Most Improved Player ?Simmons?

Postby -BHZMAFIA- on Wed Dec 22, 2004 6:20 pm

He has tremendously played well this season. He has recieved more time this season with the Clippers and he showed glimpses of becoming a good player last season when he started to get mins. He had 30 pts against hornets in the overtime game tonight and is averaging 15.9ppg and 6rpg this season. his minutes have moved up from 24.6 to 36.8 and he has started all 23 games. FG%, 3P%, FT%, RPG, SPG, APG and PPG have all went up from last season.

Its hard to say its not Simmons. Rashard Lewis deserves some recognition but simmons came from nowhere. Larry Hughes has also been good, or lebron, or wade, or amare. But yeah, i'd say simmons too...for now at least.

MIP usually goes to a new all star. Look at Randolph, O'Neal, Tmac. It will be Lewis

Not always. Look at Gheorghe Mureasan, Darrell Armstrong, Alan Henderson and Ike Austin. Those guys were never stars.

doubtful rashard lewis will be most improved player this year.. he's been consistent the last couple of years.. besides if he were gonna get that award he should've gotten it last year when he erupted for 50 pts against the clips

EDDIE GRIFFIN for MIP or 6th MAN!!! :D

But MIP should go to Bobby Simmons, not Rashard Lewis. Lewis puts up 18ppg last year *i think*.

even if lewis has averaged 18pts a year he's been disappointing in other aspects of his game up, even his offensive repetoire itself

griffin and simmons warrant serious consideration

No he's just a basketball player.

Bobby Simmons is a stellar player. Anyboyd watch the OT game against the Hornets? His three over whoever from the corner was silly. And he got hops.

Eddie Griffin is hitting 3's and taking the minutes of Kandi and Madsen but for MIP no, he wasn't even playing last year, maybe 6th man if he keeps it up.

Does injury count? If so Grant Hill should be awared. If not they need a comeback award.

I believe they used to have a Comeback Player of the Year Award, but it's either been phased out or is only awarded when a star player does make a successful comeback.

I don't know, hard to say, I mean if you look at improvement then you must look at Primoz Brezec, he is scoring 11 times more points then last year, and 6 times more rebounds then last year! Try to find a players with better improvments. Don't forget the MIP is individual award, doesnt matter if the team is winning or not. Same could be said about Gerald Wallace, simular improvments! Do they take into consideration the these players are playing for expancion team? Coz i dont think that a player from expension team has ever won MIP.
But its hard to see someone else but a Bobcat getting the award!

PS- there was never a comback player award!

The MIP award is often given to a good player that finally gets the minutes not really the one that's improved.

Only six men in league history won the Comeback honor because it only existed that long, after a pattern emerged.

In 1985-86, the NBA awarded a Comeback Player of the Year and Most Improved Player trophy before eliminating the comeback honor altogether. San Antonio's Alvin Robertson was the first MIP in '85-86.

Say what?

It's easily Bobby Simmons if they aren't going by the good old Most Improved Minutes angle.

Simmons improved his jumpshot last season and was showing some signs of offense, but this off-season he worked on his ball handling and vastly improved his jumpshot. Some people see him shooting 53% and will think of he drives a lot and get's a lot of layups, but he's taking 79% jumpshots and shooting 53%.
He's also shooting 50% [13-26] from three, and 88.3% from the line, averaging 3.1 assists a game, and getting 1.42 steals. I'd rather the offense went through him and Brand as opposed to Maggette because he makes smart decisions and takes good shots. Maggette does too much stupidness, he's hurt the team a lot down the stretch because he tries to do everything and just takes quick/bad shots and get's turnovers.

I'd like Grant to get the comeback award, but I don't think they'll do it.

MIP's
Bobby Simmons
Dwyane Wade
Lebron James
Eddie Griffin
Larry Hughes

I don't know why many people are so surprised about Griffin though, he was a good player in Houston just had some problems, he's not really "improved", just got back on track.

I think that any Bobcats' player will be good for MIP, like Primoz Brezec, or Keith Bogans.

LeBron won the rookie of hte year award last year, and he is posting numbers slightly better this year. He won't win mip.

Same deal for Wade minus the ROY award, he was good last year, and is playing great this year. Mip never goes to 2nd year players, because every1 assumes they will improve anyway.

I'd like to see Grant Hill or Eddie to win MIP (Y)

Agreed. He's actually more of an mvp candidate than an mip one.

what abt Antawn Jamison?

I know he was coming off the bench but seriously hes averaging really good numbers.
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/antawn_ja ... l?nav=page

u also got Drew Gooden specially if he can up his PPG to around 16-18...

Nazr Mohammed is almost getting a double double too....hes improved on last season.

n if Tyson can get more offensive stats up he to can be a candidate for MIP...

How can Jamison win it, he has career highs of 25 and 9, and is not even at that this season. Just because he had a season playing on a stacked team without minutes lol, people know he's a 20-8 player consistently with minutes.

Antawn isn't even close to being in the running, what did he improve on . It's not who had the best number in comparison to their previous season in the sense that if you average 25-6-6 for 3 years, then 18-4-4 the 4th year, then the next season have 27-6-6, you're not going to get MIP because you just had a lesser role or less minutes one year.

Actually, Tinsley is probably putting up the most impressive numbers.
He's doubled his offensive production, is shooting well from the 3pointline (he used to be terrible from there). He's averaging 2.63 steals and a very respectable amount of assists. He's showing some scoring ability with several key players out. Can you imagine him playing behind Johnson and Kenny Anderson now?
