I read in the paper over here.. i was surprised it was in the sports section, but it had an article on Bogut. It said he has decided he'll bypass two years of college and become eligible for NBA draft...
Apparently he is having a fantastic year and is averagiong 20 and 12... also, he played a game recently against a highly rated college dude- cant rember the name and had like 30 and 18 or something big like that to lead Utah to the Win with 20+ NBA scouts in the crowd...
Can someone confrim all of this???

They are predicting he will be the number 1 draft pick
Tue Jan 18, 2005 11:06 am
good news for australian bball.
Tue Jan 18, 2005 2:53 pm
I think he's wise to take the "Luc Longley" route to the NBA. Luc has been the most successful Australian NBA player so far, and the only one so far to have entered the league via the draft having never played in the NBL. He not only stands a good chance of ending up on a team that can/must give him a lot of PT, but he'll also have gone through the American system which I'm sure will make him a much more appealing choice.

nbadraft.net says the #1 rumors are ridiculous and it's more likely he'll go 7-15.
anyways, i hope his drafting does good for NBA bball in Aus, i mean, look at Germany...they had Shrempf in the NBA so they played heaps of Sonics games and now they play heaps of Mavs games....maybe. against all odds this will happen in Aus
Tue Jan 18, 2005 7:52 pm
Nbadraft.net is also a crap site for mock drafts and scouting reports.
They compare every sg who can run and jump as the next michael jordan.
Tue Jan 18, 2005 7:53 pm
well, personally i doubt that someone will take a gamble on another foreigner with the #1 pick....Kandi= failure, Ming= big underachiever

But bogut looks to be teh real deal, and he couldn't do worse then kwame.
Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:12 pm
On the other hand, big bastards keep on going high in the draft whether they can play or not. At least Bogut has shown some evidence of playing ability, so maybe there is a team out there who'd risk a #1 on him.
Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:26 pm
Chris Paul, Chris Taft and Marvin Williams will fight it out for top spots....I don't think Bogut is a No. 1 draft pick....that being said, I think he can crack the top 5 with good workouts....he just needs a little bit of an NCAA run, a couple of good workouts, and the hype machine will do the rest....
good to see that an Aussie will be back in the NBA....it was getting a little hard to see the Kiwis take all the glory

What the Aus papers are saying is no where near true, I think Bogut should get picked in the top 10 but number 1 is a little too high dont you think ?

Apparentely the #1 talk was direct from a Western Conference guy of some form... who knows if he'll go number 1, the way he's playing this season seems to suggest it might be a good idea. He's a horrible interior defender though, that'll come out in the long run.

Especially in the NBA, hes going to need to improve his defense a lot.

both however were great college players and they played for great teams

Andrew Bogut is a great college player at the moment. According to reports. Not as good as those two but he's doing well.

I find it funny how only Austrlians predict he'll go number 1 and they say every site that says he doesn't sucks... they're good numbers, but if eg. Okafor wouldn't have been at UConn, but a much smaller college with less talented players around (UConn is overloaded) he would've had better stats too.

^^^exactly.....Bogut plays for Utah (?).....i'd like to see him post 20 & 12 on MSU, Duke, UConn, Georgia, Syracus or other big time teams
Wed Jan 19, 2005 5:30 am
he did have a 24 point 17 rebound performance against LSU playing former high school all american Brandon Bass, he also had 20-10 against arizona. so their are your numbers against good comp right their. should go somewhere between 4-15 in my opinion. all that being said he wont be going number 1.

From other threads it seems most Australians don't like him and would be just as happy for him to embarass himself and not get drafted, but on the other hand, wouldn't it be good for basketball in this country if he went #1. I think it's a love/hate relationship.
I still think it's an outside chance he could go #1. I don't think it's likely, but any 7 footer who's touted as a top 10 pick has a chance to go #1, since for some reason teams seem to think height can make up for all other deficiencies. Personally, I'd be much happier for more guards to go high in the draft, whether they're Australian or not.

Don't forget he played for the australian men basketball team in the olympics and the qualifiers.
But meh, everyone is a hater.

it's one thing to put up big numbers AGAINST good teams, it's another to put up big numbers FOR good teams.

DraftCity is an Australian site? Because they seem pretty set on him being #1 overall...
Wed Jan 19, 2005 6:28 pm
i guess it all depends who's drafting #1.... i mean if Utah gets the #1 pick why would they pick up another big man???? They already have Okur and Boozer locked up to long deals....wouldn't they want a guard.
Charlotte won't be looking for a PF although they might like to have Brezec as a backup or something.....it all depends on the teams needs, and not entirely on the players abilities...unless theres a Lebron James and it doesnt matter who you already have in that position

They have the right prospects on there, but there's no way they can make a ranking.
1. The order of teams picking isn't decided yet.
2. The players who are going to declare for the draft aren't in the same competition, so you can't compare them or their stats.
Like I said before, I would like to see Bogut put up stats like that on a big college, maybe he would though, who knows?
Furthermore, I knew some Australian guys would comment on my post like you did, of course you're are going to defend your fellow countrymen.
If there ever would be someone from the Netherlands in the same position I would do the same.
But you have to admit that my point of view is more objective than yours.

Not really. I was bagging him all through the Olympics for his horrible defense, and as soon as the rumours started about him being #1 overall I actually posted that he'd end up like another Kwame or something... I don't expect him to succeed like people may do, I don't want him to be the #1 overall pick... I think it's too much expectation on him, not only from the USA but from Australia aswell. This country has been screaming for a basketballer that can actually be respected on both hemispheres, and most people think we might finally have him... I just don't want anyone to get ahead of themselves.
