LAKERS LED BY KOBE INTO SEASON OF UNCERTAINTY

Los Angeles Lakers 119 @ Philadelphia 76ers 96

Oct 29, Philadelphia - A rare sight was beheld on the floor of the Sixer's hometurf as the Lakers had the following rotation on the floor. Slava Medvedenko at Center, Brian Cook at Power Forward, Luke Walton and Kareem Rush at the wings and rookie Sasha Vujaivc calling the plays.

The Lakers were winning by 21 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles were led by Kobe Bryant into the 2004-05 season, a season which many NBA experts believe will be tough for the team from Hollywood. One of the most recent statements made in the media was by ESPN analyst Marc Stein stating that if LA wanted to win, they would have kept Shaquille O'neal. This sparked and fuelled Kobe Bryant into a frenzy, a week after Bryant was criticised by Seattle Guard Ray Allen.

"I'm going to prove everyone wrong this season," Bryant released in a statement, "If everyone thinks I'm selfish, so be it." He certainly proved his critics wrong for one more day with a triple double performance and great leadership. His 32 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists paced Los Angeles to an easy victory.

"His leadership has been outstanding so far," New coach Rudy Tomjanovic said, "I see Bryant conducting weights training everyday and he comes to practise and shootarounds early, earlier than everyone else." Tomjanovic, a winner of two championships in 94 and 95 was signed as the Lakers new head coach over the busy off-season and succeeds Phil Jackson.

The Lakers who lost the core of their dynasty three-peat teams kept the one player who they believe is a main piece of their puzzle to be a dynasty for the future. However, Bryant has been surrounded with significant depth. Lamar Odom scored 22 points and 7 rebounds, Caron Butler 12, 5 and 4 while Brian Grant grabbed 13 rebound off the pine. All of them were acquired in the Shaquille O'neal trade. Shaq's replacement in the middle, Chris Mihm had a solid debut scoring 5 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and blocking 4 shots.

The Lakers came out on fire and ran out to a 15-0 lead before the Sixers took their first timeout. The teams came out with Philadelphia trying to get back into the game and the Sixers went on an 8-0 scoring run. However, any hopes of a comeback faded when Chucky Atkins hit back-to-backs threes, Rush added two of his own and Bryant stole the ball at midcourt to complete and emphatic dunk and the home crowd started to boo Allen Iverson.

Iverson scored 27 points, the USA co-captain from the Athens Games did struggle int he first half against Kobe Bryant's defence. Shooting 2-14 in the first half was one of the main reasons why his team trailled by as many as 30 points throughout the game. "I don't know what happend but I just let Bryant get to my mind too much. When I scored 13 in the third quarter, the Lakers had already done so much that I couldn't single handedly turn the game round."

Bryant led five scorers in double digits and all of the players on the team scored. "It was a great team effort," Veteran Chucky Atkins said post game. Sixers Forward Kyle Korver sat out due to an upset stomach and made an observation of Bryant that not many have made. "He's bulked up quite alot and it seems Kobe's really focusing on helping his teammates win ball games."

A startling contrast to any comments made about Bryant outside of the Lakers orginaisation.

NOTES

Kobe Bryant has complained of a sore left leg recently... The Lakers held a 20 rebound advantage over the smaller Sixer's team... Philadelphia forced Los Angeles into 23 turnrovers... Former Laker Shaquille O'neal's Heat lost to Boston after former Laker Gary Payton hit a buzzer beater to win the game 95-94... The Lakers have appointed a new General Manager who will be presented when the Lakers host Portland tommorrow night...

ODOM NOT A DIFFERENCE MAKER?

Portland Trailblazers 105 @ Los Angeles Lakers 95

Oct 31, Los Angeles - The Portland Trailblazers were led by Damon Stoudamire's 28 points and 7 assists to upstage the Los Angeles Laker's first home game of the season.

As Portland got off to a slow start Stoudamire, who is trying to get back into All-star form stepped up his play to help his team build a lead into halftime. The game only got worse as Los Angeles lost their star guard Kobe Bryant to a leg injury early in the third quarter that led to the home team never making any significant run to win the game.

Zach Rudolph's 18 points and 10 rebounds and Theo Ratliff's 10 points and 15 rebounds help Portland hold an advantage over the Lakers frontcourt players.

Despite Lamar Odom's 24 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals, the Lakers had no other answers against the Blazers who scored at will throughout the match, especially in the paint. "When Kobe left the game, all hope was lost. There's only a certain amount of energy I can provide to this team but I don't think I have the leadership Kobe has," Odom explained, "That's why we support our captain 100%."

