new NBDL 3-point rules

Postby Donatello on Fri Nov 12, 2004 9:00 am

The Three-Point Rule states:
a) During the first, second, third, and fourth periods, a successful field goal shall count as two points if it is attempted (i) from any spot on the floor when the game clock shows 3:01 or more time remaining in the period, or (ii) from the area on or inside the three-point field goal line when the game clock shows 3:00 or less time remaining in the period. During any overtime period, a successful field goal shall count as two points if it is attempted from the area on or inside the three-point field goal line.
b) When the game clock shows 3:00 or less time remaining in the first, second, third, or fourth periods, and during the entirety of any overtime period, a successful field goal shall count as three points if it is attempted from the area outside the three-point line, in accordance with the following:
(1) The shooter must have at least one foot on the floor outside the three-point field goal line prior to the attempt.
(2) The shooter may not be touching the floor on or inside the three-point field goal line.
(3) The shooter may contact the three-point field goal line, or land in the two-point field goal area, after the ball is released.
(4) If the attempt is made during the first, second, third, or fourth periods, the ball must leave the shooter’s hand with the game clock showing 3:00 or less.

   How dumb is that? 3-point shots only counting if there's under 3 min left in a quarter? That's ridiculous.

it's not that stupid. They tried it in order to try to increase the FG%, as players won't shoot anymore beyond 25 feet with 15%FG (I'm exagerating a bit) and if it's succesful, it could one day land in NBA :)

I guess it's not THAT bad.....but throwing up a horrific amount of 3's is what alot of NBA players get paid millions of dollars to do......don't take that away from them, alex....don't do it......think of the children

well i assume that removing the 3 pts line would be forking disturbing, as if we were back to the 60's ; but if it could improve the gameplay and prevent games from being bricks competition (Kyle Korver only hit 1 on 12 3pters last game), I'm still for it (Y). That's why the NBDL is implementing that rule: just wait and see

I'm just wondering how it would impact the game of 3pt specialists, namely Kyle Korver, a guy who took 71.5% of his shots beyond the 3pt line.

more and more nba players nowadays play only two ways: dunk or shoot 3's. midrange shooting is no longer respected and appreciated so i don't blame the nba for the idea of abadoning the 3pt rule.

but would the removal of 3pt line really be the solution? i mean, with that implemented we'd see more dominant inside players like shaq and amare stoudamire swarming the paint dunking or shooting jump hooks, which would guarantee teams scores but take the fun out of the game, particularly for those ppl like me who appreciate the shooting aspect of basketball more. i agree that guys like kyle korver are throwing bricks and that's why the game is so low scoring and less fun to watch but when guys like dan majerle or reggie miller or t-mac manage to put that ball through the hole from maybe 30 feet away and bring the crowd on its feet, that's when you think why basketball is basketball.

i am against the idea of removing the 3pt line for however long in a period. if they think 3's are too easy to get in today's game then do something else like pushing the line further away from the basket.

Dumb rule. So what if teams shoot too many threes, thats their choice to make. If they do and arent making them thats the coaches job to tell them to stop, not the leagues.

What happens when a team is up by 20 and you want to try to chip the lead down by shooting 3's. Ive seen it work before. What about players like Hoiberg or Korver like mentioned. Whats gonna happen to their game?

Im tired of Stern trying to change the game. Anyone remember when he changed the dunk contest so that you had to spin a wheel and whatever dunk it landed on your had to do. Idiot.

D'Antoni can't stop Richardson from shooting 2 of 17 3FG's in 1 game, in fact no one can.

here's a funny rule from the Philippines...once a rival league open up to contend with the long established PBA (phil. basketball association).they have this sick rule that if a team scores anywhere in the court within 4 seconds from their shot clock.(we have 24 shot clock here so if the clock is still 20 or up seconds) the basket will be counted as 3 points!!!!!!!! so basically a steal from the oponents or a well executed fast break will result in 3 points basket even if its a lay up!!!!!!!!
they named that stupid rule the BLITZ three

thank goodness that league is long gone (Y) what a pewnee atempt to get the score up to the 100+ century mark
