What makes this mod “sim”? Here are a few of the features that set this project apart from all others:

- Every art file (jerseys, arenas, cyberfaces, accessories, courts, dornas (advertisement at half court), etc is realistic and none will crash game play
- There is no missing art file in the entire project

Every player in every roster has:
- Accurate statistical ratings and tendencies to work with 2k's simulation engine while still providing realistic game play
- Realistic ratings and tendencies that affect game play but not the simulation engine ie dribbling, athletic ratings, post tendencies, etc.
- Realistic physical attributes that decrease after major injuries or as the player gets older
- Accurate play types
- Accurate contracts

- Accurately updated Coaching profiles and playbooks

- Draft classes that have realistic player information for every player

- A few slider sets designed to be a base for realistic game play

I love playing with the best teams in history against the other best teams in history...
I made some modifications to the Elite Roster for myself. Mostly editing Touch Tendency for everone, so the "stars" get more plays called for them and the role players fewer.
I also looked through players' Play Types and adjusted them according to what the team actually ran most of the time. Steph Curry now has P&R Handler at the bottom of the list after the movement oriented ones (3pt/Mid/Cut) because the Warriors ran him off the ball more than just letting him create off the dribble. Or Lebron was often used as the P&R screener in Miami & Cleveland. The Lakers often ran P&R with Fisher handling and Kobe screening, for example in the 2010 finals vs the Celtics. Nash & Amare often received the ball on the move for he D'Antoni Suns, instead of just P&R-ing everytime in the half-court. Stuff like that.

I view Play Types & Touches as "how does the team create an opportunity" rather than "who is shooting which kinda shot". JR Smith, Love & Frye got a lot of threes because their defenders had to help on Lebron's drives, not because they came off pin-down screens all the time like Allen/Miller/Korver (maybe JR did a bit...) and I like my game to work the same way.

As an example, 4 teams I know decently well:

The 07 Suns ran:
- high or side P&R with Nash & Amare most of the time
- P&R Nash & Marion
- Pick&Pop Nash & Thomas
- Diaw post-up High/Low
- Barbosa Iso or P&R
- Amare off screens for mid-range J or catch-and-drive
- Bell off screens for mid J (often 1st play of the game)
- Amare post up (face up and drive or overpower at the rim)
- rarely Marion Iso or post-up

08 Celtics:
- Pick&Pop with Rondo/Pierce & Garnett
- Allen off screens for 3
- Garnett Low Post

- various stuff for Pierce: Iso, P&R, high post
- House off screens for 3

11 Mavs:
- Dirk high post
- Pick&Pop with Terry/Barea & Dirk

- Dirk off screens for mid-range J or cut to basket
- P&R with guard & Chandler/Marion
- Marion post up

15 Warriors:
- Curry/Klay off screens for 3
- P&R Curry & Dray

- Pick&Pop with Speights
- Livingston Iso or high post (resulting in mid range J over defender)
- maybe sometimes Barnes Iso, Clark off screens or Barbosa P&R

I try to get them to run that stuff and not anything else. I want teams to play to their strengths. I don't want Kidd to run P&Rs on the 11 Mavs or Love to post up much for the 17 Cavs.

I also tinkered with positions & OVR ratings a bit to force the cpu into "real" rotations whenever possible (in season mode), like '17 Cavs always playing 4- or 5-out etc.
I edited the spot-up tendencies to make sure that shooting bigs will spot up beyond the arc and space the floor (wasn't done for all stretch 4s/5s before). Dirk will still get the ball in the mid-range or high post if he has a play called for him (which will be often...).
Some changes to attributes were also done, mostly defensive stuff like Curry/Westbrook/Harden/Amare & others being nerfed defensively. It's all my personal opinion but the whole thing was for myself and I tried not to do it too often.

Then the controversial stuff. Because the game is hardcoded to 2013 rules, the older teams (60s/70s) can't really play like theyy did back then, so I gave renowned shooters like West/McGlocklin/Lucas/Brown etc. 3-point range in terms of attributes, shooting tendency and spot-up tendency. I wanted those teams to be competitive. Most changes have been made to teams from 1995+ as I simply know more about them.

So in sum, changes were made to:
- touch tendency
- play types
- spot-up tendency
- 3pt tendency
- position/ovr
- DefAw/DEF & some OffAw/PostOff/PostD/Speed/Quick/Str
- some player heights


I also took the AllTime80sroster as a base and made a "fantasy draft" roster, so one can draft lineups like Nash/Klay/Eddie Jones/Draymond/Garnett or Magic/Christie/Iguodala/Bird/Gobert and play against similar lineups. I made all the same changes to players as in the Elite Roster, so old players are dangerous from three, shooting bigs stretch the floor, creators get plays called for them and iso-loving ball hogs don't get the ball as often if they only create for themselves (Gervin/Melo/King/Moses etc.). Role players don't ever get plays called for them basically.


