this is seriously something players seem to be doin more often when they want out.....
ex's are Vince Carter and Baron Davis, both of them had injuries....but after being traded they've been magically healed.....I mean VC is back to his happy days n B-Diddy who barely played a game for the hornets played for the Warriors tonite....I dont get it...
I mean they ask for a trade out and then they go so low as to faking an injury just so they dont have to play n that'll increase the managements pursuit of a trade.
Im sure theirs alot of players that have done this...but Carter n Davis r two of the most noticeable for me....

Glenn Robinson is another guy who's basically sitting out the season on the injured list due to a contract dispute.
I'm not sure if guys like Vince and Davis are really faking injuries, though perhaps they're sitting out some games citing injuries that mostly they would play through, but weren't inclined to given they weren't happy with the situation they were in.

Baron was still playing for the Hornets before the trade...
Now he came to Warriors and played a few minutes, but he didn't start. Fisher still had the starting job, so obviously he isn't at full health.

Or maybe Fish is better... (Jokes!)
Umm.. im postivie VC was genuinely hurt though!

Alonzo Mourning didn't want to report to Toronto but he definitely could have played.
Tue Mar 01, 2005 12:35 am
injury or not VC was slacking off because he wanted out and thats just shitty imo. if you ask me it just proves VC has no heart at all.

and wat was with Grant Hill...scared from T-mac
well u can see that some of the players are real assholes, like ''traitor'' t-mac

Well, as long as we have love for the guys who play through injury its all good! Players like AI!

Hill was fighting off a career ending ankle injury. Tmac was the coward who ran away instead of sticking around. Grant Hill's story is one of the best in nba history, i take my hat off to him.

As much as I admire players toughing out injuries, I think that sometimes players need to sit. Take Grant Hill for example. I don't claim to have insider knowledge or be an expert on medicine and surgery, but I can't shake the feeling he came back too soon after the original injury and resulting surgery, before he was really ready for the NBA grind.

Vince didn't fake an injury, he was on the IL for the first few games as a Net, the first game after he joined the Nets, they played the Raptors, and he didn't play due to injury.
Baron also didn't fake his injury, he was actually injured. He actually played one game with New Orleans after returning from injury befor he got traded, he's had back problems for the past 3 years.
McGrady's case, he had an injury, but it was an injury where he could play through, or could sit out, and he elected to sit out due to the teams situation.
Alonzo Mourning can always use the injury excuse because no doctor in their right mind would actually clear him to play with a kidney injury. He's basically playing agaisnt doctors orders anyways.
You really can't fake injuries because if you're injured you get checked by trainers to confirm your injury, I don't understand why people think players can just say I'm injured out of nowhere, and sit out games

Why do people have to make up injuries in order for them to get on IR. Like if you have a team with 15 healthy players, they just give an injury to that player so they can put him on IR? You must can't put nobody on IR if they don't have no type of clarification of injury?
Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:51 pm
Well that's the rule, but teams do place players who probably could be playing on the IR, mainly because they are only allowed 12 active players.

Yea that's the only time they make up injuries, but that's the team that does that for IR players. If anything is hurting, you just make up an injury for that part of the body.

Situations can affect whether a played injured or not decides to play.
Shaq sits out games he doesn't necessarily have to to rest up so he'll be ready come Playoffs time. He's been knowing for doing this back to the Laker days.
And the Suns have been resting Nash sporadicly so he'll be ready come Playoffs time too.
No one would question their hearts.

thats why there are so many groin injuries?

Haha, I always wondered what was up with all the groin injuries.
Sat Mar 05, 2005 1:31 pm
to quote a hillbilly, "I don't like it!!!"
but in reality, faking injuries (sickness) extends into everyone's lives....you can't tell me that you haven't faked a sickie because you didn't want to go into work....although I've only done it once or twice, it is still a similar situation....if you aren't happy with your situation (like the players), you take time off....however, unfortunately we gotta provide doctor's certificates and only get 8 days off a year....NBA players still get paid
I think they need to implement a no play, no pay policy for NBA....you don't play, you don't get paid....of course this would be contingent on the player being physically able to play without risk of further injury....

He actually had a recurring groin injury, he just kept re-aggrevating the same injury, because he constantly tried to play through the injury, or come back when he wasn't ready. You can't just say coach I'm injured I'm not going to play, or go to the GM and say you're injured
If you're injured the trainers will check to make sure it's a legit injury. Before you play you'd have to get clearance from a doctor, or you can be told you're 80-90% healthy and decide to play without being fully healthy, but if you're not cleared by a doctor, you don't have to play.
If players aren't fully cleared, they can elect whether or not they can play themselves. What would be the point of him coming back early from an injury to play on a Hornet team that is definately not going to make the playoffs? He's going to maybe hurt his career long term, or be injured for next season so they can get 25 instead of 20 wins?
