Season Review – Lottery Teams

30. Charlotte Bobcats (29-53)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Raymond Felton (79), D.J. Augustin (72), Raja Bell (71), Mike Miller (70)

A severe hangover for the NBA’s youngest franchise. All seems lost after the magic of last season. Time to clean house and build around a top draft pick. Gerald Wallace and Tyson Chandler are both valuable trade pieces that could provide further picks for the rebuild.

29. Boston Celtics (29-52)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Ray Allen (79),

The heavyweight era of these Celtics is truly over once and for all. With Ray Allen not being re-signed at the deadline, he’s likely to chase another ring at a contender. It wouldn’t be out of the question to see the same happen with Kevin Garnett during the offseason, with an injury stalling any trade negotiations at the deadline. The Celtics still have a franchise PG and exciting prospects in Andrew Nicholson, Jordan Crawford and new Great White Hope Chandler Parsons.

28. Detroit Pistons (32-50)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Ben Gordon (76) (P), Luke Ridnour (71)

Another lacklustre year for the Pistons, still suffering from horrible contracts and underperforming prospects. Enes Kanter seems to have regressed, and the bold prediction of Ben Gordon for Sixth Man of the Year was not even close. The Motor City needs a star, hopefully with a high pick and the developing Harrison Barnes it can spur some optimism in Detroit.

27. Dallas Mavericks (33-49)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Jason Terry (77), Rodrigue Beaubois (77), Josh Howard (70)

These Mavs are not getting any younger. After a WCF appearance only two years ago, the Mavericks seem to be collapsing as they easily swing to the highest average age in the league. It’s unspeakable to think that Dirk is going anywhere, but who can they grab for him to mentor to lead a new generation of Mavericks?

26. Washington Wizards (34-48)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Baron Davis (74)

An injury to Baron Davis almost served as a blessing in disguise, as Evan Turner shone for the Wizards at PG. Competing for Playoff contention until only a few weeks left in the season, the Capital could be on the way to a postseason berth in the near future.

25. Cleveland Cavaliers (34-48)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: None

The Cavaliers look primed to shoot up the ranks next season, with some veteran pieces now around their young core, Nicolas Batum looks sure to break out, while J.R. Smith pours it on from anywhere on the floor.

24. Toronto Raptors (35-47)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Mo Williams (78)

The Bosh & Butler Raptors have been underwhelming to say the least, not helped with a major injury to their primed future star Demar DeRozan. On top of their aging stars, Tristan Thompson hasn’t hit anywhere near his #2 pick expectations now through his second season, putting more pressure on the Toronto front office to make sure their next pick provides some future hope in The North.

23. Golden State Warriors (35-47)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Stephen Jackson (78), Corey Maggette (74)

A Championship to missing the playoffs. Many could claim that last season’s Championship success was a fluke, and there’s a lot of evidence that backs that up. Stephen Curry looks set to break out, and with Eric Gordon also providing dangerous backcourt scoring, the interior of the Warriors needs a re-structure, as well as a possible replacement of swingman captain Stephen Jackson to bring these Warriors back to the top of the mountain.

22. Milwaukee Bucks (35-47)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Michael Redd (73)

Was this a year too early to bet on the Bucks? Paul George may have collected All-Defense First Team honours, but Milwaukee seemed out of gear for the second half of the season. There’s no doubt a promising future in George and PG Kemba Walker, but another season with this sort of finishing position will no doubt be a massive disappointment.

21. Denver Nuggets (36-46)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Jarrett Jack (82)

The rebuild continues for the Nuggets, who actually improved after losing two of their longtime veterans for younger counterparts in Mario Chalmers & DeAndre Jordan. The Mile High City looks set to struggle again next year in a tough Northwest Division, however further progression from their young stars should hopefully see the Nuggets continue their rise back up the West ranks.