Those two rosters are always work in progress but if Sko & Slimm don't mind I'd be happy to share them.


Would you mind waiting and collaborating with me on this very idea when I release the next retro updates? I've been working for the last 2 months on by far the biggest retro update this mod has ever seen. I'd love to talk with you about the ideas you are sharing, but I also don't want to duplicate work.

Right now slimm is working on some kind of biggest update since 2013. First I rly want to finish End of the season (EOS) rosters for 2k14. I rly want to make much better draft classes, i rly want to make more retro rosters, i still want to update current roster....its rly not about money ( ofc it makes me some kind of motivated even if its not a big $) ITS ALL ABOUT DAMN TIME. I think slimm will agree, we are rly focused to make 2k13 and 2k14 perfect or close to perfect bball game, slimm spend last two months on CRAZY update ( details soon probably, i think you guys wont believe anyway what he did), in next months i will try to polish other stuff for retro. I hope i will find more time for 2k13 and EOS 2k13 rosters...and yes, 2k13 is much better game than 2k14.

and yes, 2k13 is way better game than 2k14... i recently dig up my 2k12 copy and even 2k12 is better than 2k14 (in last two years, since all eyez were on 2k14, i forgot how good 2k13 was... and older titles as well).

OK, fellas. I've completed the retro edits for 1985-1999 rosters and I'm in the process of pasting them now. Here is a list of most everything that has been overhauled and my methodology to the edits. Honestly, I've changed so many formulas and updated so much that I'm sure I'm missing something. This is the single-biggest update ever to this mod and no other update to this mod even comes close. As soon as I'm done pasting everything, I'll send to Sko and he can release.

- Names were corrected
- Primary and secondary positions were updated based on information from basketball-reference.com
- Height and Weight was checked and updated
- Play initiator was updated based on position type and a touches tendency threshhold
- Go to 3pt was updated based on 3pt tendency thresshold
- Play types were updated based on a combination of primary/secondary position, team strategy, pass rating, and shot location tendencies.
- 3pt shot ratings are season-specific but were also scaled to normalize ratings for players to eliminate statistical outliers. I also gave players who didn't shoot 3's because of the era to have some ability to do so but kept their 3pt shot tendency season-specific.
- I calculated inside, close, and mid range shot ratings by using a formula that kept FG% accurate and accounted for position type and player skill level.
- Dunk, Standing Dunk, Vertical rating, and dunk tendency are all correlated now and are based off height, weight, age, athleticism of the player, and approximately how high the player's head was able to be in relation to the rim on layups/dunks. This makes a MASSIVE difference in realism.
- Offensive and Defensive ratings were calculated with formulas then adjusted by player to eliminate exaggerated influences to those ratings based on team. For example, Ray Allen statistically calculated to somewhere in the 60's to low 70's for defensive awareness during the course of his career but that rating spiked to the 90's when he went to the Celtics and Heat. He was not a shutdown defender by any stretch, so regardless of what team he was on, his rating will be appropriate for him. Again, this was done for all players in the mod.
- Shot in traffic, shot off dribble, dribbling ratings, on ball defense, offensive and defensive low post ratings, and consistency rating are all based off of offensive/defensive ratings and position-specific scales.
- All statistical ratings are season-specific but were normalized by player to eliminate statistical outliers.
- Signature skills were removed to enhance realism.
- Take shot and 3pt tendency are season-specific but normalized by player to eliminate statistical outliers.
- Inside, Close, and mid range shot tendency were calculated similarly to shot ratings mentioned above.
- Putback, Drive the lane, pull up, Triple threat, triple threat shot, no triple threat, hop layup, spin layup, runner, fadeaway shot, stepback shot, and spin shot were calculated based off shot tendencies and player type. Eurostep was lowered drastically except for European players. This is a MASSIVE addition to gameplay and realism.
- Pre-dribble and dribbling tendencies were updated based on ball handling ratings, position, and also personalized for select players.
- Draw foul tendency is season-specific.
- FOR 2K13 ONLY - All freelance tendencies were updated based on position, player style, touches tendency, and era.
- All post tendencies were updated based on player style, position, and low post rating.
- PNR tendency and Post up tendency formulas were revised.
- Coaching profile formulas were updated to display variety across all eras from 1960 to current.

