Kwame Brown

With the first pick in the 2001 draft, the Washington Wizards select....

Don't ask why I did that But what I want to ask is there the possibility Kwame wont be in the nba next season. Before I go on, lets have a look at his career stats, year by year:

01-02
4.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, only 14.3 mpg

02-03
7.4 ppg, 5.30 rpg, 1 bpg, still limited minutes though, 22.2 mpg

03-04
10.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg when he finally got some minutes, 30.3 mpg

04-05
6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 16.7 mpg

Now I know he was injured comming into the season, and i know he wasnt ready when he came into the league. However, with the wizards actually looking like a team for the first time without 23 in the lineup, will the wizards try to keep him? Remember, they already have etan thomas, jamison and jared jeffries, so they have some depth there. I really dont see him remaining a wizard.

But where will he end up? Will there be any interest elsewhere? Clippers maybe, he could be a centre? or spurs alongside duncan? or alongside shaq in miami? or out of the league?

Where do you guys see him?

Well Grunfeld has said he'll do everything to keep him, and he's said he knows Kwame is going to be a big part of this team. If you watch the Wizards, their's a big lack of defense, and Jamison playing the 4 definately doesn't help.

Etan Thomas has also been injured himself, but if you think to yourself, if the Wizards did have Etan and Kwame, how much better would their record be? They can easily battle with West teams with a froncourt or Kwame, Haywood and Etan.

He's not going to go to San Antonio or Miami, he'll go to a team with money, because as much as people hate on him, GM's around the league love the guy because he's an athletic freak who's 7'0 - 7'1 and 270 lbs, you can't teach that. He's going to get a big paycheck, think to yourself, what did Brian Cardinal and Adonal Foyle get?

Even Troy Murphy who was injured last season got a fairly big pay check, so Kwame will get payed.

When he gets in the flow and stops thinking, he can be special. However he doesn't have a great feel for the game and thinks too much. This saps his agressiveness.

A former Wizards source thinks Kwame will be good but nothing like J. O'Neal. His hands are too small and his decision making is poor.

Grunfeld disagrees. Says O'Neal wasn't ready and big men generally take longer to develop. When Grunfeld talks about Kwame, he uses the words "solid" & "rotation player". Words Doug Collins or MJ didn't use when Kwame was drafted.

Grunfeld also says he doesn't need Kwame to get 25 & 15 every night. He doesn't have to be the man. They want him to be a team player, rebound and play great D. It's a good situation for him. He can focus on helping us win.

Kwame's trade prospects have GM's drooling. One GM told Insider on the right team & situation, Kwame can be very good. Maybe that's even on the Wizards if he gets out of his funk.

He'll definitely find another team. I wouldn't even see it as conceivable that he'd end up out of the league. If guys like Oliver Miller and Kirk Penney can find their way on an NBA roster then Kwame Brown could easily.

As far as his contract goes, that's where things might change. He's still on his rookie contract from what I know, but I'd imagine he'll have to take a bit of a pay-cut if he wants to play for a decent team... or someone will take a gamble on this "potential" he supposedly has. I guess a team could use part of their MLE on him, but he's not going to be making alot more, if any more, than he is right now.

The Wizards are more willing to resign Larry Hughes than Kwame Brown.

ANd yeah, fgrep and Jae you bring up some good points, especially adonal foyle. but maybe if the wizards try to give him a low offer, he wont accept? i wont say its out of the question he wont be in the nba next season, but its not likely to happen.

Even if his numbers start to decline, there's always room on a teams bench for a 7 footer. You can't teach height.

I won't say it's completely his fault. They televise Wizards game here in Virginia often and I can see that his teammates never pass him the ball.

Yea it's really hard not to notice him calling for the ball in great position and no one giving it to him. Against Miami, he was hitting mid-range jumpers all day against Shaq, but no one wanted to give him the ball, EJ is going to have to drill it into their heads. He should take from Jamison's shots because Jamison likes to lanch up long jumpers all day.

Anyways, I see a 0% chance of him not being in the league, it's way too early, and he's not a guard, big men like this NEVER get dumped

Hes got potential.. u cant deny that but he hasnt been given the chance to show it or he lacks the confidence... myabe a different team will help bring the kwame out of him... like my dynasty of course! But seriously, a change of environment could help him out more, so i will be intrigued about his free agency this summer... see if he gets big offers!

That being said... I think he's developing slowly... I like him a lot (by what I read & saw), but it's time he shows consistent effort...

I hope he comes to the Clippers, he could play center, and a frontcourt of him and Brand would be a defensive wall. Kaman would come off the bench, and Wilcox would be let go obviously.

But the Clippers like Wilcox, don't they? Why would them let go Wilcox, who can become a solid player in future years? I hope he goes to the Sixers

Wilcox is a PF, Brand is a PF, Wilcox is very bad defensively, and with his athleticism isn't anything close to being a shot blocker because he's horrible at rotating and playing help defense.

If the Clippers could get a good deal, they'd trade Wilcox, he's also gone down in the rotation since Kaman got back in shape, and their's no point in paying him a lot of money to be Brand's backup is there, especially if the Clippers could land Kwame.

Wilcox got bumped to 6th man now that Kaman is back too which I think was a bad move.

I actually liked it, yes Wilcox was scoring, and he's a good scorer and great athlete, but his defense was attrocious, he's a weak rebounder, and I prefer a healthy Kaman starting to Wilcox because he'll rebound, and he knows how to play help defense.

I don't think he'll be out of the league, though it wouldn't be the first time a former number one pick bowed out of the NBA after only four seasons. The Adonal Foyle/Brian Cardinal factor might allow him to secure a generous payday, but those guys were in a better position to be overrated and subsequently overpaid in free agency. With the Wizards open to keeping him, I don't think it's too unlikely that he will remain in Washington for at least a little while after this offseason.
