If things proceed as they are at the moment, ROY will be a battle between Amare and Yao, though Caron Butler still has a shot. Gooden might also have a chance if he can crack the starting lineup again, because he can produce given the time.

I believe that Gooden is the Rookies Scoring leader, but like Laddas said, after the media has given so much priority to Yao possibilities of being a legend, it's difficult to take away that award from him, the only one that can do it at the moment would be stodemire but he has to keep playing like that and has to pray for Yao to keep his inconsistent shooting.

Note: For Yao, not being one of the top rebound leaders is bad, cause his size should let him do that.

With Yao you have to remember that he played his first 10 games off the bench, getting limited court time. He had to play catchup to increase his averages. He's still only playing 27 minutes per game, so 8 boards a game is not bad. 12.8 ppg, 8 rpg and 2.1 bpg is a pretty good line.

I'm going with Amare as of now, based on consistency and stats. He is looking like a veteran, not a highschooler. I think he is also showing the most heart out of all the Rooks.

but yao has more of the attention from the media so yer,

True. I think he may even steal it from Amare because of this. Amare is getting more and more attention, but he is never going to be a story like Yao.

also wagner who for some reason is playing on the bench

The reason he is coming off the bench is because the Cavs want to start Miles and not look like complete idiots for giving up Dre for him. Smush is starting because he is the guy who gets Davis, Miles and Wagner the ball.

Isn't Wagner more of an Allen Iverson type shooting guard, rather than a point guard?

Yes he is. If he was a true point he would be definately starting ahead of Smush.

if the award is given to the best performer, then either amare or yao will win it, and i think amare is performing better than yao at the moment.

however, i am 99% sure that Yao will win the rookie of the year because of his reputation!

Big Z
miles
Davis
wagner
parker

is who they should be starting, miles will be thin playing pf, but so was garnett wen he was there, but miles doesnt have a range out of 10 feet so he will be better off.

Wrong thread Laddas...

I'd vote for Amare Stoudamire. He seems to be getting better every week, and I see him averaging a double double along with 1.5 block per game till the end of February. I saw him play last tuesday when the Suns faced the Spurs, and Amare played great, with so much poise. He had like 25 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. He could be the best player out of high school... Imagine him on the Wizards...

Yao Ming won't win it if his number stay the same way... 13 ppg/8rpg/2bpg

About Nenê, I never could imagine he would have these numbers... Last year, in the brazilian basketball league, he averaged like 8 points, 8 boards and 2 blocks per game... So he's putting the same numbers in the NBA... I think he'll be an All Star in some years.

I want Amaaaaare to be the rookie of the year !!!!!!!!!!!!
Have U ever seen Yao in more than one or 2 top ten ????
While Amaaaare is a great dunker !!!!!!!!!!!
Ok I admit Stoudamire is a bit too young, and that Yao is very popular, but plz.........it seems that before the beginning of the season, Yao had already won the title (at least for medias), and I really would like Amare to beat him...!!!

4 is the blocks of course

I thought it was the apg... He's a suprisingly good passer... Not Garnett-esque, but good, above average for a big man.

I see him averaging 12 ppg, 8 rpg, 3 apg, 1.5 spg and 1.5 bpg two seasons from now...

Who hasn't got better offensive game then Ben Wallace?

Nene has a great opportunity to be a star on this very thin Nuggies roster. He and Howard are about the only offensive options they have. Skita could probably help if he got some decent minutes.

they should check amare's ID, he's not playing like a rookie straight from high school. he's my fav rookie. wonder which player is going to end up in the next stoudemire poster...

IMO- gooden should be coming off the bench. he could be a nice spark off the bench since he shoots the ball so much.
