cheers for that Skip....

I'll probably try to update the site every couple of days, some things like my Bobby Phills Memorial Medal, Game Recaps, etc will be updated more often. Rookie Report, maybe every couple of weeks, depending on how many games I get through and how busy I am.

Look out for the Rookie Report and a new Page 3 with J.D! in the next few days. Will get into scouting etc when time is right.

Regards,

yeah, Donatello, I ripped yours straight up for that message, your idea for that is a good one and I didn't want to do all my updates on the forum.....

as I said I "borrowed" a few ideas.....I took a little bit from each one..... tried to add a few new things like the Rookie Report, Page 3 with J.D! and Bobby Phills Memorial Medal.....

as for copying Cocobee's Cats Den thing, I didn't even realise as I'm only 56k connection I haven't viewed his thread in ages as it takes too long to load up.....it must have been stored up there somewhere in my collective unconscious & it sounded good at the time.....I will remedy that mistake ASAP.....

as for the Geocities, thanks for the pointer, do you or anyone else know of any other free webspace that is being offered.....

cheers

Hey everyone, I finally updated my website. Meant to do it about half a week ago, but work and work xmas party kept me busy :D

No new games as Bobcats had about 8 or 9 days with no games.

However:

WEBSITE UPDATE:
Cats' Corner, Transactions, League Leaders, Season Standings, Page 3 with J.D!, Oz's Rookie Watch, X's Scouting Report, and the BPMM Leaderboard.

THREAD UPDATE:
Cats Corner, Transactions, BPMM Leaderboard

Please check out Page 3 with J.D! and Oz's Rookie Watch. Tell me what you think. I'm slowly trying to upgrade the site by adding pics, etc one bit at a time.

Feedback is greatly appreciated.

I will probably have some more Bobcats' game recaps in the next few days.

Cheers

I have decided to start posting boxscores on the thread and the occasional article from my Dynasty Website.

Check out the Page 3 with J.D! article (ala ESPN style) below.

-------------

PAGE 3 with J.D!

12/10/04
AM I READING CORRECTLY?
by J.D!

You've checked the standings and league leaders, and yes, you have read correctly. That IS the Seattle Supersonics leading the Western Conference with a 6-2 record. The season might only be two weeks old, but here are some more quirky trends......road teams have a winning record (44/79 or 0.557)......Austin Croshere is carrying the depleted Pacers with his 23.0ppg average, which is good for 15th in the league......the Hawks dynamic duo, Antoine Walker and Al Harrington are combining for 47.3ppg, 24.0rpg, 8.8apg, 2.84bpg & 2.66spg, and the Hawks still suck......

Who's Hot?
- Detroit Pistons (5-0) is the NBA's only undefeated team and it's average margin of victory is 15.8ppg, which included a 22 point win in San Antonio. And this has been without the services of Big Ben Wallace.
- Gary Payton (Boston) has bounced back from his LA disaster to be averaging 19.8ppg, 5.3rpg, 6.5apg & 1.75spg for the Celtics (2-2).
- Houston Rockets (3-1) are on a 3 game tear, and have been winning on the backs of duo Yao and McGrady by an average of 24.3ppg during that stretch, which included wins over Denver and Seattle.

Who's Not?
- Philadelphia 76ers (1-5) is getting beat up by an average of 15.0ppg. This included a 50 point drubbing at the hands of Dallas (see below for Mavs' boxscore).
- Amare Stoudemire (Phoenix) is averaging only 12.4ppg & 9.8rpg on 37.3% FG for the ice-cold Suns (1-4). If the Phoenix is serious about a push for the playoffs, it all starts and ends with Amare. He's need to break out of his funk quickly or the season could be in the tank.
- Charlotte Bobcats (0-3) still looking for their first win. Have lost by an average of 17.7ppg. It could be a long season in NC.

Money, Money, Money!
Ray Allen. He might not have got his contract, but if he continues this sort of product for Seattle (6-2), they are going to have no choice but to pony up. Allen has really stepped up over the first fortnight of the season, and has averaged 30.3 points, 4.3 rebounds & 6.0 assists for the surprising Sonics. This included a 41 point outburst in a 104-103 win in Memphis on 29/10/04, and an NBA season-high 44pts in the Sonics 112-98 drubbing of Phoenix on 06/11/04 at Key Arena.