New Lakers center Chris Mihm and Brian Grant tried their best to help keep the score as close as possible with their hustle but the performance of the team's shooting had a drastic effect on the final outcome of the game. Chucky Atkins, Caron Butler and Kobe Bryant only made a combined 10-35 and couldn't find their stroke. The their lack of 'putting the ball in the rim' had more or less of an effect on the scoreline.

"I'd hate to focus the blame on specific players but I have to note that Chucky, Caron and Kobe all let the team down," An aggravated Rudy Tomjanovic said, "We're going to need to start practising that mid-range jumper."

After the Lakers were down by double digits going into the second half, Kobe Bryant came out of the break to block a layup attempt by Shareef Abdur-Rahim then scored at the other end. He then striped the ball from Nick Van Exel and assisted on a Kareem Rush three pointer. Bryant then scored three more baskets and the Lakers seemed to be back in the game. However, Bryant was then knocked down hard on defence whilst trying to take a charge and suffered a leg injury. Bryant limped off court as Rudy Tomjanovic clearly looked red in the face with frustration.

Damon Stoudamire who has had an up and down career thus far told reporters after the game, "My main aim this year, is to make that All-star team."

NOTES:

The Lakers turned the ball over 20+ times in the second consecutive game... The 6'6" Bryant has complained of a sore left leg but opted to play even through pain... Darius Miles had a quiet night off the bench but provided the STAPLES center crowd with a thunderous dunk late in the game which brang a mixed reaction of cheers and boos... Jack Nicholson who sits behind the visiting bench got into Nick Van Exel's ear as the former Laker turned around the spray the Hollywood actor with water. When he returned to the bench in the fourth quarter, Nicholson poured a box of popcorn over the player...

SUPER-SOPH RIDNOUR LEADS SONICS

Los Angeles Lakers 105 @ Seattle Supersonics 112

Nov 1 , Seattle - The Seattle Supersonics won their first game of the season as the Lakers fell to 1-2. In the much anticipated game of the start of the season, the main attraction of the matchup bewteen All-stars Kobe Bryant and Ray Allen didn't draw much attention. Two reasons led to this. The first was Bryant's injury and the second was Luke Ridnour.

Luke Ridnour scored 31 points, most of them in the second quarter on 13-18 shooting and Ray Allen scored 27 on 10-19 shooting. The Sonics ran away with the win in the last 2 minutes of the final period and stopped a Lakers comeback. The Lakers were led by Lamar Odom's 31 point and 7 rebound effort and an injured Kobe Bryant's 31 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. The two were supported by a big effort from Brian Grant who had 19 points and 9 rebounds.

Kobe Bryant who wore a protective short sleeve on his left thigh was a gametime decision and he started the game against Seattle. However, 4 minutes into the game, Bryant was clearly struggling and was taken and placed back onto the bench as Kareem Rush replaced him. The Lakers, without Bryant started to collapse on defence as the Sonics took an early 26-15 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter led to the emergence of second year guard luke Ridnour. Ridnour drove inside and scored basket after another, seemingly effortlessly. Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovic was very evidently furious with his team's performance down low on defence as Ridnour shot over centers Chris Mihm and Brian Grant. The Sonics took a 20 point lead into the third quarter.

"That is the worst defence I have ever seen. I don't know what happened but our bigs just weren't concentrating. How do you let a point guard other than Allen Iverson score at will?" questioned Tomjanovic at half time. As a consequence of their poor play, Tomjanovic sat out all of his starters except for Odom and watched on as Seattle protected their lead.

"I wanted Butler and Kobe and Mihm to realise how important every game we drop is," Rudy explained his actions, "I know Kobe is only at around 70-75% but if he wants to start he needs to play with passion."

The extended time on the bench seemed to energise the Lakers as Lamar Odom scored a consecutive 12 of his 16 fourth quater points in the first 5 minutes of the fourth quarter in a Lakers 16-0 run. As the SOnics looked like they wanted to start defending their lead, Kobe Bryant came off the bench to score 15 points in the last 4 minutes of the final period along with 5 steals.

"They really came out on fire!" Ray Allen said, "We actually got scared for a moment." But the Sonics who seem not to lack any composure came out of a late timeout, with the game on the line 103-103 and allowed Ray Allen to control the game from their. Allen scored a three point basket and then forced Bryant into a backcourt violation. He then scored a 20 footer as Bryant was blocked on the other end by Rashard Lewis. Luke Ridnour scored another jumpshot and Lewis stole the ball off Bryant and scored the a layup.

