Retirement iminent for the Mailman?

Wed Jan 26, 2005 11:41 am

It seems so...Article.

Karl Malone will decide on his future in the next week or two and is moving closer to retirement, his agent, Dwight Manley, said Monday.

Malone is physically in great shape, Manley said, and has been at home in Newport Beach since returning from a recent trip to Mexico. A decision is forthcoming, to "get this thing figured out one way or the other," Manley said.

Insert your own punchline here...

After Malone opted out in the offseason my guess was that he'd retire; that remains my prediction.

Why would you want to retire when you are so close to being #1 on the ALL TIME SCORING LIST?
I wouldnt hesitate one minute

He'd have to play another season after this one. I believe he'd have to average over 30 points per game the rest of the way to break the record this season.

yea i saw that article on nba.com
now there is another one where he is "talking" with the Nuggets :?:

Do you mean this one? That's George Karl, not Karl Malone. ;)

We all know he's the O.G. of the NBA.

Fri Jan 28, 2005 12:30 pm

Still, I think he should just sign with the Spurs for only half the season plus playoffs and finally get his ring. He didn't wait a couple decades for nothing!

Fri Jan 28, 2005 1:25 pm

guess he isnt going to get his Larry O'Brien after all....poor guy...oh well maybe him and his wifre Miss Stockon can comeback as Head-Assistant Coaches for some team and look to get a title that way.

Fri Jan 28, 2005 6:05 pm

i would want to see him go to the suns to start at pf...move marion to sf, q-rich come off the bench...they should also push the walter mcarty deal through...then you really couldnt question their depth.
that could be a good possibility of a championship...

Fri Jan 28, 2005 10:19 pm

call me stupid and someone probally will but i thought Malone already retired before this year, because hes not playing right now...

Fri Jan 28, 2005 10:54 pm

Not really, he's a free agent if you get into details. I don't think he's filed the needed papers as yet. Plus he is talking here & there so you can't call him MJ-like retired just yet.

Sat Jan 29, 2005 1:29 am

Well you can call him MJ-Retired if you take into account MJs first two retirements ;)

Malone would be an excellent addition to the Wizards.

Mon Jan 31, 2005 5:49 am

I still think the only way he comes back is if he plays with the Heat. There he will have a chance to start at PF while not having to play heavy minutes with Haslem coming off the bench, and he has a chance to get his ring.

Plus the fact that he and Shaq are so close, but you never know.

Yes, he would. He would also be an excellent addition to the Heat, Spurs, Mavs, Rockets, Wolves, Pacers, Suns, Knicks, Raptors, Boston, etc. etc. ;)

Mon Jan 31, 2005 9:57 am

Heat don't really need him. Haslem is breaking out, plus Laettner is playing well. I guess he could come off the bench. Haslem is 12 and 9, not too bad.

Mon Jan 31, 2005 10:13 am

It's time. he shouldn't try to drag out his career like Jordan did. The first comeback was okay, but the Wizards comeback was going too far.

Mon Jan 31, 2005 11:19 am

The Spurs dont need him.....their winning non-stop so they dont need him to come in and cause a big ass loosing streak.

Mon Jan 31, 2005 6:46 pm

how about yao and Tmac? will they be better with a mail man in HOuston?

Mon Jan 31, 2005 7:50 pm

i think Malone is done with ball hogging players

Mon Jan 31, 2005 8:03 pm

Karl Malone is dead. (Y)

Tue Feb 01, 2005 6:25 am

it would be funny if the nba's system for claiming players off the wire in the middle of the season was similar to MLB. in baseball, opposing teams can cock block their opponents by claiming players who they think their opposition will sign

can you imagine a team like indiana doing that to miami? or new jersey doing the same to detroit? haha