Image Image
Allen (above left) shoots over Joe Johnson on his way to 44pts & Rashard Lewis (above right) holds it up in the Sonics' win over the Suns

Team on the Rise
Seattle Supersonics. The Sonics have a Conference-best record of 6-2 through the first couple of weeks of November. They have the NBA's leading scorer in Ray Allen (30.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 6.0apg & 1.75spg), and Rashard Lewis (22.5ppg, 11.1rpg, 3.8apg, 1.50spg & 1.50bpg) has been a revelation, and the rest of the crew have supported this dynamic duo well. Most people expected Sonics to be more like 2-6 at this point, so they have surprised many. Doubting Thomases don't expect Seattle to continue playing at this level. I say, stuff them, these Sonics put points on the board and are fun to watch. Let's hope this rock does not gather any moss on its journey.

E-Mail of the Week
Horaldo "Hairy" Knolls (Hokitika, New Zealand): I read that article you wrote discussing your pre-season picks. I think you were way off the base in a lot of your predictions. But how come my team, the Hawks got no love. Toine is gonna win MVP, Josh Childress Rookie of the Year, Jon Barry 6th Man of the Year, and we're gonna surprise many by making some noise in the playoffs.

J.D!: All I can say Hairy, is that you must have some good stuff down there in Hokitiga. Send some up, would ya?

Box This Up and Wrap It For Latter

Image

Cause: Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley and Jason Terry return from injury, and Stackhouse is promoted to the starting lineup.
Effect: Mavericks win by 50 points, and the Big 4 combine to score 113 points in the Mavs' thumping of the 76ers.

A Line To Die For
November 6, 2004, New Jersey at Golden State
Line: 44mins, 42pts, 17-29 FG, 7-15 3Pt, 1-1 FT, 7rebs, 6asts, 1stl, 1blk, 3TO's

This was Mike Dunleavy Jr's line in the Warriors 100-98 home win over the Nets. Dunleavy has taken a lot of heat over the past two seasons after being selected 3rd overall in the 2002 NBA Draft after leaving Duke after his junior season. This game was a breakout for Dunleavy, who leads the Warriors (4-2) in scoring (22.3ppg - 20th in NBA).

a little retrospect(sorry that this is a bit late as we're now at the end of the season...)

...from the annals of the 2005 Birdie Project: (info)
The X's Bobcats 2004-05 quarter-season Birdie Breakdown:

Image

Seems to be a trend here too, The X's Okafor is burdening the load for the new Bobcats- being the team MVP with a weighted birdie score of 16.50 and his 'reversible' Live Card Will be enabled.

Trying to keep up with the pack:
This Dynasty instance is currently ranked #12 on the 2005 Birdie Board.
(however,NO PENALTIES so that's good!)

For the complete 'Birdie Breakdown', click here.

The X: It appears that you've toned down on the updates here. But Nevertheless, please send me your action photo screenshot so I can enable your Live Card and...although you're not updating, PLEASE keep sending me your pstat files, let's see that Birdie Score crack the top 10!

1st TRI-MESTER SUMMARY

I'm one-third of the way through the 2004/05 season and I've got the Bobcats at 5-14 and we are on a 4 game slide. It's been up-and-down, but team is going through learning curve. The best performer has easily been rookie Emeka Okafor, who leads the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks. Primo Brezec and Gerald Wallace are each getting between 11-12ppg and 7-8rpg, with Gerald Wallace supplying a strong defensive presence on the perimeter.

Where one of the 'Cats major problems lie are with its backcourt. No PG or SG has stepped up and secured each respective position. Jason Hart was starting to look like he had starting spot secured only to injure himself for the next 2 weeks. I think at the moment the guard position are manned by committee. Whoever is hot plays, as simple as that. The teams rely on defense to win games, as its scoring ability stinks.