This all destroyed any hope for the Lakers to win the game as the Sonics homecrowd cheered on their team wioth chants of MVP for Ray Allen.

NOTES

Kobe Bryant was diagnosed with a strained left thigh and is a game day decision for the next 10 days... Bryant turned the ball over 8 times as the Lakers turned it over 20+ for their third consecutive game... Brian Grant has become a big piece in the Lakers rotation, finding his place on the team as a Sixth man and defensive stopper... The KeyArena had a sellout crowd for their first regular season game as fans were disapointed Bryant and Allen didn't cause any trouble oncourt...

GASOL AND GRIZZ BACKCOURT DICTATE GAME

Los Angeles Lakers 94 @ Memphis Grizzlies 102

Nov 7, Memphis - The stage was set at the FedEX Forum for the Lakers to steal the game despite their horrible form. The Lakers shot 10-28 from the charity stripe, something management thought wouldn't happen without SHaquille O'nael on the team.

This led to Spainiad Pau Gasol to dominate inside and take advantage of the absence of Sixth Man Brian Grant who left the game with a left leg injury. Kobe Bryant who was a gametime decision played but was limited to shooting 9-25 from the field by a strained left thigh. "I couldn't get open and when I did,. I found it dificult to get as high up as I usually do," the aerobatic specialist said. The Shooting Guard missed several easy layups and couldn't find any rhythm on offence.

Pau Gasol led the team on 11-15 shooting and ended on a final line 22 points and 10 rebounds. He, Bonzi Wells (23), and Jason Williams (21) combined for most of the Grizzlies scoring output and it was them who won the game late in the dying minutes. The whole team shot 55% from the field and made the most of their free throw opportunities unlike their opposition.

"We felt that we were going to do well against the Lakers because their best player wasn't at his best form," Pau Gasol analysed his team's performance, "We shot the ball well and held on to the win."

With the game tied at 94, the Lakers had posession of the ball. Kobe Bryant had a chance to put the Lakers ahead with a driving layup but he missed it under pressure from the defence Pau Gasol put on him. With 1:56 left, Mike Miller drained a three and then Bryant missed two free throws as Bonzi Wells hit another long range shot. With the Grizzlies ahead 100-94, Bryant was blocked on a three point attempt and the Grizzlies scored an easy 2 points and held on to win.

"I am truly disappointed with my effort tonight. My thogh was hurting but I should have made those layups," Bryant said, "That's what I'm paid to do- make layups."

Rudy Tomjanovic who is having a hard time at head coach was cursing in his postgame interview, something that is very rare for him. He was fined by the League soon after the interview finished.

The Lakers fell to a 10-0 scoreline and Bryant sat on the bench again. Chris Mihm picked up the slack enroute to scoring 24 points, his highest points total this season and in a long time. "I felt that I could play well on offence. I take pride in my post play."

Unfortunately for the Lakers, who lack any interior size, their second string big man Brian Grant was injured after spending 5 minutes in the game. The team doctors explained his injury, "Brian Grant only suffered a very minor left leg injury. Nothing serious as he should be able to play in the next game."

Despite his injury slowing him down, Bryant still contributed 25 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 thefts. "Imagine what he can do healthy!" joked Grizzlies Point Guard Earl Watson.

NOTES

Grizzlies Coach Hubie Brown was admitted into hospital yesterday with an unexplained illness. He was suffering from nausea... The Lakers are still without Vlade Divac, Devean George and Karl Malone. Divac is expected to return late Novemeber and the other two late December or early January... Kobe Bryant is averaging 6 turnovers per game but expects that number to drop once he's in full form... The FedEX Forum had only half the stadium filled up...

Hello all... I hope u guys are enjoying my new dynasty... any suggestions on how to make it better would be much appreciated!

also... Should I trade for Artest or keep Odom since Odom is doing awesome for me so far... second in scoring and stuff. I rely on him more because I wont activate Valde for a while and same for Devean unlike my other dynasty where they were both back in the second game!

Also... for The X, Kareem Rush is averging 8.5 ppg on 55% shooting and 40% 3PT I believe. And Brian Grant is averaging 9 rpg off the bench. Him for 6th man of the year!

dang really bad start.....1-3 not looking good...