20. Phoenix Suns (36-46)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Jason Richardson (73), Terrence Williams (72), Brandon Rush (71), Jerryd Bayless (71)

Not a disappointing result for the Suns after going 7-0 to start the season before losing franchise PG John Wall for the entire year. The Suns will need to do some re-signing of key young pieces this offseason, but will hopefully bounce back in full force with Wall back in the lineup for the 2013-14 season.

19. Portland Trail Blazers (38-44)
Notable upcoming Free Agents:

A mix-up of personnel for the Trail Blazers at the deadline wasn’t enough to get them into the tight West mix for the postseason. A major highlight for the Blazers has been the outstanding rookie season from Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard, filling the void left by the retiring Steve Nash, and giving Portland a bright future. With LaMarcus Aldridge also established as a genuine star, we shouldn’t be talking about the Blazers outside Playoff contention for the next several years.

18. Los Angeles Clippers (41-41)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Monta Ellis (83) (P), Gilbert Arenas (76) (P), Lance Stephenson (75),

After consecutive top 3 finishes in the Conference, The Clippers spent it all this season to get back to the upper echelon, but limped to a 41-41 record. After no doubt exercising their amnesty clause on Gilbert Arenas’ 20+ million-dollar player option in the first day of the offseason, the Clippers will have a lot to think about, as they try to appease stars Carmelo Anthony & Blake Griffin and fight back against their clear status as underachievers.

17. New Orleans Hornets (41-41)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Darren Collison (76)

Definitely a sour way to end a true breakout year for the Hornets as they finally seem to breaking beyond the hole that CP3 left them with. With young talent in Tobias Harris, Andre Drummond and scoring machine Klay Thompson, plus an All-NBA PF in David Lee, the Hornets should be back at the top of the Conference in no time.

Re: The 2K10 & Beyond Project - Season 12/13: First Round Completed Series

Postby jubba910 on Fri Mar 26, 2021 3:09 pm

Playoffs: First Round Completed Series

Western Conference

(1) Oklahoma City Thunder vs (8) San Antonio Spurs

Game 1: SA 96 @ OKC 94, Chris Paul - 19 pts, 6 ast
Game 2: SA 109 @ OKC 100, Manu Ginobili - 20 pts, 6 ast
Game 3: OKC 94 @ OKC 69, Kevin Durant - 26 pts, 13 reb
Game 4: OKC 116 @ SA 110, Russell Westbrook - 44 pts, 10 reb, 7 ast
Game 5: SA 61 @ OKC 127, Kevin Durant - 40 pts, 14 reb
Game 6: OKC 114 @ SA 112, Russell Westbrook - 33 pts, 10 ast
OKC wins 4-2

After a valiant fight from the #8 seed Spurs, the Thunder managed to avoid a second straight first round exit, putting themselves well on the path to securing their second championship in three years.

(2) Los Angeles Lakers vs (7) Houston Rockets
Game 1: HOU 93 @ LAL 129, Kobe Bryant - 25 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast
Game 2: HOU 116 @ LAL 106, Andre Iguodala - 25 pts, 8 reb, 6 ast
Game 3: LAL 87 @ HOU 118, Kyle Lowry - 23 pts, 10 ast, 5 reb
Game 4: LAL 106 @ HOU 102, Kobe Bryant - 27 pts, 8 reb
Game 5: HOU 92 @ LAL 96, Andrew Bynum - 19 pts, 16 reb
Game 6: LAL 113 @ HOU 109, Kobe Bryant - 26 pts, 8 reb
LAL wins 4-2

The Lakers stop a second straight first round win for the Rockets from the 7th seed. Kobe & co continue their chase for his fifth ring.

(3) Memphis Grizzlies vs (6) Sacramento Kings
Game 1: SAC 99 @ MEM 96, Paul Pierce - 19 pts
Game 2: SAC 86 @ MEM 92, Mike Conley - 19 pts, 9 ast, 5 reb
Game 3: MEM 89 @ SAC 100, Brandon Jennings - 18 pts, 9 reb, 5 reb
Game 4: MEM 109 @ SAC 104, Rudy Gay - 23 pts, 10 reb
Game 5: SAC 76 @ MEM 108, Mike Conley - 20 pts, 7 ast, 6 reb
Game 6: MEM 107 @ SAC 106, Mike Conley - 24 pts, 9 ast
MEM wins 4-2

The Grizzlies find themselves in the second round after a tough battle with the Kings, now facing a veteran squad of Lakers as they continue to cash in on their youthful gritty play.

