^ -- Why Ron Artest is now one of my favorite players in the NBA.
One off-season, while still playing for the Chicago Bulls, Ron Artest applied for a job at Circuit City. On the job application he wrote down "NBA player" as his last job and used Bulls president Jerry Krause's name as a reference. And he did it all just so he could get the employee discount on home electronics.
Go back and read that paragraph again. An NBA player, earning a seven-digit salary, applied for a job at Circuit City so he could get 10%-15% off of his electronics purchases. He didn't offer to sign a few autographs for customers if they'd give him a deal. He didn't try and use his status as a basketball player to get free stuff. He applied for a summer job. That's the type of guy we're dealing with here. So before you start piling on Mr. Artest for his latest antics, remember that we are dealing with a different cat here, and the normal rules don't apply

that's funny, but it just pisses me off because it reminds me of all the rich teenagers who don't need jobs and don't even need the money taking up all the jobs so that the scumbags who actually need the job can't get it

That's only part of the story. He was running out of money at the time because he blew most of his $1 million per year that he was earning. And just because you're an NBA player doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to get a discount at Circuit City and Artest wasn't that well known at the time so his chances of getting a discount were not great. So with not much money or fame, or a college education, what else can one do but apply for a job at Circuit City. Don't try to glorify him too much.

I read another thing like that a while back. Apparentely he didn't have to really "apply" for the job because his Dad or some form of relative was in charge of where he was going to work.

Hey folks, this whole story reminds me of a song by Sticky Fingaz, called "Ghetto", where they sing all the time "can you be rich and be ghetto?". Is this song dedicated to Artest?
