2019 WCF: (1) Golden State vs. (3) Portland

Postby Lamrock on Mon May 13, 2019 11:27 am

Can't believe Portland is in the conference finals. There have been some promising seasons but with Nurkic out, this season was supposed to be written off, not the best opportunity to make the finals in decades.

Even with KD's status unclear, the Warriors have to be favored in this series. They are the champs for a reason, and took care of business against the Rockets. KD might make them unbeatable, but this is still an incredible team without him.

My brain says Warriors in 5, but my heart says Blazers in 6. Either way, get well soon Rodney Hood!

Warriors in 5, but I'd love to see the Blazers get through. With Nuggets/Raptors (a guaranteed first time champion either way) no longer possible, I also like the idea of Blazers/Bucks: a clash of the two teams that both won their first and only title in the 70s, but have had moments of coming respectably close in the decades since (more so the Blazers).

But, these are the Warriors. Even if Durant's not available at the beginning of the series, I imagine he'll be back by the end, and they have enough weapons to win those early battles without him. I'd love to be wrong, though.

I've been riding the Blazers since the playoffs started and haven't backed down up to this point. Portland in 7, similar to how the Denver series went with both teams winning an away game.

Warriors in 5, regardless if they have KD or not.

Curry will win finals MVP this year IMO.

Felt like a practice game for the Warriors or are the Blazers just playing shit brand of basketball? The Rockets werent fun to watch, sure. Watch this series. Need I say more?

Outclassed is what it is. The Warriors indeed reminds me of 90s Bulls if not more. Minus the KD, they are still legendary. Perhaps Kawhi needs to join the Bucks, so they actually might have a legit shot against them.

neither was his game 7 against the nuggets. hope he's not injured.... i really hope Portland can make a series of this. perhaps they are adopting the giannis plan "you can go down 0-1 and still be fine"

wouldn't be surprised if GSW gift wrapped one or two to the blazers after cruising to an easy win.

curry is ridiculous. ties his own 3pt record and doing behind the back passes in traffic wth lol

Haven't seen a game 1 beat down like this since the Bucks/Celtics series...

That was a weird game because the Warriors seemed to be in control the whole game, but Portland managed to stay within striking distance until the fourth quarter despite a lot of silly mistakes and easy shots missed. The main reason for that is probably the foul disparity, which you can draw your own conclusions about, but it was nonetheless encouraging to see them compete with how poorly they played.

It's hard to be too optimistic about these problems being fixed in game two though. The defense on Steph should be better next game, but he's Steph Curry so it might not even matter. Moe Harkless and Al-Farouq Aminu are mediocre shooters yet they're heavily relied upon. Damian Lillard was incredible against OKC but has only had a couple good games since then. Zach Collins seems like the much better option at center in this series, but he's foul prone and out of his element offensively.

At least we have Rodney Hood!

It was like a practice game for the blazers as it sounded like they hadn't had any practice time since game 7.

I think they will be fine after they've seen how bad that pick and roll strategy was. They made adjustments after game 1 in Denver too. They need more ball pressure and to at least hedge on pick and rolls

Harkless played really well, but I think inserting Hood into the starting lineup for Aminu might be necessary just to keep up with the warriors, but having Green guarding him might not be an ideal matchup

Blazers had that one, and it got away from them. Great play by the Warriors to snatch it back, trapping Lillard threw Portland's offense into complete disarray time and time again down the stretch.

Blazers seem to have it, but the Warriors got way too many easy baskets down the stretch. Layups, dunks, and Steph kicking his leg out for 3

Sorrow and despair. Feelings you got as a Blazers fan tonight.

You play a near perfect ball game against goliath yet one bad stretch costs you a game. The Warriors on the other hand, fucks up all night still gets away with a W. Funtastic...

That leap into the air where he did the splits NBA Jam style (but didn't get the call) was quite impressive.

Billy Donovan is a moron and the Nuggets don't exactly play defense yet I'm still surprised that none of those two teams bothered to copy what the Pelicans did in containing Lillard, the Warriors do now and Lillard is stinking it up again.

Blazers offers zero challenge to the Warriors.

While I think the Warriors arent unbeatable team, I dont think the Blazers could do it even at their absolute best. I am not even sure any other team than Rockets in this league has somewhat of a legit chance. I think even if East has powered up, is still amateur shit compared to Warriors ball. Perhaps I am still under selling the fear the Deer. We shall see soon.
