I was discussing this with a friend when we were playing, about a jump stop being travelling. Could someone explain the conditions in which a jump stop would be travelling/ not travelling?
I mean like, do you have to catch the ball when it is in the air in your jumping motion, rather than catching the ball and then jumping?
And, do you have to land on both feet simultaneously, with no further movement allowed?

I think when you land you have to choose a pivot foot and stay with that. Alot of the time if someone catches the ball in the air, or does a jump stop they tend to shuffle their feet a bit or lift the pivot foot which is a travel.

the legal way to do a jump stop is to do it without moving your feet at all prior to jumping and not moving your feet afterwards. of course this is one of those rules that the refs feel its better not to unless unless it is incredibly out of hand.

Generally when you're dribbling and go to do a jumpstop you go off of one foot, grab the ball, and come down with both feet at the same time (if your feet come down one at a time it's travelling.) Then you can't move your feet. But if you catch the ball in the air off a pass or rebound and come down with both feet at the same time you can now choose whichever pivot foot you want.

but... if.. in a normal situation, you have are holding the ball and jump and land, its travelling. In a jump stop, would you have to catch the ball while its at the top of the dribble, WHILE you are in the air?

^^ if you catch the ball in midair and land on both feet, you are still allowed to establish a pivot foot.. although i can see how some people may see it as travelling
