter for forceing the trade. the guy was fakeing injuries and playing half assed to force toronto to move him

Thu Mar 03, 2005 10:00 am

Even at that stage, GM's around the league knew Carter wasn't playing, but also wasn't being utilized to his full ability on the Raptors, and that he was a much better player than that. He was also only playing 30 MPG. Also players can't fake injuries, you need medical clearance to be considered injured. Many GM's said they were very surprised at the move, and it has been said many times that word around the league is that Babcock is a soft GM.

We'll see, he's not on a good path right now, but maybe he can do some good things in the draft, and posibly in the market. Though the Raps ability to draw free agents isn't high at all, especially right now with all the problems that have gone down inside the team with players, not being a definate playoff team, haven't had much success lately, and also the whole Canada thing.

i think that's an understatement. i don't know whether he has a trick up his sleeve or something, but those picks he got in the carter trade better turn out good.

and the past toronto coaches (wilkens, kevin o'neill, and now sam mitchell) imo aren't very wise decisions. a team with such good offense in bosh, rose, peterson, marshall and speed in palacio, alston, bosh (for a PF) should be putting up 100+ points every night.

it seems everytime we let a player go they turn out great (christie, mcgrady, stoudemire).... think about the backcourt toronto would've had if they kept them all.

another note, i don't get why araujo starts, plays for 10 minutes and sits the rest of the game. i think he's got great hustle and size. he should be able to put in 25-30 solid minutes.

just my 2 cents.

Araujo fouls too much most of the time, that's why he sits, and also we gotta get Marshall in to hit his 2-4 three's a game, and grab some boards.
