Clippers, Is This The Season?

Tue Nov 30, 2004 7:28 pm

After all those miserable times, there was so much of hype when they had d-mile, q-rich, brand, c-maggette, mcinnis together...but they messed up after the trade of D-Mile for Dre....

but now they seriously look good, they beat the Cavs today n Wilcox has gone from Bust to Bravo...hes definitely fav for MIP n Livingston looks like a star in the makin, hes passing is just awesome for a 19 year old.

I think Coach Dunleavy has installed a tough and winning mentality, however shit his son plays I think his father is doing something right and bringing some family pride.

The Clippers might actually make the playoffs and even maybe take over LA at least for this season....I think though there still short of a big man and they need more depth to become a step higher.

I bandwagoned the Clips when my fav player Dre(yay 2 good games straight up now) was traded...but then he played so shitty n so did the clipz ...I aint gonna bandwagon them but its just good to see some pride restored to such a terrible ballclub...

hopefully the Clippers can go UPWARDS from here and not spiral downwards again.

Now if only the Warriors n Hawks could start doing something

It's too early to be sure so I won't go out on a limb with a bold prediction, but this is definitely a good start for them, their best in years. If they keep playing as they have through their first 15 or so games, making the playoffs is a realistic goal. The question is, even if they make the playoffs this season will they be dismantled next year and fall back into their usual cycle?

Their usual cycle would have been not resigning magette and brand.

Steve Kerr can be a funny bastard sometimes...

My 12-year-old son Nick was thumbing through the Clippers media guide the other day when he said to me, "Dad, do you realize that in their history, the Clips have a losing record against every single NBA franchise?"

I wasn't sure which was more shocking: my bad parenting (I've raised a child who spends his time looking at the Clippers' media guide?!), or the ineptitude of one of sports' losingest franchises. A losing record against every team they've ever played against? Think about that. ...

haha, Kerrs a legend.

Well, Clippers are 9th atm....i doubt that they'll make the playoffs but i hope they do

I got to give the Clippers credit, they are really showing some signs of life this season.

Bobby Simmons has been incredible, Jaric has been incredible and so has Brand. Yesterday they played an amazing game despite being banged yp.

But seeing as they are in the West I doubt they will make the playoffs, but watching them play is nice, especially the way they pass the ball.

quinton ross was just named to the top 10 rookies list
http://www.nba.com/milk_rookie/rankings_041129.html

mikki moore, jaric, bobby simmons and rick brunson... they are all playing so well right now....

but its also jaric and simmon's contract year.....

every couple of years it looks like they're starting to get their shit together, and then they mess it all up. i won't get my hopes up, but i'll keep a wish in the back of my mind.

Yeah its funny how certain players tend to play better on their last contract year...(Ray Allen, Dampier last year and others i cant think of right now...)

I'm pretty dissapointed at the who cares votes, but I think it can be a reality this season as long as Brand and Jaric stay healthy. Jaric is not superstar, but he's the only capable starter who can run the offense.

The difference between this years team and previous years is that people aren't playing to pad stats or for contracts later on, they're playing defense not only Brand, and also the lack of a massive amount of injuries [their's been some but they've been played through].

Also the amount of trust players have for each other, and the teamwork is very encouraging. 10-6

but its also jaric and simmon's contract year.....

..Jaric has been injured a lot also, but Simmons couldn't do this before, his jumpshot has become money, and he's even expanded his range, Jordan really liked him because he was a good player but he never had the offensive talent, but started developing it last season, and has worked on it. So his already good defense + his now offensive skills help a lot.

lol wtf that was so random

back on topic, i can't really picture them making the playoffs.. they still haven't matured yet, meaning they don't know how to close out games etc. i think if they land someone like j. kidd then they'll make the playoffs for sure

Tue Dec 21, 2004 4:16 am

my personal opinion is that they wont make the playoffs this year. But if they can keep the group together the team could be a force in a few years. Im loving the play of maggette, brand and simmons...and when you add that many scouts have shaun livingston rated as the rookie with the most upside, things start to look up for the clips.

Much Love to the Clippers!! :)

Tue Dec 21, 2004 5:03 am

i think they might do decent this year but not playoffs

Don't worry about it....actually yes you should, ince the team has like 9 road gams in January, and their schedule starts to get harder.

this is definitely true. I liked the Clips back in 2001 with Odom, Brand, Miles, Magette and Richardson. They alomst made the playoffs but then they trade miles for Andre Miller when (1) he only stayed for one season and (2) they didn't need Miller cuz Jaric was coming in too with Dooling as a backup.

When they almost made the playoffs Odom only played 26 games, and it was in 2002 and because of Jeff McInnis and Elton Brand, and also because the team was actually healthy for the most part [excluding Odom]. Maggette also missed 20 or soe games, but it was okay.

When Andre Miller came, he was the only healthy player along with Sean Rooks. Brand [62], Maggette [64], Q [59], Odom [49], Kandi [36]. Dooling [55], Jaric [66] all got injured, so no their was expectiations, but you can't do anything from the IL or Bench.

Last year Q, Brand, Maggette, Wilcox, and Jaric all got injured, and towards the end it was Brand and Maggette with Dooling, Overton and Kaman, so the injury bug seems to have cursed the team in it's recent years.

Brand has been injured this year, had a wrist injury, and his knee was sore, he was limping in some games, but he's a worker, he only goes out when he really really can't play.

The team hasn't had the depth this year thought with Kittles being out, and Livingston going down, but they could make the playoffs as a last seed or miss it barely.
