Official Patch Notes & Discussion (Latest Patch: 1.25)

Talk about NBA Live 19 here.

Fans, not fanboys; critics, not haters. That's the motto we have around here, but it seems that many users on Reddit aren't adhering to that. People talk about how forums are outdated, but platforms like Reddit and Twitter have proven to be absolutely toxic when it comes to discussing video games. Well, anything really, but in the context of our hobby, I see a lot of stuff like that.

This is almost unplayable. It feels like the CPU and even opponents online make layups at a higher rate than myself offline or hell even my teammates online too. Feels like they are trying to artificially keep FG% down.

I wouldn't mind it as much if it were fair and even across-the-board but it doesn't seem like it

At this point if you're not a 3 point shooter or dunking archetype, you'll have trouble doing anything online

Feels like this is a classic case of not doing what they feel is right, but appeasing the crowd of whiners (the wrong crowd), and in the grand scheme of things I guarantee they were the smaller crowd.

This happened with the tennis game where I was communicating with the devs. They did what they should have (curved a glaring issue) but people complained that the game was too hard after the update, so they literally reverted back to what it was before the update. The people that were complaining were a much smaller number it seemed than the people who enjoyed the game after the needed update.

That's the problem with complaints. They often sound a lot louder, because the people who are content don't feel compelled to speak up.

We need to have EA revert the inside game to how it was before this patch. The new contested shot penalty is fine, and I love the fact that they got rid of one of the most game breaking exploits (hand-off cheese), but they broke a basic fundamental of basketball. I literally had to fire up the demo version just so I could have a working inside game. This should definitely be covered in videos, examples, etc. Not even college or G-League players miss this many layups/post shots.

[Q] wrote:At this point if you're not a 3 point shooter or dunking archetype, you'll have trouble doing anything online

Exactly, if you're not a player who can shoot threes, you're basically screwed. Blocking and the AI stealing is too frequent on the higher difficulties, but let's nerf the inside game to where it makes bigs look incompetent, and if you can't shoot or dunk, you're basically a liability.

I hope that the people who complained understand that this will lead the game into self-destruction. Extremely frustrated at how one update completely ruins the experience.

It's obvious that the same people who insist on spending money to create a great player immediately also will not want to take the time to learn how to actually play. Instant gratification generation. They want to just jump into a game that's easy for them.

Man it's so hard to hit jumpers now. Almost as bad as last year. First off, your ability to hold up on right stick and contest a shot isn't easy and lags a bit if it does it at all. Second, the CPU closes out to open shooters so fast and always get the contest, taking away the green and any hope of you hitting the shot. I've noticed I've had way less opportunities for greens this year, and I've been having trouble hitting the top of the meter with or without green. Hitting the top with no green still misses most of the time. The changes are just killing this game for me.

The perils of making adjustments based on online play. It's been a big issue in 2K as well, and to be fair, probably a difficult balance to maintain. Hopefully it can be corrected though.

This tweet shows how contested shots shouldn't be a problem. These are kids playing on a blacktop, and they're capable of hitting contested shots. Now imagine the best players in the world missing constantly from just simply putting a hand up.

Simple minded tweets like these (the same person who praised the new layup contesting), are what contribute to the breaking of the game.

Some place too much blame on the game, others place too much blame on the gamers. Feedback gets muddied as a result.

Yeah you got dudes hitting shots with the best defenders in the world shooting their hand right into the face. There's a reason why they say great offense will always beat great defense

And I like that comment about flicking the right stick up but nothing happening. They need to move that to a new button like circle. Steal and block are right next to each other, why would I leave my thumb on the stick for defense? I have to take my thumb off the face buttons and triangle to get to the stick and take the time to hold the stick up and have it register in game but by then it's too late

It's so easy to break ankles on step backs still... they have to change that. I made defender fall in like 6 or 7 step backs in 6 minute quarters.

Also, the input lag feels worse on the game now than it did before. When you hit a button on the controller, it doesn't immediately happen on screen.

People said they were having trouble scoring in the post, but I really didn't notice a difference.

This game really needs a camera relative controls option.

I get my ankles broken way too many times on step backs. Is there a slider to turn that down?

Same here, and I havn't been able to fix it.

On well over 50% of the step backs, the defenders ankles get broken.

Going to try the game later today. Based on what I've read, Drexler STILL doesn't have a signature shot, and they need to give Larry Bird another jumpshot for his younger years. The current one in the game fits the older Larry better.

Huge patch with huge additions that many fans have been asking for: franchise player editing and shoot around on your court. Plus a ton of new commentary. They even edited Lonzos shot which has changed since last year. Nice touch. I can't believe the amount of updates they've made already and the season hasn't even started yet and the game is barely a month old. I probably am not enjoying the game as much as last year, but the updates are impressive and I could see it becoming more fun to play in the future

An issue that I've noticed and subsequently reported to the dev team is that when I enter the One Court Shootaround, I have a completely different player; a different face (though still with the hair and facial hair I chose), different attributes and play style, and from the looks of things, slightly taller. When I exit back to The One hub, everything is fine, but it looks like there is an issue with the player data that loads into the shootaround. Hopefully they can push through a hotfix in short order.

Postby RayRay_953 on Wed Oct 10, 2018 2:02 pm

The update actually introduced quite a bit of issues, so I'll address some that I've personally encountered:

Using a custom roster in Play Now will either crash the game when loading, or if the game loads, every team plays at the Phillips Arena

Sound effects when unlocking skill points, advancing in hype, and unlocking crates disappeared; nothing plays at all.

As you mentioned, the player you use in The One shootaround is not the correct player you chose. The tall player preview glitch has been present since the demo of the game when previewing new gear, so that's probably what causes the height differences.

Occasionally when participating in LIVE Events, you could face a glitched team of Embiid and four Westbrooks without any names, shirts, and all have a 0 overall rating. The game will proceed to crash upon loading up a game, or later on over time.

I'm going to dive into the post-patch gameplay tonight for the first time.

Are you guys noticing an overall improvement in gameplay? Or have the patches just caused more issues?

And, are ankle breakers still happening all the time on step backs?

Step back ankle breakers are still present, but compared to before, it happens somewhat less.

Post game either works for me or it doesn't. One game I can dominate inside the post with my big men, but in another they will brick lots of post hooks.

The AI gets an insane amount of foul calls on the harder difficulties to the point where it becomes outright unfair. Before the past two patches, I would get a realistic amount of fouls, but now even raising an arm to contest a shot can sometimes yield a foul call. I managed to get four fouls within 2 minutes in a LUT gauntlet game, and all of them involved the AI driving to the hoop.

An additional thing I noticed was that while the dunking has been fixed in LUT, some of the cards got nerfed in attributes as a result of one of the recent updates. 79 OVR Wilkins had a 90 finishing rating, but that was nerfed to 89. 78 OVR Spud Webb originally had an 89 finishing rating, and now it's an 81.

If you set custom rosters to default before updates you wont encounter these issues with custom rosters.

Layups and dunks got nerfed to holy hell. I got so mad playing gauntlet LUT on all-star level. Every safe pass I throw gets intercepted. Every layup and inside shot rims out. Hell, I hit gold DeAndre Jordan on a cut and his wide open dunk rimmed out.

Meanwhile, CPU gets more foul calls, never misses layups. Hits contested and ankle breaker step back 3s with ease. I even maxed out the sliders in problem areas because I was so mad and it still didn't help so I rage quit

I really hope the whole season won't be like this where someone complains online about something, they nerf it and make the game unplayable and then have to rebalance it on the next patch