Eastern Conference

(1) Chicago Bulls vs (8) Orlando Magic
Game 1: ORL 103 @ CHI 132, Joakim Noah - 21 pts, 15 reb, 5 ast
Game 2: ORL 92 @ CHI 107, Luol Deng - 20 pts, 7 ast, 6 reb
Game 3: CHI 113 @ ORL 88, Jose Calderon - 25 pts, 14 ast, 3 stl
Game 4: CHI 114 @ ORL 103, Delonte West - 21 pts, 7 reb
CHI wins 4-0

With no Derrick Rose, Delonte West stepped up majorly, top scoring in three of the four matchups against a returning Brook Lopez and the Magic. Can West and the Bulls retain this hot streak into the second round?

(2) Miami Heat vs (7) New York Knicks
Game 1: NY 96 @ MIA 113, Kyrie Irving - 18 pts, 6 ast, 3 stl
Game 2: NY 99 @ MIA 119, Kyrie Irving - 27 pts, 18 ast
Game 3: MIA 110 @ NY 95, Kyrie Irving - 35 pts
Game 4: MIA 95 @ NY 96, LeBron James - 24 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast
Game 5: NY 95 @ MIA 105, Kyrie Irving - 28 pts, 14 ast
MIA wins 4-1

A truly commanding performance by the Miami Heat, highlighted by sophomore superstar Kyrie Irving, as LeBron and the Knicks again fail to make any sort of postseason impact.

(3) Brooklyn Nets vs (6) Atlanta Hawks
Game 1: ATL 92 @ BKN 107, Dwight Howard - 36 pts, 14 reb
Game 2: ATL 102 @ BKN 97, Joe Johnson - 19 pts, 6 reb
Game 3: BKN 104 @ ATL 108, Josh Smith - 29 pts, 15 reb
Game 4: BKN 80 @ ATL 99, Josh Smith - 21 pts, 13 reb
Game 5: ATL 97 @ BKN 93, Jamal Crawford - 36 pts
ATL wins 4-1

The Hawks' experience pays off again, taking their third straight first round matchup victory as a lower seed. Can they make their way back to the NBA Finals for the second time in 3 years?

(4) Philadelphia 76ers vs (5) Indiana Pacers
Game 1: IND 86 @ PHI 105, Jrue Holiday - 25 pts, 6 reb, 6 ast
Game 2: IND 100 @ PHI 133, Jrue Holiday - 40 pts, 12 ast, 4 stl
Game 3: PHI 94 @ IND 106, Ty Lawson - 23 pts, 10 ast
Game 4: PHI 98 @ IND 104, Danny Granger - 25 pts, 7 reb
Game 5: IND 90 @ PHI 93, Taj Gibson - 18 pts, 9 reb
Game 6: PHI 115 @ IND 99, Trevor Ariza - 16 pts, 10 reb, 6 ast
PHI wins 4-2

In what most would see as the biggest darkhorse of the Playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers are on their way to the second round, lead by exciting PG Jrue Holiday. With the dynamic backcourt of Holiday & Lou Williams pouring on the points, the Bulls will have their hands full.

Conference Semifinals: Playoff Tree

Image

Season Review – First Round Eliminations

16. Orlando Magic (36-46)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Jameer Nelson (75), Brandon Bass (71), Rudy Fernandez (70)

When Dwight Howard left via trade in the preseason, almost no one had the Magic chalked up as an Eastern Conference Playoff team. Brook Lopez was fantastic for Orlando, again making All-NBA honours for the 3rd time in 4 years. As their young core grows, next year could have the Magic in even better position.