I think u need a point guard....use Butler, Atkins, Slava and Luke and try land a solid point....go for Andre Miller

few other suggestions are Marcus Banks, Carlos Arroyo and even Bassy might be worth a shot if u want a pg with potential.

Or you could see how Odom does for like say the next 5 games, n use him and Butler to get yourself a really good PF or a really good PG.

Nene, Chandler(worth a shot), B Diddy?

KOBE LEAVES GAME EARLY, LAKERS STUMBLE

Utah Jazz 129 @ Los Angeles Lakers 104

Nov 17, Los Angeles - The Laker's season is falling apart in front of their eyes. Utah delivered a harsh blow on the Laker's confidence with a blowout win in style by outscoring their opponents 79-47 in the second half.

"This was embarrasing and to think that we were winning at half time," Kobe Bryant said. Bryant who has recovered from an injured thigh fouled out early in his best performance. It seemed that he was on his way to a quadruple double with 26 points, a season high 14 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals. He had the finest first half output of any player in the League with 25 points (11-15 FG), 12 rebunds, 7 assists and 6 steals. However, he struggled after the break and fouled out very quickly on two controversial calls.

The first was when he was called for fouling Carlos Boozer but he argued he didn't touch him. The second was when Boozer took a charge against Bryant. "He was moving. That is not a charge!" Bryant said. His coach Rudy T backed his star player, "Those two calls were total bull."

The NBA is reviewing tapes of the alledged calls to see if any cheating has occurred. A statement released by the League read, "We are looking into this but as far as the outcome of the game goes we can't do anything even if the ref was wrong." This was because Bryant fouled out in the middle of a Jazz 25-0 run and the Jazz argue that Bryant staying in the wouldn't have amde any difference. Lakers' Forward Karl Malone shot back and said that Bryant would have helped keep the team in the game due to his outstanding performance.

Bryant recieved little help while he was on-court and sat on the bench to watch fellow shooting guard Kareem Rush scare the Jazz as he scored three straight three point baskets at the start of the final period. Gordon Giricek steeped up and scored 12 of his game high 31 points in the final period.

The Jazz had seven players in double figures for their highest scoring game of the season and highest team total in the NBA for this season. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan talked about his team's performance, "This is our first game of the season and we've won. Against the Lakers who have one of the best today and we won with great team play."

NOTES

Kobe Bryant turned the ball over 7 times... Bryant leads the League in steals per game with 4.0 spg... Los Angeles has not won a game at home thus far, they are 0-2... Brain Grant also did well off the pine with 14 points and 8 rebounds...

man this is prolly the only dynasty thats on a loosing side....its kinda fun to watch when its got its downs aswell.

Ok I think u need to start looking at some sorta a trade, u need a point guard fast...Atkins is messing u up big time. Try Tierre Brown or Sasha Vujacic for the next one and bring Atkins off the bench. (y)

LAKERS LOSE IN HEARTBREAKER

Los Angeles Lakers 101 @ Los Angeles Clippers 113

Nov 16, Los Angeles - Memories of the Fisher 0.4 second game winner popped up again in the STAPLES center. The problem was that the Lakers were on the losing end of this one. With 1.3 seconds remaining, Chucky Atkins who shot 3-15 from the field, hit a jumper over Corey Maggete and recieved boos from the Clippers fans. The Lakers didn't have time to celebrate as Marko Jaric scored on a running layup with little time remaining to send the game into overtime.

"We had that game in our hands but we let them score a wide open layup," Caron Butler said disappointedly after the game. "Horrible defence. Horrible team defence!" Rudy Tomjanovic shouted at his players in the team locker room. He gave them a prep talk after the game so loud that reporters could hear him from the other end of the tunnel.

In the dying second of regulation, Kerry Kittles found Marko Jaric at the opposite side of the court with an inbound pass. The Lakers double teamed Corey Maggete leaving Jaric open and that was the defensive blunder which cost the Lakers the game. A demorilised Lakers squad went into the overtime period and didn't score in the last 3 minutes of the extra period. They were outscored by an outrageous 19-7 scoreline.

"It was just another bad game," Lamar Odom said who led the team with 23 points and 11 rebounds. The Lakers' losing streak extended to five. Brian Grant had another solid production with 16 and 13 as the whole team struggled to score from the field.

The Clippers were led by four players with 19+ points. Elton Brand had 25 and 12, Bobby Simmons on 23, Magette on 22 and Jaric on 19. "We all had our 'A' games going tonight," commented rookie center Chris Kaman who recorded a league high and career high 10 blocks.

