I'd give more credit to players like Sam Perkins and Detlef Schrempf, but Green was firing away from three for a few years there. He went back to not taking (or making) a lot of them after the 1996 season, though. The line moving back to its original distance no doubt had something to do with that.

Mailman delivers, drops 35 points to defeat Denver Nuggets 107-105

SALT LAKE

Karl Malone scored 6 of his 35 points in the last 2 minutes of the game including a fadeaway, 4 clutch free throws, 1 assist and 2 offensive rebounds that spelled the difference in defeating the Denver Nuggets 107-105.

"It was definitely a game of different emotions coming from a tough home loss against Lakers, I'm glad we bounced back." Jerry Sloan said.

Malone made 2 free throws with 38.8 seconds left in 4th to give Jazz a 5-point lead, 107-102. Abdul-Rauf, struggling all night, made a good pass to Antonio McDyess for an and 1 to cut the lead to 2 points. Chris Morris misfired a 3 point shot to give Nuggets the chance to send it on overtime or win it with a 3 point shot. There was 17.3 seconds left in the game when McDyess grabbed his 14th rebound, surprisingly Coach Bernie Bickerstaff did not call time out and let his players play. Abdul-Rauf tried driving to the basket but was well guarded by John Stockton, decided to kick it out to Jalen Rose. Rose fired a 3 with 1.7 seconds but was short.

When Coach Bickerstaff was asked why he did not call a time out, "I looked at Mahmoud and he signed he will take over, I gave my player a chance, I like to give his confidence back in the game. I don't regret it. We win and lose as a team" he said.

"This one's on me, I apologize to my team mates and the coaching staff, especially to Antonio, he had a special night." Abdul-Rauf said.

Rookie Antonio McDyess had a career game, finished with 33 points and grabbed 14 boards, almost outplayed Karl Malone.

"I look up to him, he inspired me to play this game, he is consistent every season." McDyess said.

When asked about posterizing John Stockton, "I really did not notice him (Stockton) to be honest, it happened so fast. I know we were down and have to score quickly" McDyess added.

Back up point guard Randy Woods provided quality minutes finished with 15 points shooting perfect from the field 6 out of 6, 3 out of 3 from beyond the arc. "It does not come often to have this kind of opportunity, Mahmoud is a great scorer, he told how pick my spots" Randy said.

McDyess was one of my favourite non-Bulls for a while there. Good effort by the Nuggets to make it a competitive one.

Some interesting stats in the leaders there. MJ is certainly going off. Rodman and Stockton not leading in rebounds and assists respectively is a surprise.

Right you are Andrew. Rodman averaged around 9 boards on his first 5 games with Bulls, I'm sure he'll come around. With Stockton, might revisit Utah Jazz plays and assignment. What I am also concerned with is on the block department, not satisfied with the results, Mutombo, Bradley and Mourning are not even in the top 10.

Yeah that's definitely another anomaly. Brian Williams was solid, but not "leading the league in blocks ahead of those guys" solid.

I might have found some minor gameplay tweaks, hopefully it materializes in their next game, especially 76ers who are still winless.

BOSTON

Penny Hardaway scored 20 points and dished 12 assists.

"He's (Penny) like an eagle where he can see every open team mate when they double him. Then if they don't, he will score, he is such great player." Horace Grant said who finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, with several assists coming from Hardaway.

Boston looked solid in the 1st as they shot 58% on FG and led by 5 points at the end of 1st, Fox and Radja were all over the court

Magic bounced back from a dreadful opening quarter shooting 13% from 3-point area (1/8) and opened the 2nd quarter with an 13-2 run, courtesy of Brian Shaw's 2 3-pointers coming from several offensive rebounds by Koncak and Royal causing Coach Carr to call an early timeout and put back Fox again after 3 minutes of rest. Putting back Fox did not stop the bleeding as Magic outscored them in the 2nd 35-20 and Magic leads by 10 in the 1st half 58-48

"Total team effort, with Shaq being out and able to put up 9 blocks and outrebound our opponent, that's remarkable. Our bench was also fantastic, David (Vaughn) provided quality minutes on defense and offense." Coach Brian Hill said during the post game interview.

Boston was able to cut the lead down to 7 69-62 with 5:33 left in 3rd. Dennis Scott get in and drilled a 3 put it back the lead to double digits.

Dee Brown led the Boston with 31 points and Fox with 19 points.
Orlando will have tough opponents in the next 4 games, Miami (twice), Chicago and Indiana. while Boston will host Utah.

SEATTLE

Sam Perkins had 14 points in the 1st quarter, shot 3/3 from the 3-point area as Seattle Supersonics lead the Vancouver Grizzlies by 13 points in the 1st and never looked back. ""One of those nights, you know?" Seattle's Sam Perkins said. "We played extremely well and they probably played their worst game of the year." Gary Payton has a flu and Coach Karl played him only 22 minutes but had 3 steals and 4 assists. "The guy is a warrior, GP wanted to play more, Hersey said he will take it for now." Hersey Hawkins was aggressive all night as he finished the game with 33 points while Perkins with 27 points.

"We dug ourselves a hole and couldn't get out of it," Greg Anthony said. "We were getting open looks, we just weren't converting even easy ones under the basket. Then, as the game went on, we couldn't even get open." Newly signed free agent Darrick Martin led the Grizzlies with 19 points.

Sonics has a strong start with 5-1 record now while Grizzlies fell to 2-4.
