jesus! surely toronto could get more for vince. this trade BLOWS.

by the way, carter and rose to the BLAZERS. they're already on the raptors

Fri Nov 19, 2004 10:26 am

That's a really really bad trade. Good for Portland if they can do it, and don't start the Jalen bashing... he's pretty good when he wants to be.

Hmm... Vince Carter + Jalen Rose for Abdur Rahim. I don't really understand this at all :?

Fri Nov 19, 2004 10:35 am

look at all the big names swapped this summer...shaq, t-mac, steve francis, etc........and toronto holds onto vince just long enough so they can trade him for ABDUR-RAHIM?

Fri Nov 19, 2004 10:36 am

me neither...i know portland are going to become some serious playoff contenders now. stoudamire, vc, rose, randolph, randolph...when the grizz played the blazers last night, they were talking about the SF spot being full and that the blazers were probably going to get rid of rahim out of miles and patterson.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 11:18 am

man that trade would be so retarded if they accepted that vince carter and jalen rose can be traded to another team for much better players then that.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 11:45 am

Wow, bad trade for Toronto. But the Raptors are Bosh's team in 2 yaers.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 12:29 pm

I don't know why Toronto would do this trade...unless they just HAVE to get rid of Vince and Jalen is really starting to test their patience (as he does with every team.)

Where would Abdur-Rahim play? Small Forward? He doesn't like playing that position, and I sincerely doubt they're going to move Bosh to Center or 6th man.

As for value...Jalen is good, but he's a big time attitude problem, and I think that's what Portland is trying to rid themselves of. Vince is good, but is a shadow of his former self (15 points per? 3 boards?!).

It's so strange though, the trade will probably happen.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 12:37 pm

lol, I think the Raptor's GM might of been high last night and Portland is just taking advantage of it.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 12:55 pm

lol this trade better not happen cuz if it does then babcock is one screwed up dork i'll probably go on to liking the heat as my fav team if this happens cuz who would wanna like a team that get's ripped off a dumb trade like that one.

You're speaking for the both of us...

I think it's a good trade for Toronto.

Business-wise it's awesome. They get rid of Jalen's huge contract, along with Vince's. They get SAR's contract, which is huge... but is on it's LAST YEAR!!

Vince isn't that good. Reef can pretty much score as much at ease as he can.

Your team is better off without Jalen Rose. Derek Anderson is better.

The only bad thing i can see about it is that Vince Carter is more popular, and ticket sales could drop. Oh, and it kinda sucks that Reef and Bosh play the same position... luckily they're both versatile. But it will only be for one more year!

Fri Nov 19, 2004 1:34 pm

They should just trade Vince Carter and Jalen Rose for Reef and an iPod.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 2:15 pm

business wise it sucks, not many are as marketable as carter. Don't be suprise to never see anther sell out

Fri Nov 19, 2004 2:24 pm

We still don't know the other two "unnamed" players Toronto is giving up.

Unless Toronto is trying to make some big free agent moves next offseason then this is a terrible trade. As somebody mentioned earlier, losing Vince may or may not help you with your wins and losses. But Vince is the heart of this franchise, take him away ane you might as well take away the crowd at home games and all the energy the Raptors have.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 2:31 pm

They could play Abdur-Rahim at center and Bosh at power forward against small teams, and Reef at pf, Bosh at sf sgainst big teams. Bosh already plays most of his game from about mid-range, so the post wouldn;t be too clogged. Phoenix has been starting Amare at center so they could easily get away with Reef.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 2:36 pm

this would be a good trade for the blazers but would be a shitty one for toronto.. every team that abdur rahim has gone to, they've missed the playoffs; he's surely not gonna help TO in that department.. if i was babcock i wouldn't even think about pulling off this trade.. i think abdur rahim's best days are behind him

Fri Nov 19, 2004 2:57 pm

Has it been Rahim's curse on the teams he's played on? or has the teams he's played on cursed him? hmmm....

(N) not at all, they get redundant players on the team, SHareef was angry in Portland because he was playing SF, or coming off the bench, he won't be happy doing the same in Toronto, and he's not starting over Bosh.

NVE will also be coming off the bench behind Rafer, therefore it's another redundant player.

The Raptors will get cap space, but let's be serious here we aren't front runners for the big name player in the FA market.
Ray Allen would get more money in Seattle, Michael Redd will not be looking at Toronto when we don't have anything special for him to be going to, we won't give him more money than others, and we aren't his hometown Ohio.

Zydrunas Ilguaskas would be stupid not to re-sign wiht Cleveland and Lebron, and what do we have left, Sromile Swift, Ronald Murray? Joe Johnson could be decent, but what in Toronto would make him want to go there as opposed to somewhere like Denver?

We won't have a winning team, so what's going to attract them?

Fri Nov 19, 2004 4:39 pm

well, thats the question Utah was asking itself.....who the hell would VOLUNTARILY want to play for Utah? nobody.....until they had $$$$.

Fri Nov 19, 2004 4:55 pm

no---utah is a team with a tradition and a history.

toronto's tradition and history is....uh...vince....

good point though, but i mean there is NOTHING else besides money to make Toronto attractive to a player (except maybe the uniforms  )...but Utah at least has the history going for it

Fri Nov 19, 2004 8:43 pm

I wouldnt mind vince if he picked up his game

but Ill pass on Jalen Rose

Fri Nov 19, 2004 10:26 pm

Maybe they could do better, but I get pissed off watching Carter play. He doesn't want to play defence and he rarely tries to drive. It's really frustrating to watch players who are much less athletic drive past Carter and to watch Carter put on his pouting whiney face and bitch to the officials. I'm about ready to ship his underachieving ass out of Toronto, and I wish the Carter for Allen trade in the summer had been true.

I agree that Rose can be good when he wants to, but he is a notorious play breaker and has demonstrated it several times this season. If the Raptors can get someone dumb enough to take on his contract, I say do it.

I don't think this trade will make Portland serious playoff contenders. I remember hearing the same thing when the Raptors traded Stoudamire and Walt Williams to the Blazers, and they never really accomplished much. They did win a few playoff series, but never made it to the finals. I don't think Carter will take a team to the next level.

If the Raptors can get Shareef and Derek Anderson (I would prefer Anderson to Van Exel) I wouldn't be upset. As a Canadian, I also get sentimental over Shareef (because of his time with Vancouver) and wouldn't mind seeing him play in Toronto.

No matter from which angle you look at it, it's a bad deal for Toronto.

Carter, despite his injuries, is marketable. People come in to watch him. I think the hope is still there that he'll be back, people still expect him to soar as he used to. Sooner or later he'll be back, I have that much faith left. He'll surely be in the All Star game.

Abdur-Rahim isn't a franchise player, Vince is. Who cares if Shareef has a last year contract? They need people to come watch, right? Not alot of people want to watch Shareef otherwise Atlanta wouldn't have traded him. Ask yourself, who would you rather watch, Shareef or Vince? Says enough.

About playing Shareef at the C postion, it's possible but knowing Shareef he'd play a few games at C & then begin to whine about it not being his position. Everything's possible, doesn't mean he'll like doing it though.

About him being in the last year of his contract, what good is it for Toronto? They'll have a load of money and not alot of people to spend it on. I can only think of Canadians that would like to play there, Nash is off the market which leaves Magloire. I don't think he's the ideal person to go after in the offseason if you're letting Vince walk off. Other big named players would like to stay in the States as much as possible.

Besides, having money doesn't mean you'll land the player. See: Clippers.

That trade blows & I highly doubt it'll happen. Unless Babcock (that is the GM, right?) has gone insane.