Both teams kept the score close throughout the first half. But at the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters, the Clippers widened their margin to 12. Kobe Bryant then returned to the game after sitting out due to foul trouble and got the Lakers back into the game with 8:42 left at 84-84 but chaos struck with 7 minutes left in the game as Bryant took a hard charge from Elton Brand. Bryant sustained a minor back injury but never returned to the action.

"It was at that point we knew we had to pick up our games and play on a higher level," Chuck Atkins said. Bryant had led the Lakers with 31 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 rebounds.

The Clippers took advantage of Bryant's absence by taking more shots from outside and therefore freeing up the post as the Lakers struggled to contain the big men. "We need to learn how to play better inside defence," Lamar Odom commented.

Former Nets veteran Kerry Kittles talked about the win, "We were lucky that we got that layup in because that was the defining play of the match."

NOTES

This is the second injury of the season for Kobe Bryant who isn't known to be so vulnerable to them... The Lakers are now 1-5... The Clippers improved to 3-4... The game was played on the Clipper's 'homecourt'... The Lakers attempted their most shots in one game this season with 112... F Vince Carter of the Toronto Raptors suffered a sprained foot and will sit out two weeks...

Tough loss dude, sounds very emotional :D

I like how you use Kobe quite a lot, no offence ment to the others, but I think if you have Kobe you should use him to his potential.

MCGRADY HEATS UP IN SECOND HALF BUT ROCKETS LOSE

Houston Rockets 109 @ Los Angeles Lakers 118

Nov 25, Los Angeles - The Lakers rediscovered team defence and Yao Ming played horribly. Tracy Macgrady rediscovered his shooting touch in the second half but Bryant used hustle to beat him. The Rockets reserves played well in the first half but didn't in the second.

Nothing went Houston's way last night as the Los Angeles Lakers snapped a five game losing streak in a game which was won by Kobe Bryant in the last minute of regulation.

The Rockets battled to take over the game with over a minute remaing and took a 109-108 lead for their first lead of the game. Bryant who had been all over the court during th whole game struggled for a while during the last period as he picked up his 5th foul and sat out a few minutes. Kobe returned to the court and struggled to get past Tracy Mcgrady and relied on his teammates to score.

Unluckily for Houston Bryant came up clutch again. Bryant scored a wide open three pointer with 1:01 remaining and then stripped the ball off Mcgrady at the other end of the court before dunking the ball over Yao Ming and then completing a three point play with 0:43 left. The Rockets had no choice but to foul him and Brayant was able to sink four more free throws to reach his game high 47 points.

Despite the end result, Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy was pleased with his shooting guard's performance, "Tracy (Mcgrady) played so well in the second half, he definately picked up the slack of of Yao's back." Mcgrady scored 30 of his 41 points after the break and lead the Rockets back into the game they were initially losing after the first quarter.

"I knew Yao wasn't palying very well so I had to raise my game to that new level," Tracy said.

Tracy Mcgrady ended the game with 41 points (19-30 FG, 3-5 3PT), 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks. Rival Kobe Bryant finished on 47 points (18-36 FG, 10-11 FT), 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. "I take pride in matching up against Tracy. He's great player," Bryant said, "I can't wait to meet him in the playofs."

Yao Ming had 18 points and 11 rebounds but shot 7 for 18 from the field. Jim Jackson scored 22 points but also shot horribly on 9 for 22. The Lakers recieved 30 points from Lamar Odom and saw Brian Grant dominate the glass with 17 off the bench.

NOTES

It is a harsh reality that Kobe Bryant's playoff dreams are slighlty dashed as the Lakers are only 2-5 with a hard schedule up ahead but he still seems to be an amazing MVP candidate with stats of 28.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 7.9 apg and 4.14 spg on 50% shooting from the field... The Lakers had its first game with a turnover count in single figures... C/F Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs was sidelined with a broken finger on the 19/11 and is out for 2 weeks....

NOVEMBER PLAYERS OF THE MONTH

Image

Nov 30

The NBA announced it's NBA Players of the months today. Orlando Magic Forward Grant Hill and Minnesota Timberwolves Forward Kevin Garnett won the awards in their respective conferences.

Grant Hill is embarking on a new chapter of his career after spending the last 4 years injured from the game with numerous ankle rehab sessions and 2 surgeries on his shattered ankle. During the preseason, Hill was careful about his ankle but of recent times, he has given his full potential to the young Magic team which is 6-5.

