I actually though that they would be a good team this year
Not after reading that.lol
its between them and Washington for the worst division champion

Bah, all of those f'ing huge contracts. Thank God penny's expires at the end of this year. Too many overpaid guys. Well I expect Jamal Crawford and Stephon Marbury to complete (arguably) the best back court in the League. Too bad they don't have a solid front court yet.

Well knowing Isaiah, he'll be looking to do something big...Too bad their 1st rd. draft pick is gone in the trade for Marbury. I think NY is better than they were last year and will probably make the playoffs at a 7 or 8 seed.

Dude, there's a reason this team hasn't won a title since I was in 7th grade - 30+ years of mismanagement. Instead of rebuilding when they should, the front office overpays for free agents just so the Knicks can make the playoffs and maybe win a few games. All the suits care about is filling MSG in May, so they can jack up ticket & cable prices the following season. Isiah will try his best, but he has to answer to the second worst owner in the NBA(Sterling is #1).

you cant count them out just yet
Isiah know he needs a big body
he's gonna trade Kurt Thomas to get that player
that would be the smart thang ta do
but he's a crazy man sometimes
who knows

So far the only deal for Kurt Thomas would be a three way between the Nets, Knicks and T'Wolves.
So looks like Wally Szcerbiak will be their big man?

HA
a good idea would be to try to get Shareef

Knicks payroll...seriously, it's easier to wait a few years than to to trade for more bad contracts..honestly, payroll will be a issue as long as Marbury+Houston is together
2006/2007 is when Houston deal is done, and the payroll will be 36million after that season ( but marbury is holding 20 of that lol)
till then we gotta live with this payroll
anyway off the payroll and onto the season..I thought it would of been a good year possibly since everyone will finally get to gel together (houston was out for most of last season end) but Isiah wants to trade Kurt Thomas ( a year ago everyone wanted him) and Shandon Anderson and trading and getting new players might only hurt the team chemistry
Hopefully we can get a big man but there isn't many out there. If we landed Dampier, we would be up but the dices failed. Speaking of dices, if McDyess comesback to form, this whole Marbury trade might look bad.
but wally a Knick, for some reason I think it will happen somehow. Marbury always wanted to play in NY, Isiah got him here, Wally wants to play in NY, so like wise Isiah might get him here too. Isiah seems to want players who WANT to play for NY since he feels they might bring out there best games and do what it takes to win.

New York might not have made big moves that propel them higher in the East, but I don't think they've shot themselves in the foot either. True, the payroll is even higher than during Layden's tenure but they weren't exactly close to being under the cap during that time either. Their current roster looks a little better than recent years with fewer logjams.
I know that no improvement is almost as bad as getting worse, but the Knicks should at least be respectable this year. If it's any comfort, it could be much worse.

As a long-time Knick fan, I've learned not to get too enthusiastic, because this team will break your heart every time.
Wed Oct 06, 2004 5:10 pm
I hate Isaiah Thomas as a GM. He's useless, he makes the worst trades and get's crappy players.
Didn't he trade Lampe w/o letting him play 1 game? Didn't Lampe show some promise in Phoenix...he averaged 4.6ppg and 2.1rpg in just 10mpg shooting 49% (and 77% from the stripe). Not bad for an 18yr old.....IMO letting go of Lampe will be a mistake for Thomas, as I'm sure he'll have plenty of those
Wed Oct 06, 2004 8:31 pm
I don't see how getting rid of Kurt Thomas will help, no matter who we get in return (unless it is a proven post player, and I don't mean Reef here, who is too soft IMHO). Kurt is the one player who resembles the better times when the Knicks at least got to the finals (think LJ/Mase from a toughness point of view) - at least he plays hard and does some dirty work. Is Isiah really that high on Mike Sweetney to give away Kurt for another swingman who the Knicks really, really do not need?
Besides, the Blazers aren't gonna trade Reef unless they get a great offer, and the Knicks do not have anyone of interest - too many questions around Allan Houston's health to make him interesting. They'll hang on to Reef, let his contract come off the books next summer and have quite some capspace.
One big problem IMHO is Lenny Wilkins, who just can't get the team to play defense. As much as I don'T like JVG, he was the last coach who could get the team to play D. Still, I'd rather have Lenny run the team than Isiah, but I guess Lenny will be fired sooner than later, and Isiah will take over then.
Anyway, enough of my incoherent ramblings... but just like any other Knicks fan, I feel a long (or rather short as in "if we get to the playoffs, it'll be over in round 1") season coming up. At least Isiah can't trade away next year's first-rounder

That's why i said "arguably".

I was thinking that too...but seeing how happy GP is in Boston...

Billups + RIP, Spree + Cassell, Nash + JJ
Thu Oct 07, 2004 6:52 pm
Lol, nash and joe johnson better than Marbury and Houston? heheh..
Isiah has done a great job imo. This team was in quicksand before he came in as gm. If there wasnt a marbury deal, the knicks would have had to watch mcdyess walk out the door through free agency, so they go Marbury for Lampe and a furture first round pick? And you think thats a bad deal on Isiah and the knicks half? I know they also had to take on penny's contract, but the knicks were well over the cap anyway.
Isiah is a great GM. Not the best, not perfect, but a top 5. If Vin Baker resurects his career, or Tim Thomas wakes up, and Houston is healthy, this knicks team could be dangerous...

That's already a lot of "ifs", don't you think?
I highly doubt Baker will ever get back to form. I mean, how many times has he said over the last 2-3 years that he is back?
Tim Thomas will always be Tim Thomas. As will Allan Houston, with the added problem that he is already getting old, and that he has injury problems. I don't see many more good seasons coming from him, unfortunately.
The team lacks any kind of defensive presence; in fact, the only starter with a somewhat stellar defence (and the only one who really makes an effort) is Kurt Thomas, and Isiah seems to want to trade him no matter what. And I swear, if that trade for Wally World goes through, how the hell is Lenny supposed to distribute the minutes?
Marbury has yet to prove that he is a winner. And while he surprised me in the Olympics by deferring more to the team (except for the one game which he basically won alone, quarterfinals against Spain I believe), he is pretty clueless against zones and holds onto the ball for too long a lot of times.
Marbury, Houston, TT and Crawford all need a lot of shots, which wouldn't be that much of a problem if one of them were an inside player. Unfortunately, neither is, so the team offence will be rather stagnant, with not a lot of variety. Heck, the opponent's C and PF will be able to help guard the perimeter, and that spells trouble.
One funny rumour I read on hoopsworld was that the Kings wanna get rid of Webber and are basically willing to let him go just to get him out of their lockerroom and get rid of his salary; so the author suggested Webber for Penny+Sweetney, which would save the Kings about 50mil in salaries. This would be another short-term fix, but it would definitely improve the team, even though Webber isn't exactly known for his D either...
So until
Thu Oct 07, 2004 9:53 pm
Well, they are a playoff team in the east with marbury, crawfor and penny and kurt thomas. Vin Baker is a huge if, as is tim thomas. Houston isnt a big if imo. But they can go from being a 1st round and out team to a team worthy of putting up a great fight against a contender (like miami last season) if baker, tim thomas and houston all come along for the party.
Thu Oct 07, 2004 11:23 pm
I think they will have a decent season and being in the east they possbly will be in the playoffs this year.
