[Tutorial] Edit Generic/Shared Items textures, make them unique

Postby sticky-fingers on Sun May 12, 2019 7:35 pm

Hi guys

I think i've made an interesting discover about generic/shared textures ... to make them unique !

So for illustrate my comment, i will talk about generic stadium ads for current arenas which contains these ads : beat / footlocker / reeses's puff, spalding, statefarm, tissot, new era
but it should work for any shared/generic textures.

So, this generic ads file is in sXXX.iff (s000.iff = 76ers arena, 001 for Bucks etc...)
There's a file named ad_sheet_final.d1fe5c55d66ef31c.dds, this file should contain the ads but its size = 0 (there are a lot of files at 0kb that we can edit in the same way).

So if you look for this file in NBA2K Explorer, you can find it into 0C archive, so ive extracted it and i've got a dds file 136ko
But this file cant be open with an image editor.

So i tried to unzip it : it works and then i've got a new file ad_sheet_final.d1fe5c55d66ef31c, same name, without .dds extension and a bigger size 683k.
I add the .dds extension and and this is THE file i wanted and now i can edit it :

After editing and saving the file, i just copy it into sXXX.iff and then i have a unique dornas texture for one arena

From my tests, this works for ALL the generic/shared items, jumbotron, backboards etc... Repeat this on each arena, and no more generic textures :D

Here's an example on 2K17 but it works as well on 2K19 :

ahhh YES THANK YOU! You solved the new 2K19 shared folder mystery!

I don't know why I never had success with trying something like that before guess I gave up too quickly

Ok so the shared files from before were easily extracted out with the 2Kexplorer in 17 and 18 but in 19 the explorer wasn't working the same with the files and so like they must have been zipped all together and then zipped or archived another way additionally into the 0C archive

I think a good amount of us knew how to use the shared files but this year going to find them in 0C wasn't successful but now we can obtain the shared files following your instructions

Basically

1. Find file you want from 0C or 0D that starts "shared/" (they are probably all dds so looking for shared/*.dds)
2. Right click then Export Archive
3. You will have a *.dds file but treat it like a zip because it is still compressed so unzip/decompress it
4. Your unzipped file lost the file extension it had so just add it back by adding .dds to the end of the file name