It will be a long season, and whilst the playoffs remain a possibility, it's unlikely with the current core that the team can reach this lofty level. Charlotte seems to be holding out for the Draft (which is not that deep) and Free Agency to stock the team with some more talent.

PIC OF THE 1st TRI-MESTER

Image

Brevin Knight knocks the ball loose from Nick Van Exel in the Bobcats' home win against the Blazers. This picture is really a true snapshot of the Bobcats' progress so far this season. Defense, hustle and a never-say-die attitute have helped to make up for the lack of talent on the roster.

Although the season is still relatively young, it has not stopped the Bobcats from looking to the future as its scouts have been scouring the globe for the next big thing.

ASIA

Image

Whilst still not that deep, Asia still managed to provide its usual share of raw big men. However, it was a PG who has NBA scouts buzzing. His name is Julian Nwanaka.

JULIAN NWANAKA

Nwanaka is a 21 year old PG who is a lock for lottery and is expected to go anyway in the Top 10 of the 2005 draft, most likely in the top few spots. This year's draft is devoid of many quality PG's and it is for this reason that teams needing a PG will not hesitate to jump on Nwanaka if he is still on the board.

AFRICA

Image

It was basically a waste of the scout's time to head to Africa, and is rightly keep his stay short. Whilst the African players were big, they also had little to no NBA-level skills, and really could use a lot of schooling in college or in Europe. However, there is one prospect who could scrape into the bottom of the 1st Round. His name is Xavier Radwan.

XAVIER RADWAN

Radwan definately has an NBA centre's body at 7'1" and 292lbs. Radwan is a huge project, but as the old basketball adage goes, 'you can't teach height'. NBA GM's hope that Radwan can someday grow into a dependable big man who can be a force on the defensive end. I myself think they are dreaming, as he will be in 'n' out of the league without a couple of years.

BREAKING NEWS:

Whilst scouting young European guard Jamie Nakamura who is a bubble 1st Round pick and widely considered the next Sarunas Marcuilonis, the Bobcats GM witnessed a game of H-O-R-S-E between Nakamura and a virtual unknown, Andrew Watson (The X in NLSC). Whilst this may not seem unusual, it became apparent as Nakamura and Watson went shot-for-shot and letter-for-letter as the unknown Watson end up winning by a single letter.

After this display, the Bobcats GM checked into Watson's past, and noticed that he still had one year of college eligibility remaining, as he redshirted his senior season to concentrate on his studies. Upon learning of his eligibility for the 2005 NBA Draft, and at the urging of his young mate Nakamura, Watson has decided to declare for next season's draft.

Here is the scout's view on Watson.

ANDREW WATSON

Bio:
Andrew Watson hails from Christchurch, New Zealand where he played his high school and college ball. He now resides in Brisbane, Australia and remained virtually unknown on the basketball hemisphere until his game of H-O-R-S-E with mate Jamie Nakamura. Watson is well educated, as he holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Canterbury (NZ) and a newly completed Masters of Business from Queensland University of Technology (Australia).

Scout's Outlook:
Watson is a smart player on both ends of the court, and has a coach's understanding of the game. He is a good shooter with NBA range, however he can be streaky at times. The question is whether Watson can compete athletically with NBA SG's or has to learn the PG position. Watson has slow footspeed, but has good quickness, a good first step and a quick release on his jumpshot that might allow him to get his shot off regularly at this level. I think the thing that has impressed the Bobcats the most is that he is a team player and would make a good role model for the Charlotte community. Due to his age and athletic limitations, it is expected that Andrew Watson will go anywhere from mid to late 2nd Round to undrafted.

Comparisons:

Best Case Scenario: Jon Barry
Worst Case Scenario: Bryce Drew

Most Likely Scenario: Fred Hoiberg

Bobcats have dropped to 5-16, and are in desparate need of a win, but the real question is what is Vin Baker up to in the pic shown below.

Image

Vin Baker is:

[a]. Trying to block Emeka Okafor's dunk;
[b]. Hoping that no one will notice him getting facialised by Okafor; or
[c]. Trying to grab a  off the top of the backboard?