Hello, skoadam, do you know which files in 2k14 is compatible with 2k13?If I have spare time, I can transfer 2k14 roster to 2k13. As far as I know, cf files are compatible.

i just hope @sko would bring 2k13 mod and this better game in the same state (or at least close to same) with 2k14 mod (worse game).

not sure which roster you want to transfer to 2k13 but arenas, courts, jerseys, cfs,portraits,logos, dornas are compatible.

- Dunk, Standing Dunk, Vertical rating, and dunk tendency are all correlated now and are based off height, weight, age, athleticism of the player, and approximately how high the player's head was able to be in relation to the rim on layups/dunks. This makes a MASSIVE difference in realism.
- Offensive and Defensive ratings were calculated with formulas then adjusted by player to eliminate exaggerated influences to those ratings based on team. For example, Ray Allen statistically calculated to somewhere in the 60's to low 70's for defensive awareness during the course of his career but that rating spiked to the 90's when he went to the Celtics and Heat. He was not a shutdown defender by any stretch, so regardless of what team he was on, his rating will be appropriate for him. Again, this was done for all players in the mod.
- Shot in traffic, shot off dribble, dribbling ratings, on ball defense, offensive and defensive low post ratings, and consistency rating are all based off of offensive/defensive ratings and position-specific scales.
- All statistical ratings are season-specific but were normalized by player to eliminate statistical outliers.
- Signature skills were removed to enhance realism.
- Take shot and 3pt tendency are season-specific but normalized by player to eliminate statistical outliers.
- Inside, Close, and mid range shot tendency were calculated similarly to shot ratings mentioned above.
- Putback, Drive the lane, pull up, Triple threat, triple threat shot, no triple threat, hop layup, spin layup, runner, fadeaway shot, stepback shot, and spin shot were calculated based off shot tendencies and player type. Eurostep was lowered drastically except for European players. This is a MASSIVE addition to gameplay and realism.
- Pre-dribble and dribbling tendencies were updated based on ball handling ratings, position, and also personalized for select players.
- Draw foul tendency is season-specific.
- FOR 2K13 ONLY - All freelance tendencies were updated based on position, player style, touches tendency, and era.
- All post tendencies were updated based on player style, position, and low post rating.
- PNR tendency and Post up tendency formulas were revised.
- Coaching profile formulas were updated to display variety across all eras from 1960 to current.


this is more than massive, it blows you away just when you read it :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

i just hope @sko would bring 2k13 mod and this better game in the same state (or at least close to same) with 2k14 mod (worse game).


All of these changes will be added to all 2k13 rosters, also.

What makes this mod “sim”? Here are a few of the features that set this project apart from all others:

- Every art file (jerseys, arenas, cyberfaces, accessories, courts, dornas (advertisement at half court), etc is realistic and none will crash game play
- There is no missing art file in the entire project

Every player in every roster has:
- Accurate statistical ratings and tendencies to work with 2k's simulation engine while still providing realistic game play
- Realistic ratings and tendencies that affect game play but not the simulation engine ie dribbling, athletic ratings, post tendencies, etc.
- Realistic physical attributes that decrease after major injuries or as the player gets older
- Accurate play types
- Accurate contracts

- Accurately updated Coaching profiles and playbooks

- Draft classes that have realistic player information for every player

- A few slider sets designed to be a base for realistic game play

you discovered another two issues - black spots on both lakers' players.

i hope @sko will tune up 2013 retro rosters, i see they haven't been touched more than 2 years....

Maybe its my fault, because i told you that k14 jeseys are compatible with 2k13. Well files are compatible, game wont crash, texture will be visable etc. But if jerseys is not created to be compatible with k13 white square will show up on shorts. This is is why i suggest to use jerseys from URB packages. Pepis is doin great job because all or almost all his jerseys are good here and there. To fix your issue simply paste files from retro jerseys part 1 and 2 and 2k13 jerseys fix part. In last part i included files which were made only for 2k13 and dont have compatible versions with both games. Hope its all clear now.

bro, that's my problem.that cf was transfered from 2k12 by me

ok, just wondering because we are tryin to find cfs with black spot issues. I checked Bynum and Artest from my packages, both looks ok, free from issues.

my main concern, gameplay wise, is are we finally going to get what we had with previous 2k titles in terms of team tendencies? for example, i want to see in 90s rockets or jazz or early 2000s lakers teams making actions for olajuwon, malone, shaq... not to see matt maloney and elie, or hornacek and russel, or fisher and fox as go to guys.

this issue is mostly present in 2k14, which has totally broken gameplay, but it is still visible in 2k13 as well, comparing to 2k12, 2k11 and 2k10.

With the updates to the touches tendencies and play types, you should see a pretty big difference.