His all-around play has earned the respect of opponents and has earned him the Eastern Conference NBA Player of the Month for November. His stats of 16.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 5.1 apg and 1.91 spg don't speak the full volume of how much Hill is worth to the Magic.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Kevin Garnett won the West's equivilent of the award. Garnett averaged 18.4 ppg, 12.5 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.8 bpg and 1.7 spg. Garnett led the Timberwolves to a 7-3 record through the first month of NBA play.

His value to Minnesota was beyond his stats as he helped the Timberwolves ease talks over fellow teammate Sam Cassel's contract woes. Coach Flip Saunders said, "He is a great asset to the team. His game and character are both very mature and he takes a positive outlook on the game."

GOTMILK? NOVEMBER AWARDS

Nov 30

Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic beat his rookie rival Emeka Okafor to grab November's Rookie of the Month honours along with Devin Harris of the Dallas Mavericks.

The 6'11" rookie who came out of high school to be selected first overall provides a strong presence in the Magic frontcourt as he has surprised most people with his speedy development. His average scoring of 15.2 ppg is second behind Okafor by 0.1 ppg for all rookies. His 9.5 rpg is also second behind Okafor but he leads his team in that category. His 3.2 apg, 1.36 spg and 1.36 bpg help support his claim to being comparable to NBA MVP Kevin Garnett.

Devin Harris, a 6'3" point guard out of Wisconsin was rewarded with a starting position ahead of Jason Terry. The young player hasn't disappointed Don Nelson's orginisation by fitting into his role as a distributor for German sharpshooter Dirk Nowitzki. Harris averaged 10 ppg, 4 rpg, 4 apg and 1.57 spg while Dallas was led to a 4-3 record.

Other candidates for the award were: Emeka Okafor, CHA Ben Gordon, CHI Andres Nocioni, CHI Chris Kaman, LAC Keith McLeod, UTH

BRYANT PERFECT ON BOTH ENDS OF FLOOR

Indiana Pacers 91 @ Los Angeles Lakers 114

Dec 4, Los Angeles - Kobe Bryant played stellar defence, swept the defensive glass, found his teammates and had a perfect offensive games plus highlight reel dunks throughout the game. Bryant had one of his best games this season and the Lakers improved to 3-5 and won their second straight game.

The Pacers got off to a hot start sinking 4 straight three point baskets while the Lakers had another injury woe. Third year Forward Caron Butler left the game early after sustaining a lower back strain on a drive to the basket. He didn't return and has been advised to sit out for one week. It was forward Lamar Odom who kept the Lakers in the game during the first quarter as he scored 15 of his 25 points in the first period however, Kobe Bryant took over from then on.

Bryant who was forced to match up against 03-04 Defensive Player of the Year Ron Artest and did an excellent defensive job on Artest and limited the player to 7-27 shooting while also scoring at will against the defensive stalwat. Bryant shot 18-20 from the field.

The Lakers broke away on an 18-0 run early in the second quarter and extended their margin with an 11-0 ruin in the third. The Lakers entered the fourth period up by 17 points but Indiana were able to fight to decrease the margin to 9 with slightly over 6 minutes remaining.

They found Bryant's team on a bad day as Kobe came out of a late timeout to score 12 of his 15 fourth quarter points in a row during the final half of the fourth quarter. He finished with 41 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

He was supported by great play from Lamar Odom who had 25 points and 14 rebounds and sixth man Brian Grant who notched up 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Pacers were spearheaded by Jermaine O'neals' close triple double of 21, 11 and 9 blocks. Stephen Jackson lent a hand with 18 points while Ron Artest tried his best against Bryant on 18 points also but misfiring on 13 three point shots.

"I let myself get a bit too intimidated by Kobe Bryant tonight," Artest said, "But I have to say he has improved quite a lot over the past year." Jermaine O'neal commented, "The Lakers are no longer a powerhouse but they are still a good young team. Maybe one day they will be NBA championship worthy."

Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovic who has recently been glum about his team's efforts was joyus over their new-found success, "I don't want to jinx us but we are finally playing well. Kobe and Lamar are doing great by leading the way!"

NOTES

Despite recent rumours, Los Angeles downplays a possible trade with the Bobcats which would send Kareem Rush there for a draft pick. Rush has found considerable success averaging 10 ppg off the bench... Caron Butler should miss the Lakers next game against the Chicago Bulls... The lakers are dominating the rebounding statistics this season and Coach Rudy T has no reason for it... Legend Michael Jordan has hinted on appearing at the United Center when his 'heir apparent' arrives to play...