15. San Antonio Spurs (41-41)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Chris Paul (94), Manu Ginobili (86), DeJuan Blair (72), Tiago Splitter (71)

All hope looked to be lost for this season for the Spurs when they sent their two stars of Tim Duncan and Tony Parker to the Knicks for Chris Paul and Danilo Gallinari, however their post-All Star break form was phenomenal, bouncing up from the bottom three of the West to making the playoffs with a .500 record. It’s a new era for the Spurs with CP3 at the helm, who looks certain to return with a new contract next year, but will Ginobili stay? Or will they look to turn a completely new page in 2013-14?

14. New York Knicks (41-41)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Tim Duncan (87), Shannon Brown (76),

An absolute nightmare in the Big Apple, failing to take advantage of their All-Star additions to make a fully fledge push in the Playoffs. After finishing first in the Conference last season and fizzling in the playoffs to another first round exit this season from the 8th seed, LeBron’s legacy in New York has done nothing to prove the doubters wrong, and it seems the Knicks are seemingly at a crossroads.

13. Houston Rockets (41-41)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Jonny Flynn (73), Chase Budinger (71)

Just scraping into the playoffs was certainly not the plan for the Rockets this season, as the Iguodala-Stoudemire connection struggled to maintain enough steam over the 82-game season. Houston feels like they need one more piece to make this team a true contender, however have a star of the future in Kyle Lowry who continues to shine.

12. Sacramento Kings (43-39)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Brandon Jennings (83)

Another solid season from the Kings, who have transformed back from a joke to a serious contender that they used to be. Brandon Jenning’s upcoming FA could see their star PG walk out of the door, but with their promising roster, there’s hope that he’ll stay put to help lead the Kings to the promised land with their veteran addition of Paul Pierce.

11. Indiana Pacers (44-38)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Ty Lawson (85), Vince Carter (80)

After a terrific season for Ty Lawson, the Pacers seem to be in good hands if he re-signs. The Pacers have built a solid roster, however definitely lack one more piece to place them in the upper echelon of the East. Could the Pacers add that piece this offseason? Or ship off either of their promising centers in Hibbert or Vucevic for more help?

10. Utah Jazz (45-47)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Deron Williams (88), Paul Millsap (83)

With the Jazz’s two major stars of the current Williams and Millsap both up for free agency, the top 4 finish the year after winning the Draft Lottery has to put them in good stead to remain their services. Anthony Davis looks like a bonafide star, and as long as there’s decent talent around him, the city of Utah looks to be in good hands for the next decade at least.

9. Brooklyn Nets (45-37)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Landry Fields (73)

A lack of experience outside of star C Dwight Howard looked to be the problem with their first round exit against the veteran Hawks, and leaves the city of Brooklyn with a sour taste in their mouth after their first official season. Boozer and Howard’s massive contracts look to likely be a hindrance to their free agency pursuits, but could likely follow the Clippers path in trading in some major talent with the likes of promising Dion Waiters in the wings.

Conference Finals: Playoff Tree

Image

Season Review – Conference Semifinals Eliminations

8. Atlanta Hawks (41-41)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Jeff Teague (75), John Salmons (72)

After a surprise victory over the #3 Nets, the Hawks proved how dangerous they still truly are. With their big 3 locked up, eyes now look to add Jeff Teague to the long-term mix as the Hawks continue to be a mainstay in the Eastern Conference, and try to make their way back to the Finals.

7. Minnesota Timberwolves (44-38)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Nikola Pekovic (78), Drew Gooden (70)

Heavily outmatched against the Thunder without their star Kevin Love, the Wolves still proved plenty in their first playoff appearance in almost a decade. With a ton of fresh young talent in the wings and most of them locked up long-term, this is just the tip of the iceberg for Minnesota.

6. Memphis Grizzlies (47-35)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Chuck Hayes (72)

After a less than ideal finish last year with the talent they had on paper, the Grizzlies were terrific this season finishing in the top 3. After just falling short with a valiant 0-3 fightback against the Lakers, it’s likely they could’ve been a true test for the Thunder in the Conference Finals. On top of their plethora of starting talent, young Eric Bledsoe and Kawhi Leonard could be the most lethal tag team in the NBA next season.

5. Chicago Bulls (57-25)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Delonte West (80), Andrei Kirilenko (78), Jose Calderon (75)

Losing Derrick Rose in the last week of the regular season doesn’t do this team justice, with the Bulls still managing a first round sweep of the Magic before being picked apart by the Sixers. Veteran Delonte West shined after his acquisition midway through the season, and with him hopefully returning with other seasoned pieces in AK47 & Jose Calderon, the Bulls could be on their way to another top of the East season in 2013-14.

NBA Finals: Playoff Tree

Season Review – Conference Finals Eliminations

4. Los Angeles Lakers (57-25)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Andrew Bynum (87), Mickael Pietrus (71)

Making the Conference Finals felt all for none once Kobe Bryant went down, as the Lakers now look to be officially heading into a twilight period. Hoping to avoid the collapse that saw their long-time rival Boston wallow at the bottom of the standings, the Lakers may need to re-arrange their roster at the cost of Kobe not getting another ring.

3. Miami Heat (50-32)
Notable upcoming Free Agents: Toney Douglas (72), Jermaine O’Neal (71), Al Harrington (71), Quentin Richardson (70)

This season looked primed for Miami to make their way back to the NBA Finals, though their Conference Finals collapse is a worrying sign. As Wade now ticks into his 30’s, this team looks to form more and more around Kyrie Irving, and that future looks very bright. An aging frontcourt has been a constant struggle for this team, and the loss of Elton Brand no doubt played a part in finishing short of a Championship. The Heat need an interior stopper for the future, what moves can they make in the offseason to find one?

Finals Preview: Oklahoma City Thunder vs Philadelphia 76ers

After dominating the regular season, the Oklahoma City Thunder look set to win their second championship in three years, unless a fresh face who's beaten both the #1 & #2 seeds on their way to their first Finals series since 2001 pulls off a third straight upset.

Previous matchups

24/11: OKC 116 @ PHI 70
4/1: PHI 99 @ OKC 97

A Darkhorse vs A Dynasty

Image Image

The Thunder have looked close to unstoppable this year, with their trio of MVP Russell Westbrook, last year's Kevin Durant and All-NBA SG James Harden dominating their way to a 65-win season, and two series sweeps leading into The Finals. On the other side they face a gritty defensive stalwart in the Philadelphia 76ers, who no one would assume would be in this position following trading their resident star in Andre Iguodala at last years deadline. Jrue Holiday and Louis Williams have been an offensive force, with the latter in particular shining in the Conference Finals as Jrue sat with an ankle injury. But compared to the offensive power of Thunder's Big 3, they appear to be completely outgunned and unmanned.

Ariza returns to the Finals stage once again

Image

After helping Houston secure their championship in 2010 following his success in Los Angeles in 2009, Trevor Ariza now finds himself back in a title winning position with a much different cast of characters than his previous campaigns. After being shipped off to Philadelphia as part of a package that landed H-Town with All-Star Andre Iguodala, Ariza looked set to be a piece on the trading block as the Sixers rebuild. However with the rise of Jrue Holiday and the valuable contributions from the likes of Taj Gibson and Avery Bradley, Ariza now finds himself in the heart and soul of a Sixers defense on the verge of a trophy. Can Ariza's Championship experience help this unproven squad taste the title winning champagne he tasted only a few years ago and become only the third player in NBA History to win three rings with three different franchises?

MVP Duo on their way to cementing greatness

Image

After making history as the only teammates to ever win back to back MVP's, the Oklahoma City Thunder look set to make a statement after last year's disappointing first round exit at the expense of the inexperienced Sixers. With a minor speedbump last year, the Westrbook-Durant connection looks to be the most dangerous duo the league has seen since Kobe & Shaq in the early 2000's. Will they cement their legacy and win their second championship at the age of only 24?

The smart money is on the Thunder, and yet, sim engines are often unpredictable.
